We love to travel and enjoy photography, cooking, dining out, and being with family and friends. We grew up in the Netherlands and Brazil respectively. Have lived in New Orleans, London, Mannheim, Houston, London again and now the Hague, the Netherlands. And so proud to have our own little pad in London now! We hope you like it too!
Paul Beijer purchased this studio in 2013
Having lived in London for four and a half years, we are so thrilled to now have our own little studio in this great city! We are based in The Hague, the Netherlands and the flat is therefore oftentimes free. Our primary focus was to maximize the functionality of the studio, which I believe we succeeded in doing. Over the coming period, expect more color, art and photography to warm it all up a bit. We plan to decorate one wall with our own work (photographs) that travelers can buy if they like them. Do get in touch!
This is a quirky design flat. Simply the most practical small space you will ever see we think. It does not feel cramped because of the high ceilings, the large bay windows and the smart design features. We did most of the paintwork ourselves. Our Dutch furniture maker built the cupboard with bed, couch and the breakfast table and brought it all over on the ferry and spent four days putting it all in place: Handwork! I did the same with the Bolia chairs, which were sent from Denmark to Germany and then driven and ferried across. The Jim Thompson fabric for the curtains I picked up in Singapore and Yvonne made some beautiful Roman blinds from it. We hope you like it too!
This flat is wonderful. Simple and welcoming, it sits in a neat neighborhood on the Northern line. There are lots of restaurants, grocery, coffee places nearby. The flat is quite clean and simple -- all high need for a London getaway! The hosts were easy to deal with ans kind.
I booked this accommodation for my parents who came to visit us in London. Exactly as advertised all pictures are correct. Accommodation is in good state and expect everything you might need for a "home away" to be there. All very clean. The communications were excellent and timely emails were always sent providing all the information required plus some extra info for people that are first time in London. The entrance might seem a bit "old" but believe everything inside is fine. The area is safe and very close to the tube. If you are wondering whether this is close to central London just because it is not one of the famous Tube stations rest assured, Northern line can take you anywhere and buses that can take you directly to London bridge and many other famous London locations. Don't expect to step out of the door and see London's main attractions but I guess that is the point of Home Away practical, clean, good facilities and great transport connections. I recomend this property!!!
Thank you Paul and Joao for your help (even if we didn't have to meet) and wish you all the best.
The flat was in a very convenient location for accessing the Archway tube station. The information about the flat was accurate. It is small. Once you put the bed down there isn't much extra room. However, that worked out okay for us as we were only there to sleep. We did not use the cooking facilities, but it would have been nice to have had a microwave oven. The bathroom looked as tho it had been recently refurbished. A clean bathroom is a must!! Our only complaint was the entryway. It needs some updating -- a new coat of paint, flooring/ carpeting and better lighting. The entryway needs to be cleaned better as it was quite dirty. We received detailed instructions about directions and entry to the flat prior to our arrival. Questions about transportation, baggage storage, etc were answered promptly.
It was a pretty decent flat even though it's quite small but okay for 2 people..
Description was 100% accurate! Property was really clean and well maintained.
Only 1 min walk to the underground.
It's very easy to go to the center of London.
Everything was perfect. I will recommend this place to friends and family.
Thanks Paul for a great stay. 31/10/2015
Owner and the website very helpful with info on the property and that tourist related.I appreciate the need for security and not making the specifics on the unit available till arriving but the rest of the information would have been helpfull in our planning.Enjoyed our stay and the unit ideally suited for transport access. We had difficulty getting up the narrow stairs with our luggage and this limiting for anyone with accessibility issues.Very small size limits to a single or couple.Ethnic takeaways available and quite cheap and good.
It takes you less than 20 minutes to get to the heart of London, because excellent transport-links get you anywhere fast. Walk to Archway Tube station in 3 minutes, from where you reach:
- Camden Town (3 stops)
- Angel (5 stops)
- Leicester square (9 stops)
Walk to Upper Holloway Overground station in 3 minutes, from where you reach:
- Hampstead Heath / Kenwood House: 2 train stops.
- Highbury / Islington (5 stops)
- Hackney (8 stops)
There are 10 busses with stops within 5 minutes to take you anywhere in London, for example
- Highgate Village: 3 bus stops (5 min)
- Hornsey, London Bridge, Notting Hill Gate
There is residence only parking on the street in front of the flat. We have vouchers available at GBP 15 per day for guests to use, let us know if you come by car please.
From the airport:
From Luton, you take a train to Kentish Town and then the Northern Line (2 stops). From Stansted, you take a train to Tottenham Hale and then one stop on the Victoria line to Blackhorse Road and then the Overground to Upper Holloway (5 stops). From Heathrow, Gatwick and City airports, you'd make your way to Euston or King's Cross tube station from where the Northern Line takes you to Archway Tube station in less than 10 minutes (4 stops).
There are many green spaces nearby: We like Waterlow Park especially. For indoor exercise, go to Archway Leisure Centre, where they have a gym and a pool. To hang out in St. John's Tavern on Junction Road on a Sunday is lovely, their dining room impressive. The Lord Palmerston and the Spoke are other great pubs nearby. There is new places opening all the time. If you prefer the outdoors, we highly recommend Hampstead Heath: Have a picnic on the grounds in front of Kenwood House and hang out with the crowd from Billionaires Row. Islington is a happening area just a short bus-ride away - you practically pass Arsenal stadium if you are into soccer. The quintessentially English village of Highgate is just 3 bus stops up the hill. You won't know you are in a global city! Don't miss world famous Highgate cemetery. On Saturdays, there is Archway market around the corner (with fresh fruits & vegetables, breads, cheeses, salamis, roast pork etc). Shops are plenty-full and close by on Holloway Road with a Sainsbury's supermarket 100 mtrs away open till mid-night.
