Why Nelson Owens chose Beaufort
Rehabilitation Tax Credits Used to Restore Unusual Gothic Revival-Style House in Beaufort By John Wood 211 Turner Street, after rehabilitation Beaufort's most exuberant example of a Gothic Revival-style residence was recently restored using the state and federal rehabilitation tax credits. When the nondescript historic house at 211 Turner St. was purchased, the owners did not realize the architectural gem that was hidden beneath layers of synthetic siding. A series of architectural investigations by HPO Restoration Specialist John Wood revealed the building's original configuration and finishes. The forensic analysis of the building enabled the owners to restore missing features, including the first floor of a central projecting bay and A. J. Downing-inspired window hoods.

great location & owner was very nice but needs to be aired out
the location is fantastic & the owner was very accommodating but the home is really old & has decades of smells that can not be taken care of by leaving the doors open..... the downstairs kitchen/living room is very dark & musty & a lot of the windows don't open
I’m sorry that you were disappointed in the Admiral’s House. This is an 1883 Gothic Revival architecture that is unique to this area with the original floors and original windows. All the curtains in the house can be adjusted to let more light in. This is the first time that anyone has mentioned the “musty” smell. The house is thoroughly cleaned before and after each guest.
Perhaps an historic house wasn’t the best location for your stay.
I hope that you will give our lovely town of Beaufort, NC another chance. There are many housing options available to choose from.

Spacious house in great location!
Our party came to Beaufort for a three night stay. The location of this house was great. It was easy to get to the Duke Marine lab for the work part and very easy to get downtown to eat at the restaurants. The house had plenty of bedrooms with private baths and the common areas were very comfortable and spacious. I would like to return and spend more time sitting on the front porch.
We're happy that everything worked out for the group staying at the Admiral's House. There is always something fun going on in the area. Please come back when you can enjoy "more porch time".
