Hi! I currently live in Pittsburgh (16 yrs) but grew up in Jamestown, NY. I own a little graphic and website design boutique called - Blue Tomato Design. I LOVE to renovate and restore old spaces. My husband, our dog Moggy and I love being at The Blue Oar!
Kim Schultz purchased this house in 2013
My Aunt & Uncle own an really cool victorian mansion & barn property called The Red House that they rent out for weddings and other special events. My grandma also lives in Cassadaga. I drove by this house in the summer of 2013 and knew I had to get it and renovate it into something beautiful! It was my second reno project - the first is my current office in Pittsburgh.
This area is so quiet and beautiful and the people of this small western NY town are so nice! I fell in love instantly as I'm sure you will too. This place has offered a great balance to my life in the BIG city! Sometimes we drive to Bemus Point on Chautauqua Lake and have drinks at the Hotel Lenhart in the rocking chairs on the porch and watch the sunset and then head over to the Italian Fisherman for dinner. Saturdays are great days for beer tasting and live music at Southern Tier Brewery! Sundays are usually spent at The Blue Oar just relaxing and swimming in the lake. In the winter we LOVE Holiday Valley ski resort and then after we head to Ellicottville Brewery for drinks and dinner before heading back to the lake.
The house was updated but kept the old warm charm with original hardwood floors, original doors and hardware. Kitchen and bathrooms were beautifully updated and had everything we needed (and more) for our stay. The lake was smaller but still large enough to enjoy kayaking (6 kayaks provided by the property). Corn hole, bikes and other games along with the large garage, fire pit and outdoor patio area made the stay really enjoyable.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!
The house was beautiful, very clean and nicely decorated. Everything was just as described, We had great weather so we were able to enjoy the lake and relax on the front porch. We even enjoyed s'mores around the fire pit. Everyone wished we could stay longer. Thank you for the great memorable weekend.
What a wonderful place to stay! Absolutely gorgeous inside with every amenity you can think of! Our family really enjoyed the Kayaks and the bikes! The lake is very clean and clear! A great place to swim! The owner has really done an excellent job with this place!
My friends and I stayed at the blue oar for a girls get away- couldn't have asked for better weather during our stay and the rental was beautiful! Plenty of room for 7 of us! Spent our days on the lake kayaking and floating on tubes/ rafts and just laughing! Evenings at the fire pit then late nights talks on the couch that was big enough for all of us! We will definitely plan on coming back!!
From the moment we contacted Kim I knew this would be a good experience. She was very responsive and happy to answer my questions and provide more detail before we booked. The house is a beautifully renovated 1925 home. It now has three full bathroom and four bedrooms, including a first floor bedroom right across from a full bath. Great if you are bringing a grandmother who might not do a flight of stairs well. The home was very clean, bathrooms spotless. All the bath towels, even beach towels, you could need. Kitchen is fully equipped, and with REALLY nice stuff, not just the usual leftovers you get at some beach rentals. A nice touch is the coffee maker that also does hot water, perfect for tea drinkers! Kim also provides barware, so wine glasses, even champagne glasses! an ice bucket, rocks glasses. THEN there are six kayaks, 4 bikes, and life vests and helmets. This is above and beyond what you get most places.
The location is quiet. If you are looking for nightlife or something in a resort-like community, this is not the place for you (sitting on the dock one day an Amish buggy went by on the adjacent road). But swimming, kayaking, biking, if that's your thing, you will love it. Also dock or porch sitting with a book was great fun. There is one restaurant half a mile away (Whiskey Hill Saloon, good bar food), and Chautauqua is a 20 minute drive for more restaurants, etc. Also check out Lilydale, the spiritualist community about 1.5 miles around the other side of Cassadaga Lake--really fascinating!
We had a great time, as did our two dogs--yep, they let you bring your furry family members (for a small additional charge). This place is a gem, almost afraid to give too good of a review as more people will find it!
This house is located within a short drive to numerous activities! Southern Tier Brewery, Ellicottville Brewery, Winery Tours, Fishing, Hiking, Peak n' Peak, Holiday Valley, Snowmobiling, Kayaking, Biking, Antiquing, Farmers Markets, Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua Lake, Restaurants, Grilling (we have a 6 burner propane grill on-site for your stay), or just sit back and relax!

This house is located on a quite street with year round residents. Renters must be conscious of that and noise must be kept to a reasonable level. This house is great for people with kids. All three bathrooms have a tub and there is a bedroom with 2 twin beds.
