What makes this condo unique

While staying at The Aspens, we enjoy swimming in the year round heated pool and relaxing in one of the three hot tubs.There is also a newly renovated fitness room in the complex. There is ski in, ski out access during the winter season with easy access to ski lifts and the ski school. Lost Lake, biking trails and the village are just minutes away.

Classy, clean and great location

We (couple) stayed for 15 nights in January 2017 and found the condo to be clean, beautifully decorated and in a great position slope side on Blackcomb.

To address some concerns raised by previous reviewers I can report that the flat screen television was on a moveable arm and could face the lounge, dining or kitchen. There were mats near the entry for taking ski boots off and we had no issue with slippery floors. A good start of basic supplies was provided.

The short walk to Whistler was magical with a bridge over a picturesque creek and seasonal lights. However we didn't bother after a while as Blackcomb was more laid back and not as crowded. We found the short walk down the ski slope fine with decent après boots. The Aspens is the closest complex on the side of the wizard lift slope to the base.

Communication was prompt, polite and sufficient.

I would certainly recommend this condo as a great value option.

Location, Location, Location

After researching many places to stay for our Whistler trip, I booked for the first time via VRBO.

Pros

- Location - the condo's location is awesome - ski in/out on Blackcomb Mountain to the Wizard Express lift (located near the base - just pop on your skis and ski two minutes to the lift). Also, wonderful location in Upper Whistler which is quieter than in the main village and a magical walking distance to everywhere - Upper Whistler shops/restaurants - the Fairmont is a two minute walk - still bizarre walking on the ski run, but is safe since it's near the "orange slow caution fence for skiers alerting to slow down for the base/lifts/town - and fun place for apres ski, dinner and/or spa. I loved the magical walk (approx 15 min) to the main village with the beautiful Christmas lights everywhere - great exercise too!

- Nice Clean Condo - overall the unit was clean and liked the renovations - hardwood floors, the family room and eating area and had a comfortable king bed.

- Wifi - good

- Door Access Code - Love the digital access code vs a key for the room

- Friendly - Peter and Diane were very friendly and sweet leaving us Happy New Year bottle of wine

- Value - good value for a one bedroom, newly renovated ski in/out condo over the holidays

Areas of Improvement

- Communication - Mixed review - was excellent in the beginning in booking, and answering questions either via phone or e-mails, but we had some frustrations after arriving. For example, we were missing two king pillow cases and e-mailed that evening, but didn't hear back until 4 hours later - when we were asleep. I responded the following morning to their e-mail and inquired about a pad for the pull out as the mattress is very uncomfortable - thin and can feel the springs. After arriving back to our unit, I had not heard anything and called from the lobby and e-mailed that evening. We did receive the pillow cases the following evening and she said would stop by the next evening with blankets. I also asked if she can drop off an extra sheet for the pull out - never heard back - and never received the extra blanket or sheet. I also inquired about a humidifier - never heard back. To their defense, Diane did leave me messages on my cell, but I didn't receive until arriving in the states.

- Shower rod - fell twice and when arrived, curtain was sitting in the shower

- Ski rentals - share including contact info (it was confusing) in advance allowing us to receive on line discount

Great for us, but not for everyone.

Pros: If you want to be on the quiet Blackcomb side and have ski in ski out, this condo is a great value. The Fairmont is next door, so we visited there everyday. You walk out the condo door and the hotel's back entrance/exit is across the hall, down the stairs. After a couple of long Blackcomb ski runs, that back entrance is a welcome sight! If there is enough powder, you can ski to the back door steps. The swimming pool and hot tub are just outside the back door as well.

We can watch our kids play in the snow and make snowmen, from our window, while we sit in front of our fireplace. We didn't cook much, but the condo seem to have all the cooking stuff, including salt and pepper.

Cons:

The washer/dryer is not in the unit, which we would have realized, if we read the fine print.

The unit has been recently remodeled but the wood look vinyl was slippery, when you are wearing or putting on ski boots.

The sofa bed mattress was rather flat and the springs' impressions were showing. Okay for kids, but adults may have a problem.

The ski valet is not near the slopes, so even though we can hop over the patio railing and be on the slopes, we would have to go back 50 yards to the ski valet to get our skis.

The restaurants are limited compared to the Main and Lower Village. It is much more lively at the Main Village as well. It's about a 15 minute walk or $8 CAD taxi ride. The shuttle was free, although a $2.50 fare was posted. To catch the shuttle, you had to walk out to the street and up the hill.

The slope could be icy at night, so walking down to the restaurant or going to one of the villages could be slippery, as it was for us.

Peter could have been a little more proactive in communication. When you rent from a private party, one always wonders if the unit will be there when you arrive.

Next time we might prefer to stay in the Main Village area, so we can go to the nice restaurants, put our name down and come back in 1.5 hours. Also, if you are going for Whistler's First Tracks, it's easier to be over there. If you want a quiet experience and prefer to cook your meals, you should seriously consider Peter's condo.

I didn't downgrade the 5 stars, as the negatives are all personal preferences. I may have downgraded the sofabed, but although our kids felt the springs, but it didn't bother them.
