It is widely agreed that the Jordaan is one of, if not THE best neighborhood in Amsterdam. It has lovely canals, great shopping, galleries and restaurants, weekly street markets and easy access to all the tourist sights in Amsterdam. Enjoy a unique experience on one of the funkiest boats in town located in the best neighborhood on one of the prettiest canals. Our quaint 'bohemian inspired' houseboat is full of artistic flair with all the comforts of home. Guests can enjoy a 'walking holiday' as attractions are easily reached on foot, or rent a bike just around the corner. Views across the canals and bridges are sprinkled with beautiful churches and amazing Dutch architecture. If location, location, location is your wish in Amsterdam, this is the rental for you. The space is perfect for 2 people or a couple with 1 small child. It is a small boat with low ceilings, but once you get cuddled inside it is extremely comfortable with all the modern amenities plus spectacular views on the canal out every window. We have a large outside decks on the canal and street sides (rare on houseboats) adorned with beautiful flowers and plants. The interior of the boat has 'funky' bright colors, cool lighting and lots of visual candy. There are 2 rooms and several outdoor sitting areas. The main room has a comfortable sitting area, dining table, kitchen and a queen sized bed. The 2nd room has a bathtub / shower, bathroom, office area and a single bed. Guests will have access to the entire home including high-speed wireless internet, cable TV, stove top, microwave and small toaster oven, Nespresso Coffee machine, Phillips Juicing machine and mixer, hot water pot for tea and kitchen and bathroom supplies.

About Jody Toll
My name is Jody and I grew up in Tucson Arizona, went to Lewis and Clark College in Portland Oregon, lived in Japan, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Bali... I love to travel and Amsterdam is absolutely the best city in the world ! Come enjoy with us !
Jody Toll purchased this House Boat in 2005
Why Jody Toll chose Grachtengordel
When I first came to Amsterdam I knew I had to live on a houseboat. After years of searching, I found our boat which is located in the best spot in town and has tons of character! To wake up every morning to the glistening water, watch the ducks and other birds cruise by, listen to the live music and laughter in the streets and on the canal... it is a vibrant, artistic and beautiful place. I'm so happy to share it with you !
What makes this House Boat unique
This boat is special because it sits on top of the water with large windows all along the canal and a wonderful outdoor patio. The views are amazing, you feel as if you could touch the water. And the Jordaan neighborhood is simply the best area of town!

Easily top three most wonderfully unique place I have stayed in my 48 years on this planet.
First of all Jody is a pleasure to work with through the app to plan your stay. She communicated so well and answered all my questions and concerns quickly and with thorough information.
Jody went above and beyond. When we needed to confirm our dates she put a hold on the property for us till we could verify the dates. We also had an accident while we were there and accidentally broke a plastic piece in the fridge. When I reached out to her to let her know she was so kind and said "not to worry as that was just normal wear and tear". Thank you Jody!
The houseboat it quite possibly one of the coolest most unique places I've ever stayed. The art is everywhere and my wife and I and son never stopped finding new art throughout the trip. The bathroom has an option to turn on black lights and she provides glowing markers for you to leave a message for future guests. It is SOOO cool and Jody you need to get a picture of it on the page. It's a huge selling point. The deck outside had space enough for the three of us and we used it every night for cocktail and cheese hour and watch the boats go by using the provided bluetooth speaker for music.
One thing you should know is that you will be on the boat tour. The tour boats vary from the large ones that carry 60 people or so down to boats people rented themselves that hold maybe 4 people and everything in between. We didn't mind it at all as people are so friendly and wave and raise a glass to you if you are sitting outside with one. It's also kind of cool cause you feel like a local. We found that being on the houseboat we always felt like we were touring Amsterdam even when home. What a great feeling!
As the description of the place notes, it is not very large and really is best suited for a couple or a family (son is almost 15) of three like ours. We are not very large people so it was perfect for us.
If you think you like the place based on the pictures, description and reviews do not hesitate to book it. You will be SO happy you did!
Jody, thank for making our trip so unique and special. We posted a lot of pictures on social media and we had a lot of friends and family asking for the link.
Sean, Jenny and Liam
Thank you Sean for such a touching review. The good vibes work both ways; it was a joy to host you and your family and we would welcome your friends as our family as well.
Knowing our guests enjoy the funky boat makes it all worth while !! Come back soon !
Warm regards and many blessings !
Aloha from Maui! It was a wonderful experience. We really had so much fun staying in this houseboat. Everything was perfect for us and it was so relaxing and peaceful that there were times we didn’t even want to leave. If you want something fun and nice for the imagination you will love it. It is also in a really good location next to some great restaurants and shopping. The check in was really easy and our host was very accommodating, thank you so much!
Loved staying on the canal in this funky houseboat
The houseboat was perfect for two of us. We especially loved sitting on the deck, and the shower! It was also centrally located, so we walked everywhere. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Okay for short time frame
It is funky and fun for a short time. It is extremely loud: meaning bar noise and crowd goes to 2 or 3 am and the street noise starts at 5 am. and the church bells go 24/7
There are no screens on the windows so we got mosquito bites. In fact, we left a day early because we had so many bites and when they started on our face that was it. It is way to hot not to have windows open. The window coverings are just cloth and really do not keep bugs or lights at night out very well. It just needs to be freshened up for the price.
There are no wash clothes or top sheet. We had to go to 8 stores to find a top sheet as it was quite warm and a comforter was way to hot.
In my opinion this place would be fun for 2 or 3 nights max.
The cleaning fee is a joke and very expensive. It is clean on the surface but no deep cleaning. The floors and carpet are dirty and the furniture is rather worn, the lights were full of dust. This place top to bottom would take no more than an hour to clean.
It was disappointing our host Fake was not that interested in helping us.
I would stay on a houseboat again just not this one.
Thank you for your honest and informative review. I am truly sorry to hear of the problems during your stay and grateful you have shared them with me. Please know I am taking steps to investigate and make corrections. I'm so sorry I wasn't personally made aware of your concerns during your stay, I would have taken care of them right away. This is the first time I've ever had any complaints about the sheets or the comforter being too warm, in fact many folks say the bedding is one of their favorite parts of the boat. I can imagine, given an irregularly hot summer, it may have been an issue for you and I will take your advice to hand. Regarding the cleaning, my boat manager was unfortunately on holiday during your stay which is by no means an excuse, but I believe this is the issue with the service you received. I will not be using the temp service again and I will send you a refund of the cleaning fee. I am also investigating the mosquito issue which is very odd and a first for me. In my many years living on the boat I have never had a mosquito bite or heard them buzzing around at all. Possibly the unusually hot summer has created some issues on the canal water with mosquitos, we are checking into this as well. Unfortunately, regarding the noise, there is nothing we can do as the city is sweeping with tourists and we are in the very heart of town. Sometimes there can be a rowdy crew somewhere down the canal and the sound can echo.
Once again, I'm very sorry you were disappointed and grateful for your helpful report. I will be touch with you directly to discuss further and provide you with a refund for your troubles.
Very nice but eccentric little place to stay
A clean, comfortable and well equipped houseboat in a quiet (except for church bells) but conveniently central area. The decor is extremely eccentric but fun. 3 people CAN stay here but it's tight. 2 will have to share a double bed and the 3rd single bed is essentially in the bathroom. Communication with the host was a little casual but we got it all worked out. Definitely worth a look.
Great place and great location
Thanks for a great stay!
This houseboat is in a perfect location to enjoy the best shopping and restaurants in Amsterdam. It is also in walking distance from the museums and in easy access to public transportation should you wish to take a trip to the beach or the flower fields.
Rates are subject to change unless reservation is confirmed. Guests will be greated by a member of our staff upon arrival who will explain how everything works on the boat and answer any questions. We can shop for you and fill your refrigerator before you arrive with your favorite things, prepare a tour plan for you or answer any questions you might have. We will occasionally accept 2 nights.
