About the property

Nicest Home in Slaughter Beach Available year round endless amenities

Newer home custom constructed in 2007, completed in 2012. We have discounted shoulder season rates for fall , winter and spring. This house has an awesome kitchen and open entertainment area.

The home's style is comtemporary with beach accents . YET NOT STUFFY or Mausoleum like ! How about cool, and bring the kids and the pets! Just no Newfoundlands, aka large dogs! Seriously bring the parents, kids, pets, neighbors, best friends and spread out! We have plenty I mean plenty of room for your amazing get away. Pricing, nowhere, nowhere can you get this kind of home for the price and split the ticket with your friends. Single rooms in Rehoboth near the beach are 200-299, 399 for the Boardwalk. You get our place and can cook your meals and enjoy the serenity ! No traffic, no crowded beaches! Kick back with a glass of wine and escape...

It is a bay beach and that means at low tide sometimes the water can be brackish you will have to wait until high tide to swim or walk 300 yards south where the jetty doesn't affect the shore. IF you're lucky there might be some winds that pick up and you can enjoy the white caps and watch the kids boogie board. Surfing probably if your starting out might happen with the tides changing. But this beach is perfect for little kids the surf is predictable unless there's a storm brewing...you can basically sit and watch the kids comb the beach for treasures. Launch a jet ski, kayak, canoe, paddle board off the front yard and no worries about strong currents and little kids.

Please have an appreciation for horseshoe crabs as they tend to wash up after hi tide, and all the other amazing critters you will find.... kids will love it!

The house has basic cable plus wireless.

The house has 4 bedrooms and a den that can be used as a sleep area. 3 full baths , 2 with jet tubs, an outside shower and a 1/2 bath . Gas grill, views, views, views, memories, memories! You will love it here! Thank you to the families that continue to refer and rebook!

Our home is located in a serene ,pristine, protected marine estuary. You will be surrounded by all kinds of critters and will witness nature from any of our large decks or beachfront yard.

Google the history of Slaughter Beach and you will find lots of history here! The town was founded in 1681 and incorporated in 1931. Slaughter Beach used to be a bustling little get away for Wilmington and Philadelphia. Once upon a time SB had a grocery store, hotel, and even a boardwalk where passengers were dropped off from all over. A really bad storm took that away but a few folks can still talk about the good ole days. Google Fort Saulsbury and you will learn about Slaughter Beaches contributions to both WWI, and WWII! There is a bunker in the back bay now taken over by a goat, boar farm! Did you know that Delaware bays' harbor 1000's of shipwrecks? There were plenty of pirates, Spanish fleets, Irish passenger and Cargo ships trying to make it to the largest Port of Call once upon a time, Philadephia! There are presumably over 200 shipwrecks near or in front of Slaughter Beach! Bring your metal detector you might get lucky. AaaRRRR! Philadelphia and Wilmington were very popular targets during the industrial period, and Germany wanted to destroy them! Slaughter beach was on the way .You can also google the history of my alternate favorite place, Lewes Del, about 19 miles south of Slaughter Beach. You and the kids CAN enter those lookout towers and see cannons, big guns, and the paths where ordinances may still be buried. Very cool!

If you enjoy nature this place is magical. You will find on your exploration :horseshoe crabs, diamond back terrapins, porpoises, Heron, seals, shorebirds, snowy egrets, seagulls, Bald Eagles, red fox, and white tail deer to name a few.

If your a bird watcher: stilts, bobwhite, dowitchers, skimmer shenanigans, wave runners, wood-warblers, black skimmers, sandpipers, swallows, purple martins, and the list goes on. It is a protected bay/marine estuary.

The Dupont Nature Center is one street over, it's a short walk or bike ride. Both parents and kids will love the tour, and pick up some fresh fish from the fish market. You can also launch your boat from the Marina free of charge. Crab from the backyard, fish off the docks, or surf fish from the front yard of our house.

If you like to bike Bay Ave is on the scenic bay trail and you will be joined by many bikers enjoying the trail. It's a perfect ride or walk to connect with Nature. Kayak , sail, paddle board from the front yard. Swimming at high tide and boogie boarding and waterplay are available from 30 steps.

Have a nightly bonfire, walk your dog, and enjoy an adult beverage without permits and restrictions. No parking passes required!

Slaughter Beach minimart is a short bike ride, or long walk, under 2 miles away. They have snacks, some groceries, sunscreen, bait and tackle and rent paddle boards!

We have caught blue crab from our kayaks 50 feet off shore, and flounder off the beach. If you are lucky enough to book this rental for July 4th weekend be sure to attend the sailing regatta there is a lot of fun to be had!

Slaughter Beach pavilion is located 2 miles south next to the fire hall if you want to encounter more people.

We like our serene quiet beach that's blocked off from tourism.

Should you want to venture out for hustle and bustle , the Tanger/Rehoboth Outlets are 22 miles south and there are several waterparks, a boardwalk , and fabulous dining. Tax free shopping in Delaware!

My favorite alternate is Lewes and Cape Henlopen Park with the kids. I mentiond earlier the bunkers and look out towers, be sure to visit the last operated coast guard station, Henlopen Station that manned the waters by actually rowing! Look up Captain Jones...he was my great grandfather!

While in Lewes be sure to take the kids to Lewes Pirate Expeditions they will love it! Make a reservation early and watch the kids take on a pirate and a treasure hunt at sea! Be sure to stop at the Zwaanendaal Museum and ask them directions to the house that still has a cannon ball lodged in the foundation..Circa.. pirate days!

Locally 4 miles away is the historic town of Milford Delaware with many shops, restaurants, antique malls, a very large new library, chain supermarkets, walmart, art studios, bakerys 'La Dolce', parks, fitness centers, there is also a hospital etc..

Every Saturday beginning at 8 am there is a farmers market on canal street with fresh produce arts and crafts, usually kid activities every Saturday. Try the new micro brewery tasting room off airport road, Misipillion Brewery!

NASCAR fans are welcome! Dover Downs and Casino is 28 miles north of us and visit the Sunday brunch if it's rainy! Harrington Casino is only 12 miles and 'Bones' another good choice.

If your really into history take the kids to Frederica and visit the start of the Underground railroad! And the Mason-Dixon Line. We are surrounded by rich history and NATURE!

Beautiful, comfortable home

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a week in early September 2017. The weather was gorgeous. Nice little beach right in the back yard. We spent a lot of time there. Enjoyed the kayaks and found beautiful shells along the beach. The sunrises and sunsets are incredible! The bedrooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Bathrooms with large showers and jacuzzui tubs. The kitchen is amazing with all dishes, wine glasses, cooking and baking pans galore! Even a wine fridge! They have available books, DVDs, puzzles, and magazines. We had a great time of fun and relaxation. Thank you, Kim, for making your home available to us!

Great Home, Excellent Time!

  • 5 of 5

Can't say enough good things about this home, the homeowner and the location! This was our 4th time vacationing in this lovely, well appointed home. My husband, myself and our 2 dogs, love staying here. The home is very clean, welcoming and there's always something new - this year it was the fire pit and flower wall/partition.

The homeowner, Kimberly, is easy to work with. She responds right away and keeps us posted on check-in information.

The Bay is beautiful and we enjoy walking the shore with our dogs. We look forward to saving as many horseshoes as possible during each visit.

Looking forward to our next vacation! Thank you Kimberly - we love your home!

Fantastic House/Disappointing "beach" and location

  • 3 of 5

The house is awesome. A large open, fully stocked kitchen on the top floor is magnificent. Could not have been better. The top floor had a dining area, living room, TV and deck overlooking the bay. The sunrise was memorable. A master bedroom with bathroom on the top floor and additional bathroom in the hall completes the top floor layout. We loved spending hours on this floor.

The second floor had a master bedroom, bedroom with bunk beds, room with futon and couch and a room with a bed. There was a full bathroom in the hall. Every one of the house bathrooms was top of the line. They were large and beautifully decorated.

There was a garage area with games such as ping pong and darts. This area could be entered through a door on the second floor

My criticisms of the house are as follows; {1} the sofa bed on the top floor is inadequate and difficult to sleep on. {2} the bunk beds are impossible to sleep on. They are of poor quality and might be adequate for children under 5. {3} the garage area was not user-friendly and appeared not to be a important priority for the owner,

All of my house criticisms would have been hardly worth mentioning if not for the beach and location absolute disappointments. Rereading the owners description of the beach, bay and location, I can now understand what she was trying to say. There are hundreds of dead horseshoe crabs on the beach . At low tide the water is brackish. The marsh area has too many mosquitoes and horse flies. I cannot believe it could be kid friendly or a place where you lay down a blanket, open an umbrella or picnic. We drove a mile to swim.

Also, the house is 6 miles from any store or restaurant. You are in some ways "isolated". We would have preferred being closer to "civilization" .

Before I forget, we must give kudos to the owner for answering all of our text messages, emails and personal phone calls. She was the best.

In conclusion, the spacious house was large enough to handle 12 adults, a baby and 2 dogs. It was a house to die for. Magnificent dinners were prepared and consumed every night. Unfortunately, I had high expectations for the beach and outside area and was highly disappointed.

Owner's Response: Todd, I am happy and saddened by your experience. I spent several hours sending you information and things to do , answering questions about the house and the area. I have taken a lot of time to be clear about the beach and surrounding area. We are not an Ocean beach but a bay beach and they are very different. The murky water at low tide and the mud flats are indicative of bay beaches. I am thinking you wanted a Rehoboth Beach Ocean front experience. I have taken time to explain there is a different feel and most people that chose the house are looking for serenity and getting in touch with nature. The horseshoe crabs are part of the charm of this beach and many chose the beach to get away form the crowds and to appreciate the natural setting . I am considering revising a few things in the advertisement. I hope your next experience will reflect what your party was looking for . I believe most of you were coming form the NYC and the amenities offered in Slaughter were perhaps too remote . Thank you for the comments about the house. I am thinking the number in your party was not adequate for the accommodations and size of my home. I didn't realize so many adults were being accommodated and we don't usually have adults sleeping in the kid bunk room, or the couches. I will take into consideration the accommodations and comfort of the couches. We advertise and really need to be at 12 guests. As for the garage, it is not addressed or set up as an entertainment area. Simply put, I have not received this feedback before and will consider closing off the garage as it was never intended to be part of the house flow for entertainment. I appreciate the time you spent and the compliments as well as the critique. Maybe we can make suggestions for you and your party in the future and would be happy to do so. Kind regards and again thank you for choosing my home.

Beautifully appointed home, gorgeous sunrises, quiet, relaxed setting.

  • 4 of 5

If you enjoy quiet walks on the beach, away from the crowds, this is the place for you. If you're looking to park under a beach umbrella, play in the sand, and take an occasional dip in the water - not so much. The beach in front of the house is littered with thousands of horseshoe crab carcasses, and the water is pretty murky. The approach to the water at Slaughter Beach itself, about 2 miles down the road, is a minefield of pebbles. Nicer beaches are a few miles away.

The kitchen is outstanding. The cooks in our group couldn't wait to get their hands on the stove. TV and Wi-Fi were great. The bathrooms were very nice. The beds were average, at best.

Beautiful home in quiet setting

  • 5 of 5

This house is in a quiet location with a beautiful view of the bay. Loved that pets are welcomed and 2 kayaks are available for use. Kitchen is fully stocked. Plenty of towels and linens. I would book this house again if staying in the area.

Just can't say enough good things about this house and the owners!

  • 5 of 5

With three grown children, that all have their own lives, two aging in-laws and a golden retreiver, we were searching for a rental property close enough to home to allow everyone to join us as their jobs/lives allowed. This house was perfect for that. The kitchen was incredible. From the high end appliances to the massive island, it doesn't get any better than this. (Now if I could just figure out how to put that kitchen in our house I'd be in heaven!) The rest of the house was as fantastic as the kitchen. Very tastefully decorated with just enough beach decor without going overboard. The wall of windows were incredible. French doors everywhere allowing you to access the decks from just about every room. Watching the sunrise from the deck was beautiful and I got to see every one of them while we were there :-)

The location was great for us - relaxing quiet town for us and half hour drive to Rehoboth for the kids. We enjoyed talking to the neighbor, seeing the flowers in his front yard and the purple martin bird houses bringing in constant bird activity in the back. Sitting on the back deck star gazing was yet another highlight.

So many things to do with just a short drive - Dogfish Head Brewery in Milford - we loved that we could take our dog with us, Dover Air Mobility Command Museum was fun, Rehoboth boardwalk just to name a few. If you like pizza Grotto's Pizza is the place to go.

Kim was the best, there was a problem with the pot-filler above the stove prior to our arrival and Kim was so apologetic to be interrupting our stay asking if someone could stop over to shut the water off to it. Bill, the maintenance man, was super nice as well.

The only downside was the horseshoe crabs - lots and lots of them. We found out from our neighbor, after we came home of course, the we apparently hit prime time for the area for them to be "bad". Oh well - still wouldn't have changed our mind about renting the house as there is a nice empty beach 3 minutes down the road by the firehouse.

Thanks Kim for sharing your beautiful house with us. It's certainly a vacation that we'll all remember for years to come.
