About our location
The Nook is conveniently located a short walk from Saranac Lakes’ downtown shops, restaurants and artist galleries. The building behind The Nook is BluSeed Studios, featuring art exhibitions, workshops and live music performances. Across the street kitty corner is a small park with a tennis court and basketball court. Less than a mile away is the towns’ municipal beach, park and picnic area at Lake Colby - always a lovely spot to watch the sunset and lower Saranac Lake boat launch, which gives access to the spectacular Saranac chain of lakes.
The town of Saranac Lake serves as a great vacation spot for outdoor enthusiasts, no matter the time of year! Nearby find great road biking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, snow shoeing and x-c skiing. Downhill skiers may explore Titus, Big Tupper and Whiteface Mountains each approximately 30 minutes away. Saranac Lake’s history continues as a health and wellness getaway location. Come see why Saranac Lake is one of the Northeast's pioneering health resorts and why a get away here in the Great North Woods is plain ole healing. Breath, relax, feel and be.
It’s not really a small space … but certainly a cozy place ... one guest said we may want to put a warning on our site - 'don't be surprised if you end up extending your stay!'
We call the upstairs of our home The Nook, as for us it is two floors above where we dwell and it just has a special good feeling to take refuge. The slanted lower ceilings, the lighting, the feng shui gives us that sense. We wish to share the charm of The Nook at Inner Quest with you - visitors, friends, and family. Perhaps when you come, you’ll share in your words how The Nook provided shelter upon return from your ADK outings.
May you be happy, Mary & Kevin
We love the Adirondacks. We moved here together in 1988 so we could live an active yet peaceful mountain lifestyle. We enjoy all seasons playing outdoors: hiking, biking, walking, canoeing, x-c skiing and snow shoeing. Let us help you fall in love with the Adirondacks.
Mary Bartel purchased this house in 2005
The property was purchased in 2005 to open a Yoga and Wellness Center where locals and visitors could find options for rejuvenating themselves. In June 2013, Kevin and I downsized, sold our home and built an apt. in the basement so we could save money and travel more. In Jan. 2014 the upstairs became available for rent and we decided to turn it into a vacation rental. We felt the nature of the facility, the special services we offer here, and the convenient location to the downtown area would work well for many visitors. We enjoy offering the space and meeting so many nice people.
The Nook is like home yet a floor below there are holistic services such as yoga, stretch, and tai chi group or private classes, yoga therapy, massage and other body work services available. The schedule of classes is light offering weekday classes where guests may participate at no extra charge.
Mary and Kevin,
We had a great time in Saranac Lake. We were able to enjoy the beautiful Adirondack Mountains and Lakes. On any vacation, there is always a need to come back to “home base” after a long day. The Nook provided a warm and comfortable place to rest. We especially liked
the meditation/yoga class provided. We would definitely
My husband and I stayed here for two nights and it was a lovely, restorative experience. The space is immaculate, the bed is a dream, and the whole space is as cozy as can be. Mary was wonderful too. There is also massage place downstairs that we took advantage of too-highly recommend all around. Thanks, Mary!
We had a great weekend in October. The fall colors were great to see on the train ride to Lake Placid. Also The Wild center is an awesome place to visit many things to do.Eating experience is not to bad overall,we had a great meal at Downhill grill.
My wife and I spent two nights here while on a road trip through Penn and NY. We enjoyed our stay here very much. The location is about a five minute walk to downtown Saranac Lake. We walked downtown both nights we were there for dinner. Ate at the Left Bank Café and the Downhill Grill. Both locations were very good. Drove down to Lake Placid while we were there and had lunch at the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery. Also nice. Walked downtown Lake Placid and visited the Olympic ski jump. Make sure you go up to the top. Great views.
The Nook is very easy to find via our GPS. As noted this is the second floor location in a house with a business run out of. Private entrance to the steps to get upstairs to the Nook. I felt the size of the unit was terrific for the two of us. Nice breeze through the windows so we did not need to use the air conditioner. While there is traffic on the main street in front of the house, it was not loud or annoying. Granted, we were there in September and not during peak season. The facility was very clean and the bed was quite comfortable for us. Small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker are in the hallway between the living area and bathroom. No stove but not an issue for us as we wanted to eat out each night. We met the owner, Mary, who is very nice. She has provided information on places to eat, things to do and places to visit. If you climb Mt Baker while there, it is an uphill trek but well worth the views. Do not hesitate to book the Nook. It is clean, cozy, in a good location. We felt very safe while there and even during our evening walks to downtown. Thank you Mary for allowing us to stay at the Nook.
It was sooo cute! I loved the little nook that we stayed at. Very at home, nice bath tub, small kitchen area and a very nice bedroom. The only down fall I would say is there wasn't much privacy as one might think. We have a curtain to block off anyone seeing us up stairs but that's it! People do walk through downstairs to get to the studio. We didn't have an actual door, so warning on that..
We found the Nook a perfect place for our weekend stay. While at the Nook, we celebrated our anniversary , spent a day at Saranac Lake and Lake Placid then picked up our son at a nearby Massaweepie Scout Camp. Great location for day trips within minutes of Lake Placid. Really enjoyed an experience at Rail Explorers on pedal-powered rail cars along the historic Adirondack Scenic Railroad located right behind the property. Very comfortable, meticulously clean and organized with all the needed amenities for two. We would have preferred a TV but the availability of WIFI was a plus. Highly recommended and would stay there again when vacationing in the area. The Nook was a pleasant surprise when all the area hotels were booked. Thank you Mary and Kevin.
The Nook was a great base for a few days. It's a perfect setup for a couple spending some time around Saranac Lake region. Easy to find and a short walk to anything downtown. Just up the road from the town beach and a quick run to Paul Smiths/St Regis area if you're heading that way for anything. Mary and Kevin are loaded with tips for things to do: hikes, climbs, beaches, food - you name it, they'll have a list of where it is.
We had a great time and you will too. Don't miss the Nook.
