At one end of Moodus Reservoir right on the lake. Dock for boating, swimming, or fishing. Public boat launch is nearby. Canoe and kayaks available. Side lawn good for kids, bocce, etc. Gas grill. Internet access and cable TV.
My sister, my brother, and I own the property jointly. Our parents purchased the property in 1962 and my father, with help mainly from my brother and I, built the house in 1972. We lived in Hamden, CT and went here almost every weekend during the summers. The house was a central gathering point for our extended family.
Dean Amato purchased this house in 1962
The lake views and easy access to the lake are hard to beat. The covered, screened porch is a great place to relax regardless of the weather.
We stayed in this house in October 2016 for 5 nights. We have stayed in VRBO properties before, and we also have done many, many house exchanges, so we are familiar with the spectrum of houses one can rent or exchange. The pluses of this house: pretty reservoir that looks like a lake, comfortable dining area, equipped kitchen, nice big screen TV. The minuses: overall wear and tear on the house makes for some discomfort. Curtains in the master bedroom are waterstained, and the upstairs beds have mismatched foam pieces intended, evidently, to make the mattress more comfortable. Some general cleanliness issues (buckets, cleaning materials dumped in the hall closet, materials dumped in the bedroom closet.) The house needs some attention.
This is the second year we spent our fall vacation at the Lake House. Ready to book again for next year! Very clean, well stocked and the setting is wonderful. Convenient to all.
Very spacious living room and screen porch area. Needed some airing out but then was fine. Great location!
This house was absolutely perfect for a nice long weekend getaway. The inside of the house is very spacious and the outside lawn has plenty of room for a volleyball net or any other activities you'd like. The kayaks/canoes included were a nice touch too, as the water in the Moodus reservoir was easily 80+ this past weekend.
One of the best aspects is it's secluded to the neighbors, so noise isn't necessarily something you'll have to worry about if you have a big group.
Dave is a great guy and I'd highly recommend his property and would love to return!
This property is off the beaten path in CT. We were a family of 6 staying there. Our kids loved the location - the private dock is 20 feet from the house. There were two kayaks and a canoe we used extensively. There were several non-chain eateries withing a couple miles that we used. Superfast (70MB/s+) internet and wi-fi. We watched a lot of Netflix! The owner description was accurate. We though the bathroom arrangement might be a problem, but the toilet has a separate door , as does the shower. It was fine for our family. Well-stocked kitchen with pots/pan, dishes, etc... We only cooked a couple meals - but you could easily fix a large meal there. There was a BBQ grill, but we never used it.
Very quiet, peace and RELAXING. We would certainly return.
The property was great. The reservoir was beautiful, allowing fishing, and many types of boats. Lots to do nearby, hiking, beaches, Mystic close, castles, etc. would highly recommend this property
