Sun Valley Cabin - 1/2 Mile East Of Kinderhook, Il-20 Mins To Hannibal Or Quincy

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,120 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6-8

This is a cute, fully furnished cabin that was built in 2004 and an addition of the same space that was in the original cabin was added on and completed in 2015. It now has 1,120 sq. ft. of living area. It is approximately 20 minutes from Hannibal, MO; Quincy, IL and Pittsfield, IL. Springfield, IL is about 90 minutes from here and St. Louis is about two hours. Any of these places can be reached by taking I-72. It is also very close to Barry, IL where you can purchase groceries, gas and enjoy small town restaurants, Wendy's or Subway.

The cabin has a galley kitchen with a full size range, refrigerator, microwave and plenty of cabinets. All of the general kitchenware is provided, i.e. plates, cups, glasses, silverware, pans, coffee pot, electric skillet, etc. We try to keep it stocked with dishwashing detergent, paper towels, dishcloths and dishtowels.

The dining room area offers a table with four chairs with casters, two comfortable chairs, television, VCR/DVD, and a radio.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower, toilet and vanity. Towels, washcloths, hand soap and toilet paper are normally provided.

There is a loft with three twin size beds - two extra long and one regular length. Sheets, pillows and a blanket are provided. This is accessible through the master bedroom, but there is a ladder for emergency exits from the loft to the dining room.

There is a porch on the front of the cabin where you can sit and relax and enjoy the country air and scenery.

Recently added is a larger living room with a recliner, twin day bed and sofa bed that makes into a queen sized bed. There is also a washer/dryer in the closet in this large room.

Up the stairs from the living room is a bedroom with a queen sized bed that gives a beautiful view of the Pike County Valley below. You can see for several miles from the windows of this room. You will often see deer and turkey grazing in the fields.

It is preferable that you access the loft from this room, making it easier to monitor family on the other side. But if privacy is key, you may also lock the door between the two areas.

Down the trail, Hadley Creek flows through Sun Valley Farm from east to west. You may wish to fish for a variety of species. Kids and 'Kids at Heart' may go wading or make sandcastles along the bank.

Walk the trails to take a stroll through the woods along side Hadley Creek. If you are quiet and watchful, you will most likely see deer, rabbit, turkey, squirrel or other wildlife during your stay.

The adventurous and/or athletic may enjoy a hike to the top of our Pike County Mountain for a scenic view of the valley.

Sun Valley Farm has been a member of the American Tree Farm System since 2000 and is enrolled in the Illinois Acres for Wildlife Program which preserves and enhances Habitat for Wildlife. It has been family owned since 1962.

Nestled beside the cabin and up from the creek is a mowed area providing outdoor dining equipped with picnic tables, charcoal barbeque grill, and fire ring. Firewood is available for a nominal charge.

Guests enjoy watching the powerful Norfolk Southern Railroad as it pulls freight through the broad valley heading to far away destinations.

We look forward to seeing YOU soon and sharing our family farm with YOU!

Peaceful relaxing location away from it all.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very relaxing and had everything we needed. It was immaculate and ready for our stay.

Hard to see from the road however Sarah left a light on for us so it was no problem to find!

Great location to access Quincy and Hannibal, but best of both worlds because you could stay home with the solitude, peace and quiet with the cabin. There was a lot to do in a short drive but you didn't have to bring the crazy home with you.

We plan on coming back multiple times with our family as it can sleep 7 or 8 people.

Shower was on the smaller side but absolutely not a deal breaker by any means.

Fire pit was amazing to have. Everything we needed was there and more!

very nice and clean.

It was very hot the creek had little to no water, however the addition to to bed downstairs made the stay much better not having to climb stairs.Very peaceful. Thank you again Dan and Sarah. The improvements of the outside were very appealing also.

A breath of fresh air!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using HomeAway and I have to say, we were oh so pleasantly surprised! The cabin was just what we were looking for - a remote get away far from the hustle and bustle with a wonderful connection to nature at it's finest! Located out in farmland country where you can see up to 2 miles in some places - the air is fresh, the cabin is shaded by trees, the birds are chirping, there's a creek just down a path from the cabin and there is a large field of corn growing right out the window of the bedroom on the main floor. The area around the house and paths was freshly mowed, but there were some areas left wild to invite wildlife to wander nearby. We were delighted to find a bird had nested in the eaves of the front porch right out the kitchen window, where we could sit and watch a mother bird feeding her young from inside.

There is definitely no internet reception there, but who needs to be reminded of civilization in this quaint setting? You can play DVDs, games, walk down to the creek or just sit on the front porch with a cup of coffee and revel in the beauty of nature.

If you like to sleep in, you might want to put extra covering over the windows in the bedroom on the ground floor - the morning sun is quite brilliant on that side of the house. Also, if you have a large family staying there - there is only one bathroom. Other than that, we would highly recommend this beautiful cabin!! Will definitely consider revisiting again.

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We went out sight seeing during the day and came back to the cabin and relaxed in the evening. There was a grill which we used every night for dinner. There were plenty of towels and wash cloths for the shower. Also plates, silverware, and cooking utensils. Overall a good trip, it was by the railroad tracks but didn't really bother me.
