SPECTACULAR SWAN RIVER RETREAT!
Imagine waking up to the idyllic sounds of the rolling river, then relaxing on your deck sipping your first cup of coffee as the sun rises illuminating the majestic Rocky Mountains that rise to 9,820 feet beyond the river’s edge. Spending your day catching beautiful cutthroat trout from a river bank, a raft or a pontoon boat. Or maybe casting your line into one of the many mountain lakes or streams that are minutes away. Play pool or foosball on the covered riverside deck before dinner. BBQ dinners on the deck. Incredible sunsets. S'mores around the campfire at river's edge. Finally curling up in your bedroom overlooking the river, knowing that the white-tail deer will be in the yard when you wake.
Swan River Camp was built in 2001 by local artisans, using trees from our property. It consists of a main cabin with two bedrooms, three full bathrooms, living/dining area, with a large roofed deck adjacent to the river's edge. Behind the cabin is the bunkhouse, consisting of two bedrooms, each with a large loft for the kids, two bunkrooms with four bunks each. It also has a cold-water bathroom. Nearby are three two-story cabins which - along with a trout pond and the main cabin - circle the lush green yard, which itself is bordered by a stream that flows into the river. In the summer, the stream provides a fantastic sand beach swimming hole.
The main cabin has one king, one queen and a pullout in the living room. The bunkhouse has two private bedrooms, each with a queen and a large loft for kids. The three two-story cabins each have a queen bed on the second floor and couches on the first with one of them turning into a pullout. Very comfortable for 26, plus however many kids you want to squeeze into the lofts. There is bottled, but no running water in the three guest cabins; however they do have small refrigerators and microwaves.
The list of things to do at or near the camp is almost endless. Please see the list of amenities in this listing.
• Golf at the Jack Nicklaus designed 27 hole Eagle Bend Golf Course , or at the smaller course at Seeley Lake, both about 40 minutes away.
• There are at least a half dozen golf courses within an hour of the camp.
• Fishing is great, whether it be on the river, a mountain lake or going for the 'big ones' on nearby Flathead Lake.
• Biking. Hiking. The hiking is outstanding. There are weekly organized hikes for people new to the area, or take one of the easy long or short self-guided hikes along the wilderness boundaries up to cascading waterfalls right out of the travel magazines.
• Deer and elk everywhere. A nature paradise for young and old. The property is available year 'round, with great deer and elk hunting in the fall and snowmobiling in the winter.
• The camp is only about an hour south of Glacier National Park.
• The Swan River divides two mountain ranges and empties into Flathead Lake at Bigfork, Montana, a half hour away. The picturesque village of Bigfork is a premier visitor destination with five star restaurants, a world-class summer playhouse, shopping and art galleries that will amaze you.
Treat you and yours to the best Montana experience of a lifetime!! Welcome to the Swan River Camp!
Magnificent waterfront, inspiring mountain views and sunsets; family recreation on a wonderful river with countless activities of every description.
The photos don't do this property justice, each of the cabins are so unique and well thought out, there was plenty of space for our group of 20. We had some initial concerns with the bathrooms being in the main cabin but it wasn't an issue at all.
Doug (the homeowner) was very helpful and showed us around the property upon arrival. The kitchen was well appointed with slow cookers, baking pans, knives, spices, and basics (sugar, flour, paper products, etc). There were also plenty of things for the kids to do, fishing poles for the kids pond, yard games, toys and video tapes, no one was ever bored!
With the river right out the door, a fire pit, plenty of spots to relax, the pool and foosball tables, croquet and volleyball, this place is like your own personal camp! We loved it and hope to return sometime. Thank you Doug and Linda for sharing your little slice of heaven in Montana!!
The cabins form a lovely circle right by the side of the river, with a beautiful lawn area smack dab in the middle so that all our family's kids could play in the line of sight of adults sitting on the porches, by the fire pit, or in one of the hammocks. It is a really thoughtfully set up retreat. It was easily accessible to Bigfork and Flathead lake. The Swan River was the most beautiful backdrop and playground for our diverse family and made for a wonderful experience for all of us. Our week included floating on the river, boating on Flathead Lake, trips to Glacier, and countless hours relaxing and spending time together by the river.
We travelled to Swan River Retreat from the UK to see family. Although I'd seen pictures, nothing quite prepared us for the fantastic setting: the Swan River turns a bend only a few feet in front of the main cabin, and the flow creates a real sense of immediacy. The kitchen was well-stocked with basics, and there was plenty of space for our whole group on the deck. There are lots of toys and games for children of all ages. It is very apparent that the owner has invested a lot of attention and care into the development and maintenance of the place. Our kids, aged 1, 2 and 5 also had a terrific time. We were very grateful to be able to spend time there. It's also worth mentioning that the property was an excellent launching point for visits to Glacier National Park (which we visited on 2 occasions) and a boat trip on Flathead Late.
The pictures do not do this place justice! So many amenities and attention to detail. Clearly this is a well loved place; Doug met us and walked us through all the details to make our stay perfect. The beautiful yard, river, fire pit and covered porch were where we spent most of our time, but the main house and four outbuildings provided room for 24 of us (ages ranging for 10 months to 75 years). I don't hesitate to recommend this place.
We had a family reunion with 14 people ages 2-69. Everyone had an amazing week. The cabins are stunning inside and out with lots of space to play outside. We had all our meals on the deck, so nice to have a table that could fit us all at the same time. Doug and Linda have thought of everything you could possibly need so cooking for a large group was so much easier. From early morning coffee looking over the river to campfires at night , this holiday was perfect. The cabins were spotless, the grounds well maintained and the fish pund was stocked to entertain the kids. Even the two dogs had a great holiday. Being able to play in the river whenever they wanted.
Can't wait to go back!
An amazing property that was built with great skill and attention to detail. We had a group of 9 adults and 5 children ranging in age from 2-69. From the moment we arrived and Doug showed us around until the moment we left everything was perfect. All the cabins were spotless and had everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. There were toys, books, games, swing set and even a rocking horse on the deck. The kitchen and pantry had everything you could need to cook and feed a large group. The long table on the deck was perfect for family meals.
We brought a couple of small inflatable boats with us which were great for floating in the river. Be sure and bring life jackets for the little ones. The swimming hole was fun for the children and the fishermen enjoyed being able to cast a line right off shore. We saw deer every day and even a bear at the cabin next door.
Loved all the little details that Doug and Linda built into the property, felt like we were at home from the minute we walked in the door.
