About Jon Young

Owners Jon & Helene have been in hospitality for over 20 years. Jon is a restaurateur & chef, and Helene is an international flight attendant and a former Chicago Architectural Foundation river cruise docent.

Jon Young purchased this apartment in 1997

Why Jon Young chose Chicago

We have been neighborhood residents for 15+ years and have not only enjoyed raising a family while seeing a positive transformation of Chicago during that time, but also of the Roscoe Village neighborhood and its amenities. We own and operate two award-winning and acclaimed restaurants here, and realized we had the ideal setting for a bed & breakfast style vacation rental conveniently located right in the heart of our community.

What makes this apartment unique

Guests have immediate access to more than a dozen dining options to fit any budget, pretty sidewalk cafes & hidden backyard garden patios all just a few blocks away on Roscoe Street, as well as unique independently owned retail shops & boutiques (also a Starbucks nearby in a converted former Motorcycle Cafe 'The Ace Cafe').

Within walking distance there are family friendly parks, a baseball diamond, public pool, and a park district field house (offering tennis courts & a basketball court), as well as kayaking and canoeing nearby .

The neighborhood is extremely walk-able, upper-middle class and safe, has seen a wave of renovations over the last decade, the neighborhood also boasts a 100+ year old Pencil Factory that has been converted to lofts, with original factory-worker row houses still intact located on adjacent blocks.

Public transportation is super easy and just a half block away there is access to the Belmont Avenue Bus (access to the Red, Brown & Blue Lines), the Western Avenue Bus (Blue Line to Wicker Park/Bucktown & The Loop), plus the Addison Street Bus (direct to Wrigley Field - Home of the Cubs) just four blocks away.

If you visit us in the summer, Wrigley Field is just a two miles walk through residential neighborhoods and tree lined streets, filled with 100 year old + houses. The guest suite is also located a short walk from our wine bar, Volo. It is beautifully designed w/ an urban chic interior and rustic hidden backyard cabana garden in which we from time to time host weddings.

Additionally, directly across the street from Volo is our celebrated casual brunch spot, Kitsch'n On Roscoe. Decked out in colorful 1970's retro dinette sets, and filled with assorted retro and vintage decor, Kitsch'n has been featured in Bon Apetit Magazine and on $40 a Day with Rachel Ray.

Finally, in warmer months, you & your guests have private access to a beautiful shaded 600 sq. ft. garden patio w/table, chairs, grill & more.

Weekend getaway

A great place in a friendly neighborhood. It was clean, comfortable and didn't disappoint. The location and property were exactly as described. I would definitely recommend this rental. Breakfast at Kitsch'n in Roscoe Village was delicious. Don't miss out on brunch at the Turquoise Cafe on Sunday morning. Both are just a short walk from this property.

Great Location! Great Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at this property for a Cubs v Cardinals weekend. The property was about a 2 mile walk, or an easy Uber ride from Wrigley. The owner greeted us, and asked if we needed anything. The property was as described and was a great place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone, and would come back again.

Roomy, comfy and perfect for our visit!

  • 5 of 5

This rental was in a lovely neighborhood and we were able to park for free on the street. We walked to Wrigley Field with no problems and our Uber ride home was around $12 when we were too tired to walk home. The house was clean and had what I would call three bedrooms (not a den) because they all had doors and full beds in each of them. The air conditioning worked wonderful, and the neighbors were quiet. John was more than attentive to all of my questions and was very pleasant to work with. We would definitely stay here again with a large group. We would have had to rent two hotel rooms for all six of us and we were all able to stay here comfortably for half the price! Thank you!

Hip Roscoe Village Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic 1 week stay in a roomy, perfectly decorated, and clean well-appointed home. Perfect location to explore many of the great Chicago neighborhoods on foot and lots of on street parking available. Loved the 50's stylization, bright colors, super comfortable beds and linens, covered private deck and gorgeous shared garden. Proprietors Jon and Helene were timely and responsive to requests and questions before arrival and during entire stay and were so friendly and helpful. A very hot week with great indoor air quality and cool and comfortable space. It would be great to add some updated printed guides and some personal recommendations for restaurants, shopping and services. However, they generously provided gift cards for a few local establishments for food and drinks.

Note: toilet is very closely placed next to one wall of the bathroom and may not be comfortable/suitable for everyone's use.

We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to others, loved the entire stay. Great great experience!

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I were in town for the Pearl Jam shows at Wrigley. We were able to use the CTA from O'Hare to find the

House. Tip: If you fly in to O'Hare get a 7day CTA pass for $33.00. Chicago has a phenomenal transit system and it is easy to use. From the house it was super easy to catch a bus down to Wrigley. The house is located in a quiet but very active neighborhood. The area has a variety of restaurants and things to do. I suggest to take advantage of the great cafés and restaurants around Roscoe. Every place we ate at was tasty. There is also a Starbucks that's about a 5 minute walk away. The house was perfect for us and it had everything we needed for a short stay. It was spacious, clean and the beds were comfortable. I am seriously considering bringing my family here for an extended vacation. I would recommend staying here to any of my family and friends. This place greatly enhanced our stay in Chicago. It was nice coming back to a quiet place after a day of sight seeing or being in the huge crowds at Wrigley.
