From the moment you enter the 1/2 acre property, a sense of tropical wonder takes hold of you. Orchids grow off of the many tall palm trees that follow the winding path of the paved driveway. Exotic pink palms, blooming plumeria, and hibiscus with multi-colored gigantic flowers await, with huge Norfolk pines towering over this beautifully landscaped property.
At the front entrance to the home are koa and mango wood double doors which lead to a 1500sq foot outdoor centre courtyard, made of wood decking.
The deck is surrounded by the home on 3 sides, leaving one side open to view the palms and trees on the neighbors property, which has no home on it, and therefore complete privacy. A sliding glass door opens from each of the three main floor bedrooms onto this tropical paradise, with several large potted plants and trees. One of these bedrooms has its own area separate from the rest of the house, with its own full bathroom. Every bedroom also has large windows with custom louver window coverings, Martha Stewart bedding, and ceiling fans. And yes, the courtyard does boast a new 6 person 110 jet hot tub to relax even the most uptight one in the group. The private entrance to each bedroom off the courtyard gives a 'hotel-like' feel, perfect for a couples holiday retreat, or for a family with kids.
The ocean front view is breath taking. You cannot be closer to feel the raw power and energy of the bluest ocean, surrounded by smooth black lava cliffs. On this property, the lava has natural ledges allowing you to walk down to near the water's edge, as the waves roll and crash onto the rocky cliffs.
Try fishing off shore, explore the lava coastlines , or just sit on the natural lava rock chairs and watch the turtles right in front of you everyday, as they feed and tumble in the rolling waves. (If you catch one of the numerous whales that come by regularly in season, it's catch and release only!) Dolphins can also be seen throughout the year.
The ocean view is prevalent in almost every room in the house. The great room has full wall glass windows and sliding glass doors on both sides, allowing you to see the ocean view from the courtyard as you look through the great room.
The kitchen is very large, with koa wood cabinets with granite counter tops, and a large center island. The dining table seats 8 easily, and both the kitchen and dining area have spectacular ocean front views, making time in the kitchen actually a pleasure.
The master bedroom has perhaps the best views of all, with a private balcony and sitting area surrounded by windows and three glass sliding doors. If the sounds of the ocean don't lull you into the best sleep of your life, then you really do need a vacation!
Morning sunrise is worth getting up for, especially when Kona coffee is waiting for you. Evening always cools off nicely, allowing you to sleep comfortably as you hear the waves and feel the ocean breeze.
The Hilo side of the Big Island offers the most natural beauty, the REAL HAWAII, from water falls and rainforests, to active volcanoes, ocean tidal pools, natural hot springs, great restaurants in Pahoa hippy town, and much more, all just a short drive away.
This home will give you the privacy you expect, the excitement of the Pacific Ocean in the raw, and a close up view of the ocean's amazing creatures.
Do not pass by this incredible vacation home opportunity!
DARRYL AND DEE BURKE
DARRYL AND DEANNE BURKE purchased this house in 2014
The place was beautiful. It accommodated our needs for 5 adults. Everyone had their privacy. The view is spectacular. We enjoyed all the amenities. Owners quick to respond to our questions. Marsha Ferracane
This home has all the comforts you'd hope for. The crashing waves are spectacular. The coconuts lying around are great. We enjoyed the hot tub and laundry facilities. This is really a beautiful place to stay. Thank you!
The home was incredible. I could have stayed there forever. We had a small child (2 yr. old) that had to be watched closely due to the close proximity of the ocean. But, that is also what made the stay awesome was the view, the sound of the waves crashing in, and the local "smell" of the flowers and plants.
The house was beautifully decorated and had a master bedroom upstairs that was delightful. The courtyard had a hot tube which was enjoyed some evenings. The grill was also in this area, but it was non-functional at the time we were there (my husband said it was not together and would take time to put it together) so we just cooked in the kitchen. The kitchen was nicely laid out and had all the dishes, pots, etc...everything needed. (however the knives need sharpening). Many people could help with the cooking simultaneously.
The living room had a large U-shaped couch and was perfect for all of us to sit together and talk. The dining table was also great for 8 of us. There were plates, utensils, glasses, etc. and a coffee maker. We were able to cool the house down by opening the sliding doors (screens still closed) and the master bedroom also cooled nicely. The other bedrooms were difficult to cool off and a fan for each might help. The sound of the ocean was constant and I loved it, but others said that the noise of the ocean and frogs made it hard to sleep. There was no window covering to block out the morning light, so we woke early...one way to get an early start. The bedroom against the garage and next to the laundry room smelled musty or damp according to the family that slept there (perhaps it needs some air fresher). There was plenty of clean beach and regular towels. Bed were freshly made.
The house clean and well maintained. The patio was lovely to sit on, but we had a two year old and although Dee tried to provide a child gate the first was too narrow for the opening and the second needed to be screwed on so couldn't be put up by us. We appreciated her effort to supply one. But I really feel that with that opening to the ocean side, the opening off the courtyard and the stairs up to the master bedroom, it is not a house to be recommend for very young children. Older children would work out fine as long as they understood not to go by the ocean without an adult. There is a small yard and a tree with a hammock to enjoy also.
It was a great location. A grocery store was a short drive. It was close to the Lava Tree Park and the Kapho tide pools. Not too far to the National Volcanic Park, and the falls and Botanical gardens were a nice all day outing for the family which we enjoyed. We didn't have enough time to see everything.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends. Dee responded quickly to any needs.
I'm not sure there are enough expressive words to describe this property, so let me say this......Awesome, Amazing, Spectacular, Breathtaking, Peaceful, Serene, Comfortable - I know there are more......
We rented this property after plans at another fell thru weeks before my daughter's wedding. Working with the owner was part of what made this such an amazing experience. She was available and responsive (even from a 5 hour time difference). The pride of ownership is evident everywhere on this property. It IS surrounded by jungle like plants and they bring their own players to the party - bring/use what ever mosquito repellent you are comfortable with - especially in the lower lawn area (as I call it). This property is perfect for those who have trouble walking. For my 82 yr old mother and myself (with back issues) we could not have asked for anything better! We did have to buy a few extra fans while there - we had some very hot days upon arrival, but they went to family who live in Hilo, and he was happy to accept them.
IF there were any negatives it had to do with spotty internet. It worked great for a couple of days, then we had issues after a power outage, but so did many in the neighborhood......Island life - we needed to unplug anyway!
I highly recommend checking the cupboards before shopping as people leave unused - sometimes brand new food stuffs in the cabinets and fridge (so we did too). It will save on buying things that are already there for community use. Beautiful double door fridge (now I want one) that made it so easy to put food in and take it out. Great selection of pots n pans, cutlery and dishes. Lots of knives, but they could use sharpening - per my daughter. I wouldn't know, as I didn't have to cook while I was there!
Now for the best part...There are 2 large decks - one off the master bedroom (and I DO mean master) I could only manage the stairs once, but my daughter told me that watching the ocean while showering was decadent! From the lower porch - which runs the entire back of the house - you can sit and watch the waves and very often they crash on the Lava rock, creating an awesome spray. I was able to walk out on the lava rock once (with help) and I got to see the turtles surfing the waves....there are no words except ~ WOW ~
I will add to the warning about NOT swimming there is absolutely true - DO NOT stay there thinking you can, you can't!
Otherwise book this property with confidence - you won't be sorry!
