About Chloe Good
Hello, our names are Chris and Chloe and we live in Vancouver BC with our two children. We first came to Ometepe Island in 2010 during a family vacation to Nicaragua. Having traveled extensively, Chris arranged the holiday to include time in Granada, San Juan Del Sur, Ometepe, and the Corn Islands. While all of our time in Nicaragua was beautiful, Ometepe Island instantly captured our hearts and imagination. The friendly people and stunning scenery never left our thoughts and after returning home to Canada, we dreamed of ways to return to that sense of paradise. Two years ago we began building that dream. Inspired by our stay on Ometepe, we wanted to build a home that would be suitable for other travellers to enjoy having experienced limited variety in accommodations at the time of our stay. We completed construction and were so excited to spend our first holiday in our new home this year. We are equally excited for the opportunity to share the amazing experience of the island with other travellers looking for a home base for their next adventure.
Chloe Good purchased this House in 2012
Why Chloe Good chose Ometepe Island
During our search for property on the island, we looked at many wonderful places thanks to our friend and property manager, Sam Bauer. What we liked most about this property was the size and location. There are many beautiful place on the island, but travel is not so easy and we wanted to be close enough to experience access to town as well as plan day trips from the island to the mainland. This property also offered a blank canvas to build a family friendly home in a serene and beautiful setting.
What makes this House unique
This home’s location is fantastic and even on the hottest days, there is a breeze that travels throughout the property. Huge mango trees and palm trees made it easy to fall in love with the land. Now that the house is finished, it is amazing to sit on the porch and look out over the property and we are so delighted that the monkeys still come through almost every night! The open design of the house is wonderful, with the three bedrooms offering a closed space to escape to. Chloe was particularly involved in the design of this 'no bug zone' area of the house : ) We have been very fortunate to find our hard working grounds keeper Joey, who lives on site to manage the day to day property needs. Living on an elevated property in combination with city water levels that fluctuate, means that daily maintenance of the water supply is crucial, particularly in the dry season. Joey does an excellent job of making sure this happens. We have also been very fortunate to connect with Sam Bauer, Ometepe’s top selling real estate agent. Sam is a capable trustworthy longstanding resident of Ometepe, who also provides ongoing oversight for the development and rental of our property. With our connections to the island community, we feel very confident that our guest’s needs will be met.
Outside only though please.

Beautiful place on large property alive with wild monkeys, squirrels & birds, great looking roosters, hens (we had fresh eggs every day) and pool with ghecko's aplenty! Very close to township, great for walking to for dinners but not so good when celebrations with disco music all night are in order. Two nights out of our 3 night stay the music went well into the night, the second night was not quite as loud. Sam was accessible to all our needs and Joey was always eager to make our stay enjoyable.
Only one complaint on the lack of pillows for the beds otherwise we would return to this Ometepe Paradise any time.
Amazing property and location
This was the second time we have rented this property and once again it didn’t disappoint. This year the new pool was in and was an awesome addition to an already perfect Ometepe rental. The house has everything you need and more, is clean, close to everything in Moyogalpa and easy to find from the ferry there. Jose, the caretaker is awesome and has become a dear friend. You won’t find a better place for a comfortable and affordable stay while on the island.
Thanks again Mark for the kind review and your stay! we'll be in touch for next year if you make it down.
Casa near center city of Moyogalpa. Space outside to relax. Joey is always ready to please you.
I nice place to stay
A great place to relax
Lovely home with a very well-equipped kitchen & and nice pool to relax in after a hot & muggy day on the island. It has a rural feel to it although it is on the edge of town and a short walk to stores and resturants.Sam and Joey were great and very helpful. If you need a relaxing place to stay, this is it.
The Howler monkeys and daily cattle drive are an added plus.
We are a family of 5 including 2 small children and we loved it here. Lots of space inside and out for the kids to run and find critters at night. The pool was a hit with the little ones. Walking into town was easy. One negative was that the parrots by 2 of the 3 bedrooms started yelling "Hola!" at 4:30-5am, which then got the roosters going. So bring ear plugs! And there was no hot water either so prepare for cold showers. On the other hand, I had reassurance that the tap water was fine, so we all drank it and didn't get sick.
If you want to go to Maderas (hiking up the volcano or San Ramon falls) or Santo Domingo beach, it's at least a 45 minute ride to them due to the location of the house and that there is only 1 road on the island. Speaking of which, this is an island so supplies are somewhat limited. My son is picky and only eats certain foods, peanut butter bring one of them and there was none to be found in the grocery stores. Just something to keep in mind if you traveling to Ometepe with a picky water.
Finally, Sam was very helpful, but Jose (or Joey to the gringos!!) was absolutely the best. He brought tea over to us, gave us samples of the rare honey he himself harvested. Every morning he cleaned out the pool, and he works well into the evening tending to the property. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
5 adults/2 generation
We spent 4 nights in the house with our son, his partner and a friend. Aside from the mosquitos, it was perfect. We had great day trips, relaxing time in the house, great help from Jose and Sam, loved hanging out in the pool, and enjoyed evening strolls into town for dinner. Would highly recommend this house. The mosquitos are just part of Nica life.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Bummer about the bugs! I always have problems with the little black flies at dawn and dusk. Dont they know you are on vacation?
Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.
