About James & Jackie Roberts

Currently residing in Tulsa, OK, we are an active family with two middle-school daughters. We love spending weekends and holidays at the Lodge with our personal family and friends every chance we get! We have watched our girls grow up building snowmen on the deck, swimming in the lake, exploring nature trails, and bringing in every creature and critter they've managed to catch!

We pray you will find the atmosphere of this property filled with love, grace and peace. Allow the healing power of God's beautiful design in nature to warm your heart and your soul. Rejuvenate. Relax. De-stress. Soak in every benefit that nature offers and enjoy our Lodge to the max!

James & Jackie Roberts purchased this lodge in 2006

Why James & Jackie Roberts chose Oklahoma

Opened in 2007, let us tell you why we chose to build this place of peace in the country ...

For 3 years (2005-2007) we were on the road working disaster relief for hurricanes and storms. We were rebuilding what nature took away. For those 3 years my wife and I were extremely busy - working full time, running our company, managing employees, and raising our 2 small daughters. We worked incredibly long hours, many times 7 days a week, and the pressures of exhaustion and stress took its toll.

Each year I was able to squeeze away for a weekend to hunt for 3 days at an outfitters lodge. Hunting is my refuge, my sanctuary, the thing I 'do' to get away from it all and REJUVINATE ... to reconnect with God in the most tranquil environment that He created. If not for those outfitters, I would have had 3 years with no hunting - and those weekends were priceless refuges of stress relief that were desperately needed due to the incredible work load we were managing at the time. Because of the outfitter, my wife and kids and I had time away from home to reconnect in beautiful surroundings, I got to hunt, and we all got to experience the joy of relaxing in nature with a much-needed 'get away from it all' weekend that was a necessity to push through the rest of the work year.

So while at the last outfitters we visited, we decided that we wanted to build one of these stress-busting retreats for others (hunters and non-hunters alike) to enjoy as well ... and as a result we created this place of relaxation and peace in the woods.

We want everyone to have an opportunity to take some time away with family and friends ... to relax, de-stress, rejuvinate and to simply have a good time! We have an amazing property with breath-taking views inside and out that causes you to ENJOY NATURE ... and ENJOY LIFE. Welcome to Roberts Retreat ... our 'Lodge'!

What makes this lodge unique

We have found that the morning sun rises and evening sun sets over the lake are exquisite! This property truly is a HIDEAWAY. It offers peace and privacy like very few other places offer. We've tried to think of amenities we could provide that would make one's stay for any occasion specific & personal... Can't stay away from the internet? We can offer you a wifi package. Want to try your hand at fishing but don't want to invest in the equipment? We can offer you fishing tackle and boat rental. Want to enjoy an afternoon of kayaking on the lake? We've got a 2-person kayak to rent as well. Perhaps there's a child's party to consider during vacation? Rent our indoor bouncy house! Planning a wedding or romantic getaway? We have an exclusive offer for a private master bedroom boasting a king size bed, lazy-boy chair, quaint fireplace, and private en-suite with jacuzzi tub and oversized double rain shower. (This room is not advertised or included with the main rental so ask us about this special add-on rental.)

We hope we are able to cater to your specific needs and make your stay with us a time you'll always remember ... and keep you longing to return!

The good, the bad, the ugly

  • 3 of 5

The 400 acres is amazing, and the lodge is fine--but could use some dusting and maintenance. We had issues with the kitchen and the lack of some items listed on the brochure (no blender so no margaritas), one oven would not work and the other one needs calibration, etc. We paid for WiFi but it was not working when we arrived, so my son-in-law finally had to help the lady who came to fix it fix it because she had no clue what was wrong. The paid-for boats were not at the dock where they were supposed to be, so my son-in-law again had to find them and haul them over. The automatic skeet launcher was broken and never fixed while we were there. The hot tub was full of leaves as well both spent and live shells. The grandkids loved stomping around the woods and paddling the boats. If you go fishing, bring your own gear because only one I paid for would cast and do not expect a motor on the fishing boat.

The back window overlooking the lake is amazing and the Christmas tree was beautiful. Overall, we had a good time (especially the 8 grandkids), but we will probably book a property in Palm Springs next year for our family Christmas vacation.

Owner's Response: These guests must have thought they were booking at the Four Seasons because they complained about everything - much more to me personally via text than they even wrote here. People have to remember that this property is located in the woods. There are bugs and dust and leaves and dirt. When prior guests break things and don't report it to us, we may not discover it immediately and may not know something needs replaced or repaired until another guest lets us know. We ask that everything is reported but unfortunately often it is not. That was the case here with the blender and the skeet shooter. If guests let us know their plans and ask specifically about items then we can check on those things and make sure everything is in order before they arrive. We immediately came out and provided hand throwers for the skeet which the guests said were fine. Both ovens work fine to cook but the digital display is going out. The wifi was recently upgraded and the passcode changed unknowingly by the provider, but that was the only issue which was figured out immediately and the internet was working fine for them the entire time. The fishing boats were exactly where we always keep them, it is this guests assumption that they should have been put somewhere else. This guest was so rude by text that her husband even apologized to me on her behalf. I understand that some guests forget that this is a rental by owner, not a commercial property, and they have expectations as such. We do our absolute best for each quest to thoroughly enjoy their stay at our property and provide the amenities that we advertise. As you can see by most of the other reviews and comments, that is our standard and some people you simply cannot please.

Mountain Lodge in the heart of Oklahoma

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to put into words the beauty of this place, from the panoramic views of the hills and pond (14 acres so more of a lake) to the floor to ceiling windows that make up the South wall of the great room, this place will not disappoint. Fishing was great, I caught 21 mostly large mouth bass and two giant crappie, my wife caught 2 bass that weighed around 3 lbs. Being able to walk out the door and down to the boat dock, jump in a boat and go is effortless. The only thing I would have changed is that I wish we would have booked a longer stay!

Beautiful, Comfortable Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Roberts Retreat Lodge is well-appointed and has many amenities that made our stay enjoyable! Our group of 22 enjoyed making meals in the spacious kitchen, sitting on the deck and enjoying the scenery, and cozy time in the living room. The hot tub was a nice treat and we were fortunate to have gorgeous weather over the weekend!

We certainly hope to be back next year. Owner responds promptly to emails and is available to make sure guests enjoy their stay.

I'm not sure I can adequately explain how fantastic this property was. We had 20 Iraq War veterans spend a weekend reunion here, and it could not have been any better. The cabin itself is so spacious and luxurious. The private lake was serene. The secluded location wasn't too difficult to find. The kitchen was big enough to cook for 20. The owners were very pleasant and the person who rents out ATVs was as well. Whether it's a quiet time with your family or a rowdy weekend with all your old war buddies, this place is perfect.
