About the property

Private, Tranquil, Comfortable 4 Bedroom, 3 Bath With View of the Taos Mountain.

We are leaving VRBO. To make a reservation search for Casa Taos in Taos, NM. The last renters broke our agreement by bringing pets who were not house trained and the owners did not clean up after them. The renters also brought extra people and left the house in a mess. This was a far different experience than we've had with VRBO renters. In addition, they caused damage to the property so we decided to withhold their deposit. VRBO took the deposit out of our account against our wishes, and then charged us a $25 fee. Our experience has led us to believe that VRBO does not advocate for renters. We've had many great guests and are sad to say goodbye to you.

Future guests can find us on line by doing a search for Casa Taos in Taos, NM.

Betty Artes and Daniel Escalante are offering their home in a quiet and peaceful setting for groups of up to twelve guests who want to get away from their regular surroundings for retreats, workshops or family gatherings. Casa Taos is just minutes from the Taos Plaza, skiing, rafting, hiking, sightseeing, and more.

Please note: Damage deposit does not refer to only broken items. Damage refers to disrespecting the environment by leaving trash on the grounds, bringing pets or extra guests (without prior approval), or smoking tobacco on the premises. Please contact me if you have questions about this.

Casa Taos has a large, fully equipped kitchen, a round dining table that seats twelve people, two large decks, a view of the Taos Mountain, small river along one border, an horno and BBQ, a large fire pit, and several hammocks around the property make it a very comfortable place to stay.

Includes cable TV, wifi, television, vcr, built in sound system, and cell phone service.

Downhill skiing is within 45 minutes and cross country skiing is much closer.

Please note, during snow season, you will need at least front wheel drive and good snow tires for the Taos area dirt roads. The short road that leads to our driveway is steep but well traveled.

The minimum nights requirement can be negotiated.

About Daniel Escalante

We are committed to living a lifestyle that is in harmony with the earth. We recycle, re-use, and re-purpose as much as we can. We ask that all guests do the same while at Casa Taos. We have an organic garden and compost from the house is used to help fertilize the garden. Betty was born in Argentina and grew up in New York. She is an ex educator and restaurant owner. Daniel was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is folk artist and consultant who provides training and facilitation. Their dream is to provide an inviting, comfortable place for visitors.

Daniel Escalante purchased this house in 2012

Why Daniel Escalante chose New Mexico

The house is set in a peaceful valley that is lush much of the year. It's peaceful energy was a major reason for purchasing the property. The largely unspoiled, rural setting makes for a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

What makes this house unique

Casa Taos is less than an hour from all downhill ski areas. Cross country skiing is even closer! People who stay here love hanging out in one of the several hammocks, in the swing by the acequia, at the large fire pit, looking at beautiful views from all windows, dining on one of the two large decks, or taking advantage of wheelchair accessible living quarters. This property is unique!

First off, it said the house is 3100 sq ft, it is smaller than that. No central heat, the house got cold at night. It got about 40 degrees at night so you can't sleep. The water pressure for shower was terrible. Water actually trickled out of the shower heads. One thing after the others, the dish washer doesn't work. The microwave doesn't work properly as well. The gas gas grill out on the deck doesn't work. The house sleeps 14, but you can't sleep on the upper bunk bed(2) because there was no safety rails, so you could virtually fall off. There were horses everywhere. They managed to get near the house, so you have to herd them off. There was horse poopy everywhere. The roads that led into the house was steep and dangerous, but we were lucky because there was no snow or ice on the dirt roads. I rated this house one star because we had a terrible time at this house.

Owner's Response: Hi Mark We're very sorry that your stay at our home wasn't enjoyable. We don't understand why there were so many difficulties. Nothing like this has ever come up with all the guests we've had! If you had called us at the number we provided, we would have gladly taken care of any problems very quickly. I'm sorry if this was not clear in the communications we had and the Guest Book that was provided. On your next visit we would be happy to offer special rates, even different than the 30% discount that we gave you. Please feel free to call me if you'd like to talk. Have a great day. Daniel

We had a wonderful time. The kitchen and dining areas were the highlights of our visit..

The owners were very attentive and helped us feel welcomed to their home. We loved the location and being secluded on beautiful property. We traveled to ski and the drive was about 40 minutes, mainly getting through Taos. The home worked out well for the nine of us. Thanks again Daniel and Betty.

Magical stay at Casa Taos

  • 5 of 5

Daniel and Betty are the ultimate hosts! We spent a family girls weekend with them and their cheer and hospitality is still keeping us warm. They cooked meals for us, taught those interested to use an horno (outdoor traditional clay oven), shared recipes, introduced us to a local artist, and helped us plan outings to sights in the area. I am already thinking of the many ways to enjoy Casa Taos - from retreats with groups to family trips to a quiet weekend getaway. I understand that if you don't need all the pampering, or just want privacy, you can just rent the house... It is so well organized and comfortable, that would be easy too. I highly recommend Casa Taos, and can't wait to go back!

Peaceful beauty in Taos

  • 5 of 5

We attended a retreat at Casa Taos and found it the perfect spot for focusing on thankfulness, Nature's beauty and personal reflection, not to mention problem solving and brain storming. The back deck is amazing: early morning birds, Taos Mountain straight ahead, a cup of wonderful coffee (ready at 6:00-ish) and quiet. Then there was THE breakfast each morning from caring, wonderful hosts who go all out to get your day started perfectly. The great room/kitchen area are perfect for sharing conversation, cooking, eating and just being. Can't recommend it highly enough--treat yourself here!

Like Going Home

  • 5 of 5

My 13-year-old grandson and I just spent 3 days and 2 nights at Casa de Taos. He especially liked the hammocks, where he could hang in his "cocoon" and hear the river close-by. I loved the large back deck, overlooking Taos Mountain, where I could do yoga, sit, and Just Be in the Quiet. LovelyLandLovelyHomeAwayFromHome <3

Great Getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at Casa Taos on a girls trip and a family reunion. Casa Taos fulfilled all of our needs and went beyond our expectations. The view is awesome and the environment is peaceful, a place to relax and have lots of FUN! My favorite spot is right in the backyard off of the river bank, a great place to soak up nature. The host are the nicest people you will ever get to meet and spend time with...it was a Treat!!
