My wife and I arrived, as most travelers, tired and weary after flying many hours. It was so comforting and rejuvenating to arrive and find the property exactly and described by Patrick and so many other travelers. We made our half payment online, and brought cash for the remainder, as well as a damage deposit which was refunded on our departure without issue. Travel from CDG airport to the apartment (and return) was easy on the Metro and RER trains with a little bit of preparation.
We can't add anything that hasn't been said before. No surprises, great location and great value. Highly recommended and we will return.
I came to Paris with my daughter to celebrate my 50th birthday, and I thoroughly enjoyed it ! Patrick's apartment is small, but functional. It is exactly like the photos posted. The location is perfect, the metro is nearby, grocery stores etc are all close, we felt safe in the area as well as in the apartment. There is a code to open the main door, but it wasn't necessary as the lock is broken, meaning that it is not secure. Hopefully this will get fixed. Once inside that main door, there is a small hallway and another door. You need your key to unlock that door and then you are in building. There is an elevator but it is tiny, tiny. The apartment overlooks a tree lined square with restaurants. Since we were there during the soccer tournament, it was usually very loud, even up to 2am. I had no difficulty falling asleep, but my daughter did at times. There is a washer in the apt but we told Patrick that we wouldn't be using it. I regret not learning how to use it because there weren't enough towels or face cloths for us two, considering our length of stay.....would have been nice to have fresh, clean ones. Also, we had to buy bathroom tissue as there was only 1.5 rolls there. There were no bags for the kitchen garbage pail either. These were minor inconveniences because the apartment really was fabulous ! Patrick made sure that we knew how to use the locks on the door, and prior to getting to Paris he was very, very prompt with emails. He answered all of my questions (and I had alot!!!) When we left, I got my complete deposit back.
I would strongly recommend Patrick's apt and look forward to visiting Paris again and renting his place 😃!
Great location!! Clean apartment. It can be hot in Paris in July. Thankfully we had a fan to cool us and dull the outside noise. We would have liked a light top sheet or cover rather than an eiderdown. TV did not work while we were there. It would have been nice to have a drying rack for clothes. We have rented many places and the simpler the better (take the large vase and flowers out of the bathroom). Kitchen had everything we needed. We never met our landlord but we feel confident he would have responded to our needs.
I'll start off by saying that the listed amenities and location were accurate. It is a good location for eating, shopping, and relatively close to Metro 1. This lets you get around most of the big tourist destinations without too much trouble, while also accessing Gare de Lyon quickly. The Marais area has a ton of good restaurants as well as small boulangeries and groceries.
Unfortunately the unit itself left a lot to be desired due to an accumulation of things. Maintenance wise; cabinet doors didn't stay shut, the drying rack's timer didn't work, the shower head was old and partially broken, and there was a partially broken shower door with 'do not touch' stickers on it. The shower door probably could have been removed in the time it took to place the stickers. Most importantly the bed was old and the springs had unbundled, resulting in an uncomfortable week of sleeping. Cleaning wise; food was stuck on silverware, plates and cups had residue, the kitchen floor's grout was black with grime, and hair and dust blew out from under furniture when we turned on the floor fan. It seemed cleaning had primarily been done by the previous renters, as dictated by his contract, with a quick sweep afterwards. A thorough cleaning hadn't been done in quite some time. This had us a bit reluctant about the bedding, which appeared clean, but we wish there had been a full set of sheets to wash rather than a fitted sheet, comforter and ragged old blanket.
Regarding the renter himself, Patrick was friendly but certainly not hospitable. I'm not sure what has changed since 2007, but he is extremely concerned about theft or damage to the property. Even after providing a substantial deposit we were lectured for 30+minutes about needing to pay in advance for a broken cup or plate. This set a bad tone considering the poor maintenance and old furniture. If he wants double the value of a simple cup, how much will we be charged if a door on the rickety armoire came lose through normal use? Additionally, despite using VRBO and providing payment confirmation Patrick refused to acknowledge our payment prior to arrival and asked for all our available cash as an additional deposit. This was frustrating and left us with a pile of euros at the end of our trip, when our deposits were returned, that we could have spent throughout the week.
Overall I would not recommend renting this place, as the good location doesn't outweigh the poor maintenance, cleaning, and frustrating owner.
Location, location, location - the three best things about this apartment. Everything went smoothly with the rental, including being met at 5:30 AM with our deposit when we had to leave early. The small square two floors down was more of a hot spot for very late night gatherings than we would have liked, but we tired ourselves out enough during the day to be able to sleep without difficulty. Then, in the morning, the boulangerie only steps away brightened every day right from the beginning, along with the bells of Notre Dame. The apartment was large enough for the two of us and our 29-year-old daughter to be quite comfortable. You cannot beat feeling right in the middle of everything you want to see.
Adoramos! O Patrick é pontual, prestativo e educado! O Apartamento é no melhor de Paris e tudo é funcional, Recomendamos! Thank You very much Patrick!
Metro station : Hotel de Ville. From Charles-De-Gaulle Airport, take the RER B, straight away to Chatelet-Les-Halles. Take the metro line 1, direction Chateau de Vincennes. Go out at the next station: Hotel de Ville. The apartment is only 150 meters away from the metro station.
In the heart of the Marais, a very few streets away from the apartment, you will enjoy to visit the Carnavalet museum, Picasso museum or the very charming 'Place des Vosges', well-known for its art galleries and the house of the famous French novelist Victor Hugo (Les Miserables), where he lived from 1832 to 1848. Not far away is Place de la Bastille, symbol of the French Republic. This lively area where is located the apartment abounds in restaurants, cafes, old and charming boutiques, typical of the Marais. All the stores of food are just close to the apartment : Supermarket, Bakeries, Grocers, Open Markets with all the fresh products, vegetables and fruits of seasons, etc. On the spot in the apartment, available : many guides (French & English) of the Marais and Paris.
