I purchased this property to be my primary residence in Washington DC. I lovingly and professionally restored this property to bring out the charm of this gorgeous historic rowhouse while including modern 21st century luxury features. I lived in this exact same apartment for several years until moving out of town recently.
Bill Powers purchased this house in 2002
The location is unbeatable and the block is gorgeous! I wanted something that was quintessentially Capitol Hill, in the heart of this historic neighborhood and on a tree-lined block with other beautiful homes.
Quite simply, the access from this house is too good to be true! I can easily walk to dozens of restaurants, bars and shops as well as many of the nation's finest monuments, museums and memorials. The Capital South Metro station is half a block away and can have me in most other parts of DC within 15-20 minutes or at the airport (DCA) in 30 minutes. When I need to drive, the house is just three blocks from the freeway (I-395).
Charming house and very comfortable during a few cold days (-7c) in Jan. Could not believe the great location. Off street parking very convenient. Easily took care of 6 of us. We appreciated eating in style at the dining table. Bill was very responsive and although we had a few washing machine issues, everything was functional and we just took in the surrounding sights. I would recommend this property.
Location can't be beat. The reviews of the house were really wonderful. However, our experience was not quite as seamless. It took 24 hours to get toilet paper in the house (other than the minimal rolls left on the holders); the promised shower toiletries weren't provided; kitchen only had 2 wine glasses and 2 dish towels; I cut my foot on glass in the bedroom; the washer didn't work....
Eventually the manager was helpful but it took several days. He did comp us for the inconvenience so I felt it was fair, but it wasn't the great experience we were looking forward to.
5 Old Friends enjoyed a weekend reunion and was happy here. While interior decore was minimal, it was offset by exceptional location and cleanliness. Beds were extremely comfortable, Master Bath very good, and off street parking was a plus!
We can definitely rate five star for location. It is very easy to get most anywhere either by walking or metro. Even Uber rides are not expensive
However, would rate the house as a 3 to 4 .It is a large restored Federal style townhome. One can see a lot of thought was put into finishings.
When we arrived neither the dishwasher nor washing machine was working. The manager was responive but dishwasher was problematic and washer was never repaired. The house needs attention .... mildowed shower cutains, light bulbs missing, broken shades , and floor and furniture cleaning.
We used it for family vacation. The kitchen is not supplied for dinner needs ... missing bowls, serving dishes. .., Basically just dishes and silverware.
It could be real 5 star with some TLC!
This was a great location for a family of 5. Close to the Metro station and to the local grocery store (Harris Teeter), as well as within walking distance of the various sites on the Mall. There is also a great playground a very short walk away. Bill was very responsive and helpful (we had an issue with the washing machine and he let us use the one downstairs). Accommodations were very comfortable.
We enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable house in a quiet area, which was ideal for five adults. It was easy to get to the Capitol, Mall and museums on foot and for other locations around DC the metro stop was really convenient. We were glad of the air conditioning as the weather was very warm for late October. Bill was helpful if there were any problems and was easily contactable. A great family holiday and celebration in an ideal location. There were several restaurants on the next block and more on Pennsylvania Avenue and some very good food carts at lunchtime.
