About the property

2 bed stone cottage with shared pool, garden and play area in quiet hills

Les Lavandes is one of two gites at Le Mas des Cyprès near Cahors, Saint Cirq Lapopie and Rocamadour. Each is a separate building set around a central U-shaped courtyard with its own private terrace set away from the other.

Les Lavandes is a two bedroom detached, stone cottage sleeping up to 4 plus a baby. Ground-floor entrance sun room with foc wifi, separate fitted kitchen, ground floor fully tiled shower room, double-aspect living/dining room with fireplace and wood-burner and corner staircase to the first floor mezzanine double bedroom which leads to a smaller twin room.

Outside you have exclusive use of a south-facing terrace with pergola, Weber BBQ and wooden table and chairs.

In the entrance sun room you enjoy the morning sun; here there is foc wifi, a sofa, comfortable chairs and a side table. Next is the well-equipped kitchen with an oven, hob, extractor fan, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, washing machine, kettle, toaster, coffee percolator, blender and all the glasses, crockery and cutlery you will need. There is also a broom, dustpan and brush, hoover, iron and ironing board.

The shower room is fully tiled with a walk-in shower, washbasin, cupboard and toilet.

In the living/dining room you have an extendable dining table with seating for up to six, comfortable seating and a footstool housing the terrace chair cushions, a new flat screen TV with English Freeview and French channels, a DVD player, a stereo with ipod dock and a selection of board games. There is also a fireplace with wood-burner for those chilly evenings.

Upstairs there is a double mezzanine bedroom with wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables with lamps, a hairdryer and a tower fan. This leads to a smaller twin with storage and a fan.

Outside you have exclusive use of a south-facing terrace with Weber BBQ, pergola and a wooden table and chairs. You also have use of two wooden picnic tables set in the garden taking advantage of the views.

Set away from the gite is the fenced pool area protected with auto-closing gates and magnetic latches. This 11 x 5m saline pool has steps at one end where you can relax and enjoy the views. It is surrounded by a paved terrace with ten sun loungers, parasols, side tables, a solar shower and table tennis table. This area is shared with the second gite and the owners who use the pool on hot evenings. It is a popular place for all to meet and chat and children to make new friends.

There is a shaded, childrens play area with trampoline, chalet, sandpit, swings and slides.

We are about 10 mins from the local A20 motorway and 8-10 mins from Cahors with its famous market, medieval old town and good choice of restaurants. About 1hr20mins north of Toulouse with its airport served by low-cost airlines, 2hrs from Bergerac and Rodez airports, 2 hours from Caracassonne, 5 hours by car or train from Paris and 8 hours from Calais.

Set between many historical sites such as two of France's prettiest villages St Cirq Lapopie and Rocamadour, medieval Carcassonne, the pink city Toulouse and the beaches on the Med and Atlantic. The Med beaches are one of our favourite summer holiday days out.

About Virginia Paschall

We moved here from southern England in 2004 for a quieter pace of life and have never looked back. Returning guests have become friends.

With easy access to the UK, Paris and Barcelona not to mention the Med villages and beaches we are spoilt living on the lovely area with the hot, sunny summers yet close to family, friends and city shopping!

Virginia Paschall purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Virginia Paschall chose Valroufié

We loved this at first site although it looked quite different. We have invested a lot of time and effort to ensure this property offers all you need for a home-from-home. We also installed the popular saline pool which takes advantage of our views. We are in the quiet of the hills of a national park yet just 10 mins from Cahors and its shops, restaurants, station and hospital!

What makes this cottage unique

In the peace of quiet of the hills where you enjoy a gentle breeze in the summer heat yet close to restaurants, shops and activities with easy access to the motorway and regional airports. Not to forget the wine and local gastronomy!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We totally enjoyed our stay the accommodation was perfect everything was catered for. The owner made our week delightful even booked the dogs vet appointment for our return back to the U.K. The gites are clean and comfortable, the pool area is enclosed with amazing views over Cahors. Lovely patios beside each gite with BBQ's provided. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting peace and tranquility.

Characterful, comfortable, and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Les Lavandes is a very well equipped and comfortable gites in a quiet setting in the countryside outside Cahors. There is a lovely pool which is shared with the other gites owned by the same owners next door from which there are spectacular views. The gites itself is an old cottage with wooden beams and is well appointed and nicely done. There are plenty of places of interest to visit in the near vicinity.

Flawless visit to great gite with lovely pool in a wonderful part of France

  • 5 of 5

we (myself, my wife and two 12 year old girls) stayed for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time here - we could not have wished for more!

The site is very well-equipped, self-contained with a beautiful pool - absolutely spotlessly clean, with a lot of space and seating around it, kept secure (so little ones would stumble into it) and at the end of a long hot day, an absolute delight to use. The views from the pool terrace, especially at sunset, are amazing.

The location is great - quiet at night so you can get a good sleep, but close enough to Cahors (10 mins), the Lot river area, Saint Cirque Lapopoe, canoeing on the Cele river, swimming at Vers, cycling and walking on the tow-path, Rocamadour, etc., etc. - it feels like we only scratched the surface in this beautiful part of France - I have seen a lot of France, this is definitely one of my favourite areas.

The previous reviews have said most things already (I really do not understand the 2 star review btw), but just wanted to mention how helpful and friendly the owner Virginia is, whilst respecting your privacy - she takes great pride in keeping the gite and the pool in beautiful condition and her guests happy. She has detailed knowledge of the area and gave us loads of good tips - thank you, we hope to be back some time soon....

Wonderful, relaxing property

  • 5 of 5

The gite was extremely well equipped. The owners have actually lived in the house in the past, which has resulted in extensive kitchen utensils, large amount of storage for clothing, and a washing machine (plus clothesline outdoors for drying). TV is available in English or French. The grounds, which include a play space, pool, ping-pong table and outdoor dining area, made it a fun place for the kids and relaxing environment for the adults. It was simple to book and the owner Virginia was very responsive to all my questions. She has lived in the area for 12 years, so she can recommend all sorts of restaurants and activities as well as give directions & maps to anywhere you plan to go. In the area, I would say that dining at La Truite Doree in Vers and taking a tour of La Grotte du Pech-Merle were our favorite activities (besides lounging by the pool, that is). Of our 4 weeks in France, we enjoyed our stay at this gite the most. Will definitely give this address to friends.

Wonderful stay near Cahors

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at "Le mas des Cypres" a few minutes away from Cahors and in the vicinity of great touristic sites in the Lot department.

The two-floors house was clean and well equipped. It could easily accomodate a family of four, we even had an additionnal guest on site.

The landlady is easily available and always helpful.

Concerning the property around the house, kids enjoyed the many outdoor toys and swings available, and of course the swimming pool (very well tended).

Lovely property in an interesting region

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a marvellous time in this comfortable, spotless and beautifully equipped stone farmhouse. The saltwater swimming pool was lovely and our girls (3 and 6 years old) enjoyed the play equipment in the garden, especially the trampoline. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area (visits to Rocamadour, Cirque La Popie and river swimming in the Lot and Cele were highlights) and Virginia welcomed us warmly. We would happily stay here again on a future visit to the Dordogne - thanks again Virginia!
