We love our house. It really is about location, location, location! Super private, and a gorgeous sand path that leads to our private sandy bay beach.
The rooms were clean and comfy. The house was beautiful and sat on a beautiful piece of property. Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the outdoors at all. The mosquito situation was the worst any of us have ever experienced. Day or night you could not step outside without being literally attacked by mosquitos. This shouldn't have surprised us since there is a large pond on the property. The beach was a nice short walk from the house but was also full of mosquitos as well as a ton of sea weed so we weren't able to enjoy it. We ended up spending the whole weekend indoors. The saving grace that weekend was the cute play room for our children otherwise I think we may have all given up and gone home. While I completely understand that the owner has no control of mosquitos or sea weed I did want other renters to be aware because we were so disappointed. I also understand that this may not be a year round occurrence - it could have just been a bad time of year for sea weed and mosquitos.
This is clearly a house that is used by the owners as a vacation and storage house--not really with renters in mind. The bedroom spaces could be configured to be more renter-friendly. For example, there is no closet space available in the master bedroom. Both closets are locked. The "4th bedroom" has no actual bed, no closet and no window coverings. The closets that are available in the other rooms are filled with clothes and there aren't many free hangers. The door handle for the bathroom in the master bedroom needed to be tightened because it was spinning--had to find an allen wrench in the garage. There was no iron or ironing board. The kitchen had food in the refrigerator and cupboards. The area behind the microwave where the switch for the fan is located is greasy.
My girlfriends and I stayed at Cabin 5 in Bellport for a long weekend and couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience. We found the property to be just as advertised. In fact, even better than the photos. The house was super-clean and cozy, and filled with everything you could possibly need for a serene summer getaway. Bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. Closets were well-stocked with extra pillows, linens and beach towels. Kitchen had all the essentials for cooking/grilling. We grilled and enjoyed many meals out on the deck, lounged on the hammock and soaked up the sun on our own private beach.
The location couldn’t have been better -- it was a five-minute drive to the quaint town of Bellport or a 10-minute drive to downtown Patchogue where we found a variety of dining and shopping.
The owner, Nathaniel, was great, very responsive. When we first arrived we had some trouble figuring out how to program the air conditioner. I sent him a text and he replied within minutes with instructions. (The house has two separate cooling zones, which was really nice considering it was 90 degrees outside our entire stay.)
The beach area was a little rocky and not great for swimming, but perfect for sunbathing and kayaking. (There’s a nice kayak on the property for guests to use.) We enjoyed the water views from the balcony off the master bedroom where we had our coffee in the morning.
If we ever return to the Fire Island area, we will definitely rent this house again.
This house was everything it says in the photos and description, and more! A private retreat in the woods, teaming with birds, rabbits, and deer and a path down to the beach on the Great South Bay. The kitchen was huge and fully equipped (event had a pot large enough to cook lobster) which was great for our team to share family style meals, enough bedrooms and bathrooms for 6 adults to live comfortably for a week.
The location was perfect for us since it was a 15-20 minute drive to the Sayville Yacht Club, and not far from restaurants, grocery stores, Costco, etc.
We rented this lovely Bellport house for 3 long weekends this past summer, and it was the perfect family friendly getaway. The house itself was just what we needed - plenty of space indoor and out to host family and friends, a playroom full toys, a well equipped kitchen perfect for cooking (and a large deck with a grill), and best of all, private access to the bay beach. It's just a couple of minutes away from Bellport Village, which is an adorable town with a few shops and restaurants, but for the most part we stayed in and enjoyed our time at the house. It's nice and secluded as well, making it quite private and perfect for relaxing. Lastly, the owner Nat was very easy to work with and always accessible in case we had any questions.
We celebrated our son's wedding in Bellport and felt extremely lucky to have Nat's stylish home to share with family and friends. We spent most of the weekend entertaining on the deck and lawn as well as several evening beach get togethers. Nat's elegant home and private yard/beach was delightful for all of us. The groomsman dressed at the house where we took pictures of these crazy guys at the beach. So memorable, relaxing and fun. I wish we could do it all over again!
Of course Nat was very accessible by email and phone. He gave us clear instructions about the house and grounds. This was a five star plus experience! Thank you again Nat.
Bellport is a small, quaint, beautiful little village..use your private bay beach behind the house, or take the Bellport ferry to Fire Island ocean beach. Relax on the large outdoor deck on the new furniture, cook on the outdoor grill, play bocce in the spacious yard, relax in the hammock...
