Kitchi Lake is in the middle of the Cass Lake chain of eight inter-navigable lakes and offers a variety of game fish including walleye, northern pike, crappie, blue gill, large mouth bass and muskie. Cass Lake, a ten minute boat ride from the house, is also one of the state’s premier muskie lakes and a favorite with trophy fishermen. A boat landing is available about a mile from the house.
The Turtle River, which runs through Kitchi, provides boaters and canoeists with spectacular views of woodlands and wildlife. The southwestern corner of our property usually has a pair of eagles nesting between May and September and fledgelings can often be seen foraging along our shoreline or circling the house.
Nearby Bemidji offers a variety of family activities including hiking and biking on state trails, several golf courses, and major retail chains.
We had a great time at the lake home this August. There was plenty of room for the 5 of us. All rooms were nice and clean. The kitchen had all you need to prepare a meal. Gil and Sharon were very nice and helpful and made it easy to get entrance to the home. We enjoyed the large deck in the morning and the fire pit at night. The home is very secluded on a mile road which made it a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the loons. The lakes in the chain are very shallow and may need a day or so to navigate your way around before you opener up. It would be a beautiful area to be in during the fall color change. Thanks for a great place for us to celebrate a 85th birthday! Sincerely, Cindy S.
It was a very nice updated cabin including new appliances and washer and dryer, but the distance to the lake was a bit long and steep. There was no electricity to the dock that we were aware of. Sharon and Gil Kubacek, the neighbors we picked up the key from, were a very nice couple. We visited a couple times with them and enjoyed their company.
The house was comfortable with a nice renovated kitchen. The dock was great for tying up the 16' fishing boat at night. The lake was good for panfish and has direct easy access done to Cass Lake where it was only 10-15 minutes by boat to a large sandy beach.
I can't say enough good things about this place (house itself and location) and the owners.
My wife, son (who just graduated college) and myself picked this place for a week of fishing just from the description/pictures and some conversations with Pat & Mike (owners) and couldn't have been happier with our choice. We all really enjoyed the place and Pat & Mike were very friendly and helpful, as was the couple down the road that helps them out. We came with a boat and they made sure we had enough extension chord to be able to charge the boat batteries at the dock.
I would note, that though there was only three of us, the place can easily accommodate more as indicated in the description.
The place is a bit of a way down a dirt road (the only one other house is at the end of the road which is were the couple that helps the owners out live) so it is very quiet and gives the feel of being secluded which we really liked.
The lakes (Kitchi is on a chain if you look on a map) were also nice and fishing was fairly good when we were there, unfortunately we didn't catch any muskies like we were hoping though we did have some nice follows....I won't blame Pat & Mike for this. We had a 18' lund deep V with 150hp and we could easily navigate into Cass Lake and the other lakes on the chain from this location.
I would also recommend stopping at the Pike Hole Bar between Kitchi Lake and Pug Hole Lake for a burger and beer. If you come with a boat they have their own docks there, so all the more fun.
Pat/Mike, thanks again
What a wonderful wonderful spot! Thank you so much to the owners for working so hard to make this work for me. We had a wonderful time. The property is just so beautiful. The trees were changing color and the view is second to none. If you are looking for quiet this spot is perfect. The people we picked up the key from were so nice. Everyone agreed we would like to rent this property for a week and have more time to enjoy. Thank you again.
