Given any city in the world, wherever you find real estate prices to be the highest, you are surely in the most sought-after place to be. Such is the reality of the St. Germain des Pres district on the Left Bank in the historic centre of Paris. For reasons that should become obvious once you are there, this particular area of Paris is the most desirable for many seasoned travelers who know Paris well. Here you have quiet courtyards, with history, beauty and convenience at your fingertips, and many major museums and monuments within a short walking distance of the flat: the Seine River is a couple of blocks down, the ORSAY MUSEUM is a 5 minute walk and if you add another couple of minutes, you can get to the LOUVRE MUSEUM by crossing the river. The fabulous location, combined with the modern amenities of this lovely, spacious flat, should be all that you need to experience living in Paris, content as a cat.
The area came to be called the ‘Pré aux Clercs’ (or Scholar’s Field), since it was where student intellectuals (an early meaning of the word ‘clerk’), went to relax, picnic and party, in defiance of the austere, disapproving monks who lived next door in the Abbey of St. Germain des Pres. How appropriate, you might say, to be staying in a place on a street that is symbolic of fun loving, carefree student life, for Paris is Pleasure, as we all know, and when you splurge on a flat like our ST GERMAIN PRE AUX CLERCS property, you are undoubtedly here to enjoy the best of what Parisian life has to offer. The space in the apartment is only one of the luxuries that you will come to partake, as you pamper yourself with well deserved indulgence in the finer things in life.
High above the street and accessible by elevator, in this particular haven of transparent space, with morning, then evening sunlight pouring in and an atmosphere of calm repose, you should consider yourself to be privileged to savor Parisian life at its best.
We had a last minute cancellation with another company and booked this apartment without too much research.. the location is great - easy walking distance to restaurants, monoprix, bus/train.. and siteseeing! Furnishings were decent - a little rough around the edges.. can tell that this doesn’t see an owners use, and it shows a bit.. broken drawers, handles, floor boards, and the electrical was an issue.. lots of bulbs out, but the loose wiring from the wall and areas where plugs aren’t working at all made the stay a bit tricky. Elevator is a 2 person luggage lift and the washer/dryer is really a washer with a spin dry/steam setting. Thankfully a decent amount of hangers for drying :). On the plus side - in unit water heater.. hot water was never an issue.. and the street is a quiet street around the corner from trendy St. germain.. All said - we would go back, but only if certain repairs were made.
The apartment is lovely, location couldn't be better, we walked everywhere, the louvre was only 5 min walk, we stayed confortable as a family of six. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you
Brilliantly located in a quiet street 100m off Boulevard St Germain, this charming rental will adequately accommodate a family of 4 or 5. It is as described in the owners advertising and I would rent again.
We stayed for 2 nights during our recent visit to Europe. Outstanding location to explore all of Paris. Walked to Louvre, Notre Dame, even the Catacombs and the Eiffel Tower. Steps from Ave St Germaine with restaurants and shops. Three blocks from the River Seine. Perfect location for our visit.
Unit comfortably slept a family of 5 with two bedrooms and a living room. Charming with tons of character. Felt like a home, not a rental. Exactly what you would want from a visit to Paris. Fourth floor with small lift for luggage. Quiet at night. Host connected with us leading up to the visit and had a colleague waiting for us when we arrived from London. Even brought orange juice for the kids! We could not have asked for a better unit. Wish we had stayed longer!
My two daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed this apartment. The location is ideal - on a quiet street just three blocks from the Seine, a grocery store around the corner, close to Boulevard Saint-Germaine, nice selection of cafes and rarely a tourist in sight. We felt like Parisians for a week!
The apartment is spacious with lots of windows, comfortable sofa, chairs and beds. The kitchen is compact and has all the kitchen items needed for cooking meals. The washer and dryer worked well, once we figured out how to work it. The bathroom with tub/shower was larger than expected. We found several multi-plug extension cords that were so helpful. We didn't mind the four flights of circular stairs, and the teeny, tiny elevator is quite the adventure!
The owner was wonderful to work with and provided specific details for check-in and check-out. Overall, an excellent apartment and I look forward to returning.
**One recommendation would be to repair the plugs in the bathroom. We managed without them, but it would be very helpful if they were working.
We loved the space. It's definitely homey but still is clean and minimal. I'd recommend providing newer, fresher towels, bedding and pillows and also fixing the two outlets in the bathroom that do not work. We also did not have access to extra toilet paper or paper towels.
Paris can offer about everything!
