About Sorrel Dod

My husband and I have lived and worked as teachers in the Roseburg area for 20 years. We raised two children on the farm, along with llamas, chickens, Australian shepherds and kitties. We like to meet new people and enjoy all that Oregon has to offer.

Sorrel Dod purchased this cottage in 1989

Why Sorrel Dod chose Southern Oregon

Our property is unique in that our main house was built in 1935 on this location which is a southern exposure. The first time we saw the house and property, we fell in love with it. What a perfect location for sun all year around! What beautiful views and amazing soil, perfect for growing grapes! We also had plenty of fresh water and trees! Wildlife was everywhere. The property is fully remodeled, modern but with a country charm.

What makes this cottage unique

Open view across the valley, we have a variety of fruit trees, table grapes and a large vegetable and flower garden, walking trails, indoor solar heated pool, and llamas. The passive solar cottage was built in 2005. Beautifully appointed, it includes paintings that are from times past on the West Coast and Southern California deserts of the United States. We accommodate guests with pets and enjoy sunny vistas all year around.

Excellent! Cozy, quaint, and romantic!

We had such a wonderful time here. Between the adorable indoor decor of the cottage, the front porch, the beautiful grounds (we took walks and fed the llamas apples), and that POOL, it was a magical weekend!

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

This place is unbelievable! Quite, quaint, beautiful landscape, lamas next door and extremely comfortable! We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone traveling to Roseburg. We were there for a wedding and low and behold, it wasn't but a few minutes away. Right in the middle of wine country. Very dog friendly! Private pool which is wonderful. We hadn't went swimming in years and spent a morning swimming! Owners were very helpful. Can't say enough about the wonderful place that we stayed!

Many problems during our trip

  • 1 of 5

- The property is located far from Roseburg city center, you would expect the property to be quiet but it is very noisy as car passing buy next to a near road.

- The cottage itself is NOT 1 BR. It's like a cozy studio apt, where's there is no separation between the BR and the living room. They declare 850sqft. I find it hard to believe that's the case.

- The property itself is beautiful and well maintained, pool is nice (we didn't use it though)

- Since we stayed during the holidays season the owner wasn't easily accessible to attend some of the problems we had. Since we didn't want to be too needy, as the owner was on holiday too, we tried to solve our own problem. Later to be accused by the owner for stuff we did wrong or didn't do at all.

- Our dishwasher was broken on the first day, later blaming us for using the wrong soap type. We spent almost two hours trying to troubleshoot the problem, but ended up doing the dishes manually.

- Even though it should be a fully stocked kitchen, we didn't even have sugar, barely had oil, and eventually spent $200 in Safeway just for the essentials.

- Our dogs spent the time with us and besides the cold floor and no doggy beds they shed a lot. We wanted to vacuum but there was no vacuum or broom available.

- We wanted to clean the kitchen when we left, counter, stove top, but again the cleaning materials we had under the sink either were empty or weren't enough.

- After our stay the landlord blamed us for smoking in the house (which never did inside the house or outside), not cleaning after us (which we couldn't) and ruin the linens (which again we didn't).

I know the other reviews are great and maybe our stay was a one-off, but I think other travelers should be aware.

Owner's Response: Our response to this review is simply this. After 2 years, we are now requiring a cleaning deposit after our experience with these guests. There were burn holes in new sheets, our glass cooktop had burned substances on it that had to have a special cleaner to remove, the dishwasher had liquid dishwashing soap in the rinse compartment, causing excessive soap suds and required disassembly to dry, the sheets provided to cover the furniture for the dogs were not used, there is a broom in the utility room with a dustpan and the kitchen comes with Keurig coffee and biscotti. We are proud of our past ratings and reputation. Given the evidence, we stand by the review we gave you as guests.
