About Ed Miller

Becca and I were able to take our two boys, Russell(12yrs) and Joseph(10yrs) and move back 'home' to Boone in 2010. We wanted our boys to grow up in a rural area where they could grow and explore.

Ed Miller purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Ed Miller chose Boone

This property was sold in 1957 by Ed's Grandfather to a school teacher in Florida for a price 'no one would take'. 53 yrs later Ed and Becca were able to buy the property back and turn in to weekend/short term rentals. The property is nestled in 200 acres of family farmland. With a creek, waterfalls, and plenty area to just roam, it is a great place to just get away. The original Cabin was made from the same logs that came from the cabin Ed's dad was born in in 1924. It is a cozy place where you can just relax. Just 12 minutes from Boone, you are also close to the many activities the high county has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

The trails will lead you into the woods where you find a creek that will sooth you body and mind. The creek offers many opportunities for both young and old. With a waterfall, places for children to explore, and space for adults to reflect and relax. From the front porch you can look over the valley of Howard's creek while watching the sun rise.

Great Memories!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at the cabin! Took us back in time. It was very comfortable and clean they even had fixings for smores, which we had two times. Yummy!! We loved the dogs that hung out with us. Grandkids were sad to say goodbye to them. Watched the cows in the pasture and seen a deer run across the property. I would definitely recommend staying here. It was an experience that we will not forget.

You feel like you are back in time

  • 5 of 5

This is just a sweet little cabin that is tucked away on a farm. While you are there you feel as though you are back in time. There are cows in the pasture next to you and we also saw deer and turkeys. If you want to go into town you are just a few miles away from all sorts of things to do. The dogs Oreo and Oscar are also super nice. We will be returning.

Peaceful paradise in a woodsy location close to town and everything a family of 4 could want!!!

  • 5 of 5

The 6 nights we spent in this cabin will never be forgotten, so much in fact that we plan on staying here again, which we have never done on a vacation.(we always try new spots). The setting is so wonderful with plenty of room in the cabin, a giant front yard and a creek/small warerfall walkable on the property. My daughters(3 and 6) played in the creek twice catching fish and crabbies. The girls wre obsessed with the super friendly dogs that were around all week and the 3 cows beside the cabin. The calf was 4 days old when we arrived so we got to see it grow up a lot in 6 days, running, bucking and trying to latch onto momma from all sorts of angles, hah. Fireflies and night were in the 100's, and didn't rain once so we got a light show every night. We didn't even use the loft, to stay all together in the huge spare living space added onto the cabin. The loft would be clutch for extra guests or parents tho. All the needed amenities were inside, the owners super polite and helpful from the moment we booked it. Boone is just minutes away, 3 awesome water Falls nearby(we hit Elk River and Laurel Creek(Aka Trashcan) Falls west and north of the cabin. Both you can swim in to cool off, and beautiful quick drive (20-40 min). Tubing at Wahoo was a great way to spent a day with a beer in hand floating down a little river near Todd(20 min northeast). Highly recommend Sky Valley Skip Tours for kids zip line course. Totally worth the $40, my almost 6 year old was obsessed! The firepit and wood around the property was nice at night too, did that twice.

The price on his cabin and itself can't be beat! No A/C is needed downstairs or when sleeping(60 every night). It may have had cable(saw a satellite) but we never turned the tv on... cell phone reception was perfect for calls, videos and Pandora all wknd(phone and IPad). No prob at all, so internet connection wasn't needed! This is the perfect mountain getaway for 2-8 people+). We also brought air mattresses, cause they are so dang comfy, but wife enjoyed the pullout couch every night so did the kids. That extra room has space!!!! Also.... they take care of the garbage for you, picking up each bag, that you just have to text to let them know....

Thee ONLY small gliche is the small hot water tank. When showering don't turn it on full bore or can run out quickly....

Thank you so much Ed/family and Oreo/Oscar(dogs were a delight and I am not a dog person, my girls and wife are tho)

Rustic charm close to town but miles away

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is rustic but clean. The area surrounding it is secluded. If you are searching for a place to escape the hustle of modern day this is the place.

On the other hand you can be in Boone or Blowing Rock within minutes. Elk Knob State Park is minutes away also.

For the price and what we needed this weekend it was perfect.

120 years of charm came shining through!

  • 5 of 5

We planned to spend a few days with our son and his family, have the other family members who live close by come over for an afternoon visit, and just spend some quality time with the grandchildren. It happened, and it was wonderful! The rustic cabin is big enough to give everyone room to relax, yet warm and cozy when you're all together. We enjoyed the yard and the children had room to run and play. It was so lush and green, and the happy cows next door were fun to watch. We had sparklers and made s'mores one evening, and loved waking up to the sound of so many birds. The owners were out of town, and still took the time to arrange for a very caring person to attend to our needs. We are thankful for the time we spent in Boone, and for the opportunity to enjoy the cabin.
