|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Clean*, cozy cottage on the southern (NY) shore of Lake Ontario -enjoy gorgeous sunsets and a view of Toronto from the backyard. Close to Niagara Falls and Buffalo, too.
The cottage is fully and comfortably furnished and equipped for everything you'll need to enjoy your stay, whether it's for two nights or two weeks, including stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee-maker, and linens/towels, kitchen paper products and laundry detergents. Updated kitchen, bamboo flooring in most rooms, ceiling fans in living room and two bedrooms. Additionally, there's free Wi-Fi, a TV, gas grill, and washer and dryer. Of special interest to fishermen, we have a chest freezer and room to park your boat trailer - we're just a few miles from boat launches and marinas.
The cottage can sleep 5, with a double bed in bedroom 1, 2 single beds in bedroom 2, and 1 single in bedroom 3. All mattresses a less than a year old - and the sheets are new, too!
Great location between Wilson and Olcott , near Niagara Falls and Buffalo, Niagara County wine trail, Artpark concerts, and world-class fishing and boating. 30 minutes from bridge to Canada.
*How clean is "clean"? We may miss the occasional dust bunny (those things are sneaky!), but here's what we do between guests: wash ALL used bed lines, including mattress covers and blankets; clean and disinfect shower, toilet, sink, medicine cabinet and wash bath mat and towels; wipe out kitchen cabinets and fridge, stove and oven, microwave; wipe out dresser drawers; dust all furniture in bedrooms and living room; sweep and wash all floors; wipe/disinfect all door knobs; sweep back porch (we try to wash it, too, but that doesn't always happen). Periodically, we also wash the windows and dust the fan blades and whatever else we notice. My own house should be so clean!
Caveat emptor: We have had absolutely NO COMPLAINTS from ANYONE about any of these (or, frankly, about anything else!), but in the interests of full disclosure, here are some things we think you should know before you reserve. 1. You cannot access the lake shore from the property; we sit up on a bluff. You have limited lake views from the cottage itself; you need to walk out into the yard to really view the lake - but what a view! And you're welcome to bring some chairs or blankets out and lounge around out there to enjoy the sunset or the boats. 2. We live nearby on the property; we believe we're pretty unobtrusive, though, so hopefully you'll have all the privacy you want, while having the added advantage of a readily available source of local knowledge. 3. Our grandkids are sometimes over; we keep them penned up inside until a reasonable hour, then limit their activities near you - unless you have kids their ages; then they'll be sure to hang around where they're easily visible in hopes of having someone new to play with. 4. The cable TV reception isn't fantastic. It's there, you can watch it, but it's kid of grainy. We have some good DVDs, though! That's all!
The cottage was wonderful, had everything our family of four needed for a comfortable stay. Thank you!
We came across this cottage for a family reunion close to cottages with other family members. We were extremely pleased. The cottage was so clean, cozy and had all the comforts of home. We loved the porch facing Lake Ontario where the sunsets were spectacular, especially with the skyline of Toronto showing. My husband and brother really enjoyed talking with Paul. There are plenty of games and toys for kids if you bring a family. Both Dawn and Paul are quick to get back with you regarding questions. Information on the VRBO mobile app site is thorough. We hope to return to this lovely cottage when we could actually spend more time there. We spent most of our time away from it with family outings and such. I would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you so much Dawn & Paul !!
My daughter and I enjoyed a two-night mini vacation in this quaint little cottage. The owners really did think of everything that one would need during a stay there; everything from a very well equipped kitchen to body soap/shampoo & a hair dryer that someone may have forgotten to bring. The cottage was immaculately cleaned and kept, appeared to have a fresh coat of paint, warm decor, beautiful flooring and the outside very well maintained. We most often enjoyed the back porch as well as the picnic table with beautiful views of the sunset over Lake Ontario (you're about 100 yards from the lake). Even though the cottage is on the landlords' property, they are very discreet and cautious not to disturb anyone, although my daughter and I enjoyed speaking with Dawn and her husband and enjoyed the grandchildren as well, which I might add they are quick to be sure their outside play isn't done where tenants are enjoying the property (not that we minded at all). Dawn and her husband have obviously went to great lengths to landscape nicely and we enjoyed the flower boxes that are full of beautiful flowers now. Just a few minute drive down the road is the little town of Olcott, which has a few quaint little shoppes and a great ice cream place also. The area is a "slow area" and just right if you don't want the hustle and bustle of a big city. The great thing is, if you do want more action, you're only a 30-45 minute drive from that. We will return to this cottage! Many, many thanks to the Rougeux family for a memorable stay!
We absolutely loved our stay at Dawn and Paul’s cottage. It was easy to find, the cottage was very clean and very well maintained, and our access to the grill (especially for two people from NYC) was a real treat. The pantry was stocked with condiments, which made it easy for us to only pick up our actual meal items from the store. Even though the cottage is on the property of the main house, we had access to the rest of the yard (front and back), which made for good running space for our 3 ½ year old and allowed us to catch the sunset from the far end of the lawn one evening. The hosts manage a great balance of getting to know us and leaving us to have our own time to vacation.
As parents, we would recommend this rental to other parents with children. The room with two twin beds was equipped with toys (blocks, a trainset, and board games) that our child loved to play with. Dawn and Paul's grandkids even came for a visit, and they shared a number of their own outdoor toys with our child. They had a good time and we had a good time meeting and speaking with our hosts.
We’d definitely recommend this place to others.
A very nice cottage on the greatest of the great lakes - Ontario. We travel to the area fairly often and have been searching for a place like this to stay for a few years. You can easily see the lake from the porch and the windows in the living room. The cottage is super clean and tidy. It is nicely laid out.
The owner provided basic supplies for the kitchen - including coffee filters and sugar and creamer. Washer dryer is also available which is convenient. There is no dishwasher, but other than that the kitchen has full supplies - stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc.
The cottage is 3 miles from downtown Wilson, NY and conveniently located to Buffalo, Lewiston and Niagara Falls. We went over to Canada to visit Niagara on the Lake and the drive over to customs to cross the border only took about 30 minutes via the scenic route thru Lewiston. Don't forget your passports if you plan to go into Canada.
Dawn the owner was quick to respond to inquiries. She sent directions to the cottage promptly, answered questions, etc and we had no problem finding it. We had a little trouble with the internet access while there which was quickly fixed. Dawn has prepared a very nice book with information about local restaurants and attractions and has a good supply of maps and brochures available for guests to use.
We are familiar with the area, but this trip went to a few new wineries on the Niagara Wine Trail and also revisited Gold Hill State Park and Wilson-Tuscora Park which are both close by. Since we were there in November they were 'closed' to camping, but they allow hiking in the off-season. Both are beautiful parks.
Western NY has a lot to see and do - spectacular scenery and historic sites are everywhere and shopping is close-by. This cottage is a great home base for relaxing and sight seeing. Very pleasant. We hope to stay there again sometime.
5 minutes to fishing, sailing, boating, Niagara County Wine Trail, kayak/boat launches and marinas, playgrounds, public tennis courts, swimming, and beachfront shops. 10 minutes to craft brewery, good restaurants. Within 30 minutes of wonderful pick-your-own farms, golf courses, historic Erie Canal and Lockport Caves, Fort Niagara, Underground Railroad sites, art/crafts and music festivals, shops, even more restaurants, antiquing, bridge to Canada and live theater at the Shaw Festival. 40 minutes to Niagara Falls, prime outlet shopping, casinos.
Kids 16 and under no additional charge. Don't put them in as additional guests - just include a message to me.
