We had a nice couple of family nights at this cabin. We enjoyed fishing off the dock - the kids caught tons of crappies and sunnies! We had a bonfire for roasting marshmallows and drove only 40 minutes to see the headwaters of the Mississippi and Lake Itasca. Good place to stay for a bargain, John was very welcoming, but let us be on our own and we felt as though we were at home. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was fully equipped. Thanks for a great stay!
If you're looking for a cabin that's away from the city riff-raff this place is for you. Located about 20 miles from Park Rapids it's a nice getaway from the metro. There's a grill, dock and paddle boat. Beds are comfortable and furniture is solid. Water is a bit weedy near the dock but other than that, the water is perfect for swimming and not weedy at all if you plan to swim out. Tons of fish by the dock too.
The things I didn't like about the cabin was that it was there was a lot insects near the door, mostly ants. They were crawling all over the place when we used the grill and were able to get in the house. The water was also very smelly (as others have noted) but if you bring your own water jugs you're fine. The driveway going down was not ideal, there was humungous pot holes everywhere. You seriously have to go like 5mph down it so you don't avoid damaging/losing a tire.
Overall it was a nice play though, not perfect but it fulfilled what I was looking for.
My husband and I booked this property as a weekend get-away to celebrate his birthday. The drive from the Twin Cities was easy and enjoyable. The email notification we received prior to arriving provided us all the details about how to get to the cabin, lock box code, wi-fi password, owners phone number etc. which made it very easy. Due to excessive amount of rain a few days earlier, when we arrived, we found part of the deck under water. We called the owner and he very quickly arrived and resolved the problem. The cabin was clean, comfortable and was exactly what we were looking for. The ability to rent a boat was a bonus as it added to the fun of fishing. We caught well over 200 fish (although small), it made for an exciting weekend of fishing for me, my husband and daughter. We would definitely rent this property again!
Three of us lifelong girlfriends stayed for a weekend getaway, and had a fantastic time!!! The cabin had a "rustic" feel, was larger than the pics portrayed, and was nice and clean. We were also lucky to have the place to ourselves- no upstairs renters. Yep, the water was smelly, but we brought our own so no biggie. The outdoor area, and the lake itself was breathtaking!!! We met some of the neighbors, as well as one of the owners- very friendly and welcoming! I'm sure our laughter could be heard a mile away...great memories made!!
A group of friends and I rented this cabin for a fun weekend away. It was perfect, close enough to some towns to go visit but there was enough to do at the cabin to spend our time there.
The main complaints would be that the water smelled like rotten eggs, the only bathroom is in one of the bedrooms, and the driveway is washing out making it hard for our van to get through.
The good things... It has a great view of the lake, there were lots of hummingbirds to watch by the feeders, and the living areas are large with room to spread out.
We stayed for a Friday and Saturday night. We spent most of our day at Itasca State Park exploring and did not make use of the beach area due to weather. I'd recommend bringing your own water for drinking / cooking. The There were plenty of dishes and cookware in the cupboards and everything was in working order. It could just use a little TLC. There is a rental unit above the cabin so you will hear people walking around. The campground is literally 10 yards from the cabin so it is not secluded as it appears in the pictures. All the campers/renters were very respectful though.
