About Bob Hill

My wife and I are outdoor enthusiasts and active hikers, bikers, and skiers. We enjoy spending time with friends and family and plan to organize some great vacations in Tahoe. Our 10 year plan is to retire and live in the home.

Bob Hill purchased this house in 2014

Why Bob Hill chose North Upper Truckee

South Lake Tahoe is one of our favorite places, besides being the place we got engaged it also offers an incredible variety of area attractions, from the natural beauty of Emerald Bay to the nightlife and shows at the casinos, all within a 15 minute drive. We bought this home as a future place to retire, so a quiet setting in a great neighborhood was very important to us. The home itself is located towards the end of a cul-de-sac on a lightly traveled street, with many of the lots under protection from the California conservancy (basically undeveloped/natural areas). The home also backs directly to the national forest and is a short 5 minute walk through the trees to the Upper Truckee river, which is absolutely beautiful and has great hiking/biking trails just alongside. The neighborhood is on virtually flat land, which becomes more important after a heavy snowfall , and both front and back yards are only slightly sloped and offer a great place for relaxing and outdoor entertainment. We love this place and we hope you will too.

What makes this house unique

We saw a lot of very nice properties during our search but there were probably 3 or 4 things that really made this one stand out for us. Probably the biggest single factor was the location. Having a home that backed to national forest where we could walk out the back door, through the back yard and forest to the river in just a few minutes was really amazing. We know it's not our land..but it sure feels like it when we're back there hiking around. Privacy was another important factor. We like having neighbors, but don't want to stand on the back deck and look into their back yard, or worse. This home sits back from the street further than the home to our right, to our left is a conservancy lot, and behind is the forest, so when you're out on the deck or in the hot tub, the view is forest and sky. Very relaxing. And finally the home itself, we wanted an open style home with lots of windows and second floor living. This quality home was built by an excellent area builder and has a master bedroom/bath, 2nd bedroom, laundry room and guest bath (w/shower) all on the main floor in addition to a large and inviting living/dining/kitchen great room with a beautiful river rock fireplace, a back wall full of windows, and a huge upper deck.

Skiing and fishing. Bike trails and baccarat. Ice skating and fine dining. Whatever your passion South Lake Tahoe is a great place to vacation.

Welcome to a place with enough around-the-clock awesomeness to keep you playing all day and partying all night, all on the shore of the largest alpine lake in North America - Lake Tahoe. With its clear water surrounded by the majestic Sierra Nevada, jaw-dropping vistas, stately groves of pines, and gorgeous sunsets, Lake Tahoe is an alpine paradise.

Home Proximity to area attractions:

Heavenly Ski Resort (California Base) 8 miles

Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort 7 miles

Lake Tahoe 8 miles

Stateline Casinos 10 miles

The property itself is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood away from the crowds but within a 10-15 minute drive of area attractions (skiing, lake, golf, casinos, shopping + restaurants). The home backs directly to the national forest and one of the first things we'd recommend is a short 5 minute hike down to the river. It's absolutely beautiful and the trails alongside stretch for miles and miles into Washoe State Park. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as martens, coyotes and the occasional black bear (no grizzlies in the area).

We'd also recommend checking out Emerald Bay and D.L. Bliss State Parks. Eagle Falls at Emerald Bay is a great easy hike and offers the opportunity to continue hiking up to Eagle Lake and even beyond into Desolation Wilderness for the more adventurous. Keep an eye out for soaring Ospreys and Bald Eagles during winter months at Emerald Bay. For those that like fly fishing, the Truckee river offers some fun practice but the really good fishing is nearby on the Carson river.

Exceptional property and service!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property in early March 2017 for a ski trip. It was an amazing experience; the best VRBO rental we have had to date! Zero issues or complaints. The house is very clean and well organized. The owners clearly take pride in this property have thought of everything in terms of supplies and amenities. They are very responsive, friendly, and provided numerous helpful suggestions/info that allowed us to maximize our time. The communication was great. The kitchen layout is open, inviting, and very functional. Often rental kitchens are lacking in terms of supplies; especially knives. Not here! Olive oil, sugar, salt, pepper, other spices, numerous pots and pans, Tupperware/storage, and real knives that are sharp! The list goes on. It was a pleasure to hang out as a group and cook in this kitchen. The beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms are nice and clean. The hot tub seems to be brand new and is one of the best we have seen at a rental property. The views out of the back of the house into the national forest were amazing. This was the perfect place to stay during our ski trip. Five stars for visit for sure. We would be happy to stay here again next time we travel to Tahoe, regardless of the season. Great house and great people. Thanks again Bob for helping us have a fantastic vacation!.

A BEAUTIFUL HOME FOR A FAMILY TO GATHER

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this home from the open floor plan to the multiple living spaces; from the beauty of the setting to the abundance of supplies; and from the attention to detail for renters by the owner to the attention to detail in the care of the home by the owner; all combined to make it the best “HomeAway” the members of my family have experienced among many fine homes rented for our annual Thanksgiving gathering. The home was very well appointed with a kitchen that suited our needs for the special occasion; and with supplies more than adequate. The owner has gone out of his way to provide detailed instructions for settling in and using the applicances; the electronics and other devices safely and appropriately. Beyond that he provides options for hiking and other activities that are extremely helpful. Without me asking for comments every member of the family agreed this was the best place we have gathered and the place we hope to gather again anytime we are in South Lake Tahoe

Wonderful house, very comfortable for family stays, easy access from Hwy 50

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying here; the house has lots of room and laid out to afford both privacy and opportunity to hang out in the kitchen, living room, deck, or hot tub. The pantry is stocked, the beds are comfortable, and there are a lot of games, books, etc. to keep a family entertained.

It's easy to light the fireplaces and access the hot tub. The garage easily holds two cars and is spotless. The neighbors are friendly and the setting is among pine trees. We highly recommend this property and its owner.

The perfect property for an unforgettable stay in South Lake Tahoe!

  • 5 of 5

On a 10 scale, the property is a 20. First class, drop-dead gorgeous, loaded with amenities (too many to list) and has a most helpful and congenial owner. Huge hot tub, adjacent to a forest, two stone fireplaces, huge deck and gourmet kitchen. You won't find better for the price.

Best Bday weekend ever!

  • 5 of 5

Overall, the house was comfy and very beautiful...had a cabin feel to it. Spent the weekend there for my 30th bday with my friends and family just hanging out. Enjoyed the firepit, hot tub and the deck. The view was amazing. The owner was very helpful and easy to reach. Got engaged in the house, which made this house even more memorable. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Bob and family for opening your home for us to stay in. Thank you!

Fantastic House

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Bob's house. It's in a nice area and the house is well stocked. They have an abundance of cooking pots and pans, etc. It is very close to a river which we enjoyed. It's a very comfortable house nestled amongst the pines. Bob provides information not only for the house, but also neighboring activities, hikes, etc. We played lots of bumper pool which we hadn't done in years. We highly recommend this place!
