Two Story, 4 Bedroom, 2 Bath Beach Home With Amazing Views of Pacific Ocean

The J Frank Cullen House was the first home built in Cardiff-by the-Sea in 1911 by J Frank Cullen the original developer of the town. The home has a wonderful pedigree with an original stone fireplace, Craftsman charm, a large garden and yet has recently been 'refreshed' so it is comfortable and consistent with modern living.

Downstairs there is a Sitting Room, Living Room (with Cable TV), Bedroom (with Cable TV and a Queen Bed), Bathroom, Kitchen (well stocked with china, flatware and pots & pans), Laundry Room (Washer & Dryer) and large Ocean View Porch (deck chairs).

Upstairs is the ocean view Master Bedroom (Queen Bed), Bedroom Three (two twin beds), Bedroom Four (one twin bed), and the second Bathroom.

The exterior gardens west and north of the house are lush and landscaped, a perfect place for some downtime after days at the beach.

Speaking of the Beach, the Cardiff Reef and San Elijo Lagoon are just blocks away. Close enough to walk but far enough away to get away from the summer crowds. If you don't know, the Cardiff Reef is a famous surf break and its proximity to the San Elijo Lagoon means that you can swim, kayak, paddle, etc. in the waves of the Pacific Ocean or the tranquil waters of the lagoon. It is a perfect mixture for families, especially if the little ones may not be ready for the ocean swells just yet.

Why Perry Herst chose Cardiff

I chose this property for its unique mix of history, charm and ocean views / ocean proximity. It is a perfect place to 'get away' from your hectic 2018, 9-5 life and visit idyllic Pre-War California.

Though up on the hill and benefiting from cooling breezes, the surf can be heard and seen from the home. We have even spotted whales and dolphins from the porch. The oversize garden has many fruiting plants and vegetable making it extremely tranquil.

That being said, the action in Cardiff is only a few blocks away and accessible by foot. With a car you can easily and quickly reach Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar (the Del Mar Track), Carlsbad (Legoland) and all of San Diego.

What makes this house unique

The J Frank Cullen House is the original Cardiff Beach Cottage, situated on the best lot in town, as chosen by the developer himself. No other home in town has the same karmic energy and original California charm. Just sitting on the porch and watching the sunset is a superlative & singular treat.

Charming, historic home with awesome views and convenient location

Our family loved everything about this house. It was plenty big for the six of us (two adults and four teenagers) to spread out over the week. We particularly loved the sunroom, the spacious decks and that serene master bedroom with its whitewater view and sounds of the ocean to lull us to sleep every night. The house is an easy walk to Cardiff village and the beach so the kids could venture out on their own to explore. We ate really well, mostly at home with our bounty from the wonderful Seaside Market. The weather in late July/early August was perfect. The ocean temperature was nearly tropical at 81 degrees!. It was a great, relaxing week all around and we would love to come back.

Love the house, and wanted to bring the view home. Awesome views!

Great home, very comfortable, manager answered questions right away. View was great! Easy to get to stores. If you are a walker like me, nice neighborhood to walk in. Hills are great exercise! Go to LaJolla and rent electric bike. So much fun! I would recommend this home!

Gourmet grocery store just around the corner for the best BBQ’s with family and friends. The view is to die for and the location is prime. We were beyond satisfied with this property!!!

Perfect home away from home

We stayed in this home for almost a month. It was the perfect beach house! We walked to the beach and dinner daily. The yard provided a great place for our 4 boys to play. Catching the sunset on the deck or eating breakfast overlooking the ocean was dreamy! Ample street and driveway parking. Clean with all of the necessities to make your stay comfortable. Great Ocean View and Easy walk into Town

My family and I stayed in the J Cullen house for a long weekend and had a lovely time. The beds were comfortable and the living room had space for everyone to sit. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. There was a Weber grill outside for grilling. The weather was a bit chilly so we did not get to take advantage of the outdoor balcony as much as we would have liked. There was a lovely view of the ocean from the balcony and you can hear the waves all day. Town was just few blocks away if you like to try local restaurants or cafes. Overall we had a great stay. The only drawback was that there was not a table to seat 8 people inside the home even though there is room for a table. We managed to work around this issue.

We would definitely rent this home again should we find ourselves in Cardiff sometime in the future.

Cardiff by the Sea is a unique, hip ocean front surf town that has some of the best surfing, swimming and beach combing in Southern California. All of San Diego, California is freeway close, but the best part is parking the car and just walking in town to eat at restaurants, drink at ocean front bars, shop, and relax.
