|Minimum Stay||3 - 5 nights|
Winter - A skier's dream--walk 150 yards to Lift 3 and ski home to your door of the chalet's 1400 sq ft lower condo. Relax for après ski while viewing the slopes from the comfort of your spacious living room in the warmth of a wood fire in the grand stone fireplace. Or you might want to unwind in the Swedish sauna beforehand.
Summer - A hiker/mountain biker's dream! Big Mountain is at your doorstep, and Glacier National Park a mere 33 miles away by car.
Dine at home preparing your own delicacies in a well-equipped modern kitchen or eat out at one of Montana's finest restaurants, a five-minute walk away. You are only a couple minute's walk from the village, if you need to shop for ski equipment or local gifts to take home.
In winter, you might want to board the free 'Snowbus' shuttle to explore the town of Whitefish, offering great restaurants, bars, theaters, and shopping.
Finally calling it a day, you will sleep in comfort in either the king-bed master bedroom, the cozy double bedroom, or the twin-bedded room ensuring a good night's rest before hitting the slopes once again in the morning. There is a stackable washer/dryer in the entryway vestibule in case you need to do a load of laundry.
If you have a large group, please check out our upper condo, which also sleeps 6. It is property #335568.

My husband and I are flatlanders from Nebraska, but have always loved to ski--mostly in Colorado. When we retired we set out to find the perfect ski mountain. We visited different slopes in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.
Cynthia purchased this chalet in 2005
Big Mountain caught our attention as we experienced excellent skiing with no lift lines, friendly folks, and the perfect chalet duplex right on the mountain.
We stay in the upstairs unit with our two hunting dogs, Stilton and Storm several weeks each season, renting it out when we are elsewhere along with the lower unit year-round.
We love sharing the experience of living in a private home on the mountain in walking distance to the village, the slopes and all the winter and summer activities. Come stay--you'll love it too!
There are reasons this place is so inexpensive, and I will gladly pay more to someone else next time for a better maintained property.
This place needs lots of love. It looked 'blah' as soon as I looked at it. Paint is old and flaking, and worse, roof edges are exposed (not good in this location). Trash literally laid around on the ground, including ragged and sharp pieces of the metal roof and nails, and people have driven through the front yard so often there is an exposed plastic pipe in the ground. Inside is not any better: the exhaust fan in the master bathroom doesn't work (was told by owner it can't be fixed or words to that extent; I guess she doesn't know there are 'replacement fan units'), the mattress in the 'middle room' is waaaayyyy past it's use (to the extent that the couch was actually more comfortable), issues with the hall bathroom door (as stated by others), no screens on windows (since there is no a/c), horrible internet (even though it supposedly is there), and you most likely will be concerned about the structural safety of the entire back deck assembly when looking it from the back yard (and maybe from the inside glass door itself), let alone the eyesore of more trash and leftovers stuffed under the deck. I have no idea what was going on with the shower unit in the 'common use sauna area'; it was disgusting: some sort of toilet in a shower combination that was very dirty and filled with nastiness. The key container on the door is difficult to work when trying to put the keys back in at the end of your stay.
What could be a gem of a place is severely tarnished by lack of caring and safety maintenance from an out of state landlord.
The property location is perfect but there are many things that need to be repaired on this property. The outlets in both bathrooms are non operational so you will need to bring an extra long extension cord if you need to use a blow dryer. Also the bathroom door in the hall way does not open from the inside once it is shut. Someone will need to let you out or you must leave it ajar. There is no actual door handle on the front door only a pull handle and deadbolt that is very loose fitting. I do not believe this is safe or legal since the other tenants have access to this area because o the location of the sauna which we could not use because it was so dirty we could not stand to be in it. There was a dirty porta potty stuffed in the shower. Who ever cleans this property needs to make sure things are checked prior to each new tenant. The walls in the far bedroom next to the bathroom have something running down them and the floors tilt in every direction. Other than these things the place would have been perfect. The size is perfect for 6 people with ample room for everyone to move around comfortably. It is warm and cozy and would be really great for ski season. The kitchen is well equipped and within walking distance of good restaurant and a few things to do with the kids. I would stay here again just take a couple of extra cords.
We were fortunate to have the opportunity to stay at this house. The location is wonderful; right on top of the big mountain, not far
from downtown Whitefish. The house is quite large, and very well equipped. The owners are very friendly people.
I would highly recommend this place.
This property is located at the base of some ski slopes which is nice if you plan on hiking there. I also love that my dogs were welcome to stay with us, and they were very happy, too! The convenience store located within walking distance saved us at dinner time a couple of times.
Within the property itself, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were some basic supplies there like dishwasher detergent and laundry soap to help us keep things tidy during our stay. There was also some hand soap and shampoo. The kitchen had some seasonings and coffee.
The kitchen was pretty well stocked with appliances, pans, dishes and utinsels, although the pans were pretty old and beat up. Everything was very well organized, but some dirty dishes had been overlooked when put away. We had to scrub the frying pan, which looked like it had gone through the dishwasher but some gunk had stayed stuck on it. There was also a mixing bowl that had a lot of dried pancake batter stuck to the outside. We ended up washing all the dishes before using them as a precaution.
The living room was very cozy. The fireplace is nice and big and would make a terrific fire if you wanted one. There are lots of pillows and blankets to make the room feel very comfortable and homey. The DVD player didn't work for us, so hopefully the owners will get that replaced.
The bedrooms were all comfortable. There were plenty of pillows and the bedding was cozy. The free-standing closets gave us plenty of room to put our things away. Because there is no air conditioning, we found it necessary to sleep with the windows open. Screens on the windows would be nice to keep bugs out.
The bathrooms were not great. The good thing is they were very clean. However, the sinks are pedestal sinks, so there is no counter space at all for your bathroom items. The fan in the master bathroom doesn't work, nor did the electric outlets. My biggest concern was that the doorknob in the other bathroom was broken. You can open the door from the outside, but you cannot open it from the inside. Our kids got trapped several times before we finally stuffed the hole within the strike plate so nobody would get trapped in the bathroom.
Overall, the property was well worth the money. I would find it more appealing if the owners fixed the small, easy-to-fix issues, as they did stand out as inconveniences to us during our stay.
We really enjoyed the location. Had a deer 3 days behind place. Kitchen well equipped. Walking distance for shopping & enjoyed ski lift to top of mountain. Could use few more towels but was there 10 days.
Overall the property was in a sound condition in an excellent location - with a bit more snow it really would have been ski-in/ski-out. The customer service provided by both the owner and manager was good, and the property was well-cleaned on arrival. A few areas of the property are slightly 'tired' and could benefit from updating, but everything was fully functional and exactly as we expected. The addition of Wi-Fi in the chalet would be a real bonus, although a couple of hotspots were intermittently available - the lack of Wi-Fi made making bookings for other activities a little more time-consuming but it really wasn't a big deal.
As an area we would thoroughly recommend Whitefish for skiing/winter activities, and the Kandahar Lodge was an excellent choice for a very good dinner! We would definitely use the property again.
Glacier National Park's West Glacier entrance is 33 miles from the chalet.
