Stay a week, stay a weekend, come and get a taste of the Saltwater. This beautiful 2BR/2.5BA with loft townhouse is located in the gated, gulf front community of Barrier Dunes which offers multiple pools, playgrounds, tennis courts, playgrounds, a gazebo and clubhouse. This wonderfully decorated and well-stocked unit is perfect for the whole family and makes it easy to bring kids along since it's just across from the large community pool and close to one of the community stocked ponds. Don’t worry, you won’t have to leave the family pet behind either. This unit is also pet friendly. Floor Plan: Ground Level - covered paved parking and foyer. First Floor - living room with flat screen TV, DVD, deck overlooking pond, dining area, kitchen, half bath and a large sleeper sectional sofa. Second Level - bedroom 1 with king, TV, full bath with shower, balcony; laundry closet; bedroom 2 with queen, TV, full bath with shower/tub, small balcony. Third Level - loft with large flat screen TV, Sega video game console, Wii, and games. Loft is accessible by latter only and may not be suitable for some children.
We have been visiting the Cape since 2009. We chose the region specifically because it was the #1 pet friendly beach and our fur babies go everywhere with us. We were blessed in 2013 to be able to purchase a condo in the gated community, Barrier Dunes, that we had come to know and love. Our children have grown up so much on the beaches there and our fur babies just love playing in the waves. Some day we hope to actually spend more time there.
Brian Burton purchased this townhome in 2013
We purchased from an original owner. This is providing us an opportunity to slowly turn a lovely beach rental into a home away from home for our family. We've debated on not renting, as the upgrades will be near and dear to our hearts, but that is still up for discussion as everything progresses. This property is close enough to the beach to see the water but not so close it puts us in the flood zone (which is why we purchased this specific unit).
The loft is a third spleeping area for school aged children. We have set it up with games, tv, video games, etc. So they can go up and disappear. The one thing we didn't like as visitors/vacationers was having the children sleeping on the pull out in the living area, as when the adults wake and are ready to get the day started it left the area feeling clustered and cluttered. The loft provides a great way to solve that issue and maintain a nice living area to relax in. As of the moment of typing this there are 3 twins in the loft, in July there will be 4. In the fall of 2015 the roof will be replaced and at that time we will have the remodel the loft area, replacing the ladder with an actual staircase.
The location was exactly what I was looking for, but the condo was a bit run down. The Wifi quit working two days into our week, the TV was stuck on one channel. My family was not there to watch TV and be on the Internet, but it rained everyday so we noticed it more. The paint was coming off the walls upstairs and in bathroom. The "loft" that has three beds for "kids" which takes a ladder to get to that is pretty steep. Once you are up there beware, there is no door or gate to block the opening. There is no way I would let my kids sleep up there. The Patio door did not lock and it is connected to the deck and stairs. I did not sleep well since I was getting up to check on things every hour. The appliances and utensils were great, the Kurig was a nice touch as well. Overall the kitchen, dining and living room were nice size and comfortable.
We arrived at the rental and on the way up the stairs we greeted by dog feces on the wall. Upon futher entrance into the townhouse, we discovered several spots of wet urine on the floor. There had been no attempt to clean these spots. Then we noticed two or three different molds on the air vents. This went on to discovering more mold almost a third the way up both shower curtains, blood on the bathroom door, blood left on kitchen counter, black grease running down the wall behind the stove, couch was white and had several stains all over, sand all over the tables, others dripped foods and things all over the tables, large spot of mold down the wall in the master bedroom, and large spot of dry urine all over the townhome. I can not begin to say how disappointed I was. The entire unit smelled of urine. Gave management a call to which they sent a girl I'm guessing maybe 16 years old with one cleaning cloth and a bottle of spray. She attempted to clean the feces from the wall and feces and urine from the top of the toilet and went straight to the kitchen. I thought I would vomit. She was actually going to clean the kitchen with the same cloth and a little spray after the feces and urine. I complained and next to women came to vacuum. I guess the point was to vacuum up wet urine from the carpet. Unbelievable... We contacted Homeaway and kept getting the run around. Owner never responded to me or Homeaway. We left and rented from another company. Our clothing had taken on the smell of urine and I had to wash everything when we got to the next place. This place and this owner should be avoided Period! Never have I been so upset with a rental. Just awful. Ruined two days of our vacation. I have pictures I wish I could share.
First, the condo is very inviting with great accommodations for the five of us. Each person had some private space which was nice. The huge sofa was so comfortable- just as good or better than the beds! I loved it so much that I tried to find a tag to order one for home! The kitchen was well- stocked with several small appliances and the Kerig was fantastic. The property is obviously well-maintained overall. However, there were a couple of walls with obvious signs of peeling paint. The bedroom curtains in the master bedroom need replacing. I was very pleased that the condo was clean beyond my expectations. Great location and overall we would stay again.
The location is pretty prime, being only a short walk to the pool with the beach just beyond.
Kitchen is stocked well with Stainless Steel pots/pans, fancy plastic cups, and a very nice faucet and sink.
The dining table is big and has a lazy susan.
The living room TV is big and modern with cable and games.
The coffee table is actually a pull-out tray table!
MONOPOLY is available, as well as 2 card decks.
The couch is newer and pretty great -- also a sleeper sofa.
A/C kept place very cold.
The Sand Bucket restaurant (8 miles back toward the mainland) is fantastic (closed on Mondays).
Coneheads restaurant (across main road from neighborhood) is supposed to be really good (but we tried to go on Wednesday -- they are closed).
Fires and dogs are allowed on the beach -- smores by the ocean!
The Trading Post serves breakfast biscuits and has pretty much everything you could need. (The General Store -- not so much.)
Next to the Trading Post is a little Donut Shop that serves UH-MAZE-ING fried croissants and pretty good donuts too.
PRISTINE PROPERTIES really came thru with helpfulness and service during our stay! They even put our trash out by the road on trash days!
The skillet was very small -- 8"ish. (We tend to use our 12" every day.)
We had issues with the clothes dryer... The proximity to the wall closed off the vent and nothing would get dry until we pulled it out of the closet.
The gas grill uses propane but has no gauge. It didn't run out for us, but I'd hate to be stuck with half-grilled steaks...
There's a hellacious screeching noise that the master shower makes when the water runs, heard most loudly from the secondary bathroom (behind it).
The oven seemed to only have 1 rack... had to use the grill to supplement while baking.
The range hood LOOKS pretty beat up. Seems out of place in the kitchen.
The covered parking area is TINY. Driveway is pretty long, but good luck getting out of anything bigger than a civic underneath the house.
There are mosquitos/biting bugs that will EAT YOU UP! They hit mostly at dusk and dark and times of low wind. Bike riding in the evening was painful.
If you want anyplace else to eat breakfast that's not biscuits or donuts... good luck. Hope you bought something in Port Saint Joe.
Barrier Dunes is a lovely vacation spot - and a great place for this destination wedding! This unit, Saltwater, was comfortable and well-situated within the BD community. There's a walkway off of the balcony that leads directly to the clubhouse ramp - very convenient for the many beach and clubhouse related activities we attended. The end of April is beautiful at the Cape, and there's almost nobody on the beach this time of year - nice and private. The water was so beautiful, and we did get to see some dolphins.
Although not fancy, this unit is nicely furnished with a comfy sectional and a nice round dining room table. We liked the double master floor plan. My son stayed in the loft, which is accessible via a sturdy ladder. There's plenty of porch furniture. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. My son and his friends are pretty serious gamers, and, apparently, Saltwater has great internet service. The unit was very clean.
Take note that CSB is near Panama City, which is on Central Time. Your phones will likely change over to Central Time, but keep your wristwatch handy - CSB is on Eastern Time!
Brian, the owner, was very responsive and accommodating.
Thanks for everything! We had a blast!

This home was extremely comfortable and just steps from the beach. As a cook, I was especially impressed with the incredibly well stocked kitchen. I had everything I needed for our fresh shrimp boil and baking cookies too. The sectional couch provided the perfect place to nap after a full day of playing with our dogs on the beach. Highly recommended.
