We are located in a lovely rural setting while still being only 2-5 minutes from downtown Luther College and downtown Decorah. The accommodations are private, spacious, convenient, and very convenient to restaurants, activities, and sites. Ample parking is available. There are walking trails on the property and space for campfires.
Decorah is a thriving community with a wonderful mix of cultural opportunities including theatre, art galleries, biking / walking trails, parks, restaurants, organic foods, seasonal farmers market, education, and outdoor recreation including trout streams, canoeing, tubing, kayaking and fishing the Upper Iowa River.
We built our home in 2004. David was very involved in the building and both of us were very involved in the designing of our two level home. Both levels are complete with lots of natural light and plenty of windows overlooking the Upper Iowa River Valley. Each level is a complete living quarters. Our needs have changed so we are now sharing our home with visitors like you, who come to enjoy the Decorah area. David is a painting contractor and Barbara is the Administrator of Windemere Institute of Healing Arts and a Practitioner of the Healing Arts. We have 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren and 2 beloved dogs. We live a wonderful life and are happy to share our home with you.
Barbara purchased this condo in 2004
As a young couple we came to the Decorah area to canoe the Upper Iowa River and enjoy the natural beauty and rich culture. We eventually decided to make Decorah home for our growing family and after being the stewards of a beautiful country homestead near Decorah, we ultimately were led to this location which we dearly love.
We think you will enjoy the peace and beauty of our sanctuary. The views, the gardens, the natural light, the spaciousness and clean and fresh ambiance are here to welcome you.
What a wonderful retreat away from home! :) We loved the views and all the birds especially. Amazing variety for bird lovers and photo takers. Also the area is amazing as well as the leaves are changing plus so much to do in Decorah alone! Definitely would stay again!
Our family had a wonderful weekend for Luther College homecoming. The garden apartment may be on the lower level, but it is anything but a basement! We found a clean, comfortable living space, roomy dining area and all the kitchen equipment we needed, comfy, cozy great beds for six, great bath and lush towels, and everything else we needed for our weekend. Just 1.5 miles from the Luther Campus, we were near everything we needed. Barbara and David were helpful before, during and after our stay. We can't wait to find our next time to visit.
The home is located in a beautiful and serene area outside of Decorah. The property is filled with gardens, flowers, and all sorts of birds. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful setting.
The home is comfortable and spacious. It was perfect for our family of four. The beds were super comfortable and the living area offered plenty of opportunity for everyone to relax and not feel like we were on top of one another. Great selection of movies and the kitchen is well stocked with all that is needed to prepare meals.
Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home!
We really enjoyed our stay! It was beautiful and a perfect place to gather with friends. Decorah is also a nice town with lots going on on the weekend! Would recommend it to everyone.
My college girlfriends and I had a great stay! We were very comfortable in the house and it was situated in a neat part of the countryside yet still close to downtown Decorah shops and attractions. Barbara was easy to work with and quick to respond to my questions.
6 of us visited for a girl's weekend. We loved the open concept, and the bedrooms were good sized. We spent alot of time on the patio, where we enjoyed watching the birds and taking in the scenery. We had everything we needed during our stay. The only suggestion we have is to add a toilet to the shower room. We would definitely stay again, and some are suggesting it to parents of incoming freshmen at Luther.
We are located 1 1/2 mile from the beautiful Upper Iowa River where you may enjoy fishing, canoeing, and kayaking; a number of trout streams.; and hiking trails and biking trails. Our area is rich with arts, natural foods, and good restaurants and great people. Really ... the perfect town.
