About Bob Hill

My wife and I are outdoor enthusiasts and active hikers, bikers, and skiers. We enjoy spending time with friends and family and plan to organize some great vacations in Tahoe. Our 10 year plan is to retire and live in the home.

Bob Hill purchased this house in 2014

Why Bob Hill chose South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe is one of our favorite places, besides being the place we got engaged it also offers an incredible variety of area attractions, from the natural beauty of Emerald Bay to the nightlife and shows at the casinos, all within a 15 minute drive. We bought this home as a future place to retire, so a quiet setting in a great neighborhood was very important to us. The home itself is located towards the end of a cul-de-sac on a lightly traveled street, with many of the lots under protection from the California conservancy (basically undeveloped/natural areas). The home also backs directly to the national forest and is a short 5 minute walk through the trees to the Upper Truckee river, which is absolutely beautiful and has great hiking/biking trails just alongside. The neighborhood is on virtually flat land, which becomes more important after a heavy snowfall , and both front and back yards are only slightly sloped and offer a great place for relaxing and outdoor entertainment. We love this place and we hope you will too.

What makes this house unique

We saw a lot of very nice properties during our search but there were probably 3 or 4 things that really made this one stand out for us. Probably the biggest single factor was the location. Having a home that backed to national forest where we could walk out the back door, through the back yard and forest to the river in just a few minutes was really amazing. We know it's not our land..but it sure feels like it when we're back there hiking around. Privacy was another important factor. We like having neighbors, but don't want to stand on the back deck and look into their back yard, or worse. This home sits back from the street further than the home to our right, to our left is a conservancy lot, and behind is the forest, so when you're out on the deck or in the hot tub, the view is forest and sky. Very relaxing. And finally the home itself, we wanted an open style home with lots of windows and second floor living. This quality home was built by an excellent area builder and has a master bedroom/bath, 2nd bedroom, laundry room and guest bath (w/shower) all on the main floor in addition to a large and inviting living/dining/kitchen great room with a beautiful river rock fireplace, a back wall full of windows, and a huge upper deck.

Exceptional property and service!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property in early March 2017 for a ski trip. It was an amazing experience; the best VRBO rental we have had to date! Zero issues or complaints. The house is very clean and well organized. The owners clearly take pride in this property have thought of everything in terms of supplies and amenities. They are very responsive, friendly, and provided numerous helpful suggestions/info that allowed us to maximize our time. The communication was great. The kitchen layout is open, inviting, and very functional. Often rental kitchens are lacking in terms of supplies; especially knives. Not here! Olive oil, sugar, salt, pepper, other spices, numerous pots and pans, Tupperware/storage, and real knives that are sharp! The list goes on. It was a pleasure to hang out as a group and cook in this kitchen. The beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms are nice and clean. The hot tub seems to be brand new and is one of the best we have seen at a rental property. The views out of the back of the house into the national forest were amazing. This was the perfect place to stay during our ski trip. Five stars for visit for sure. We would be happy to stay here again next time we travel to Tahoe, regardless of the season. Great house and great people. Thanks again Bob for helping us have a fantastic vacation!.

Perfect family rental!!!

  • 5 of 5

Your first impression of this amazing rental begins with the introduction to it's owner, Bob Hill. He was excellent about helping us feel welcome in his home and provided more then enough information on his home and surrounding area. We were in constant contact leading up to and during our rental. It felt like I was renting from a friend.

Their home was perfectly laid out for a rental property. They say the devil is in the details and this home fits the bill with simple (yet convenient) things like labeled drawers, stocked pantry, instructions for their electronics, plenty of board games, boot and glove warmers, towel hooks next to the hot tub, etc. I could go on and on!

Our family will definitely be on his growing list of return renters and we look forward to staying there again.

We highly recommend this house to larger families or 2 families (of 8-9) people as it's layout gives you plenty of space per floor.

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

Clean, classy, comfortable, and fully stocked with more than the essentials. Perfect for two families. The backyard forest was a winter wonderland and we all had a great time playing in the snow. The owner is quick to respond (via email for us) and incredibly friendly and helpful.

Exceptional

  • 5 of 5

This is the house where you want to spend your winter vacation! Look no further. This is our 3rd year at this home in Tahoe. I can't say enough about this beautiful home and location. We had 2 families with kids and the accommodations were very comfortable for all. The kitchen is very spacious which makes cooking home cooked meals ideal. The downstairs is ideal for the kids to hang out and play games. The best part of this home that we love is the location. Right out the back is an abundance of open space in the National Forest. When there is snow, there are plenty of areas to sled and you never have to leave home. Just a short walk and you will reach the amazing creek. Knee deep in snow or no snow, it's a spot you don't want to miss. Bob the owner is amazing and checks in with you by email and makes sure your stay is perfect! You will love it here.....guaranteed!

Third year in a row, still an amazing experience!!

  • 5 of 5

Great as always!!! Although we did not get a lot of snow, our experience at Bob and Jun's is always memorable and perfect!!! Our diverse family enjoyed a lovely three-day weekend in South Lake Tahoe, taking long nature hikes with the entire family during the day and cooking elaborate meals to fuel up in the dream kitchen! We will continue to recommend this cabin to our family and friends and anyone looking for the perfect space and location for a Tahoe getaway. We were 10 to 15 minutes away from the casinos and had the forest literally in the background to explore. We had enough snow to have snowball fights and had we had more snow, the backyard would have been great for sledding.

We will be back next year for our annual trip!! Again, nothing but great things to say about this cabin, has everything you need and more!

Beautiful Home in a Gorgeous Location

  • 5 of 5

We have used VRBO many times and this was our best experience yet. As other reviewers stated the pictures don't do it justice. The house is perfectly laid out for a multi-family vacation. We had two families and everyone was comfortable. There's a common area for the kids (of all ages) and another for the adults. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we cooked almost every night. Everything about the house was very comfortable. The house was well-decorated, in a perfect location, and immaculate.

The owner's hospitality is amazing. They really have thought of everything - amazing attention to all the details that make a stay pleasant. One example is the boot dryer in the garage, I thought it was overkill until everyone needed it.

Before we chose this home we read all of the 5 star reviews. I tend to be a little skeptical but they are all true. Look no further, this place is a gem.

Skiing and fishing. Bike trails and baccarat. Ice skating and fine dining. Whatever your passion South Lake Tahoe is a great place to vacation.

Welcome to a place with enough around-the-clock awesomeness to keep you playing all day and partying all night, all on the shore of the largest alpine lake in North America - Lake Tahoe. With its clear water surrounded by the majestic Sierra Nevada, jaw-dropping vistas, stately groves of pines, and gorgeous sunsets, Lake Tahoe is an alpine paradise.

Home Proximity to area attractions:

Heavenly Ski Resort (California Base) 8 miles

Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort 7 miles

Lake Tahoe 8 miles

Stateline Casinos 10 miles

The property itself is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood away from the crowds but within a 10-15 minute drive of area attractions (skiing, lake, golf, casinos, shopping + restaurants). The home backs directly to the national forest and one of the first things we'd recommend is a short 5 minute hike down to the river. It's absolutely beautiful and the trails alongside stretch for miles and miles into Washoe State Park. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as martens, coyotes and the occasional black bear (no grizzlies in the area).

We'd also recommend checking out Emerald Bay and D.L. Bliss State Parks. Eagle Falls at Emerald Bay is a great easy hike and offers the opportunity to continue hiking up to Eagle Lake and even beyond into Desolation Wilderness for the more adventurous. Keep an eye out for soaring Ospreys and Bald Eagles during winter months at Emerald Bay. For those that like fly fishing, the Truckee river offers some fun practice but the really good fishing is nearby on the Carson river.
