Las Sasosa is an old farmhouse which has been lovingly restored by its owner, (an interior designer) to its original country charm. It is furnished in a contemporary and rustic style, using as many original spanish materials where possible ie. hand cast terracotta tiles, whitewashed walls, shuttered windows, beamed willow ceilings and simple comfortable furniture.
From the private terrace and pool you can experience the wild beauty of Spain, look out towards the mountains views, over fields of olive or lemon groves, and even see the sea !
There is plenty of exciting day trips to be had, the nearby rugged coastline presents handfuls of secluded beaches and coves that can be explored in solitude, especially in off peak seasons. The more popular beaches of Mojacar, Vera and Garrucha are still relatively undiscovered. Nearer to the villa is Bedar village, for those of you looking for a taste of real Spanish life, here you can find some fantastic places to eat and drink. Antas is also close by, also very Spanish still with very friendly shops, restaurants and bars.
In the year 2000, I bought the house with two friends that I worked with at an Interior design and build company. An opportunity arose to buy a rather run down farmhouse and together we thought it would be a fun project to renovate the house. So, we transformed the house that was at the time home to some donkeys and transformed it into a stunning home with a pool and large terrace. Over the years we have added extra rooms and made improvements. The other two owners and I have all since married and had children. We now all enjoy the house we can and when we can not we like to share the house and its lovely surroundings with others.
Sally Longden purchased this villa in 2000
My husband and I, our kids, my parents and my brother and his baby all stayed in this lovely villa last summer.
The rooms are cool and airy. All the decor is crisp and white with traditional local features. There was a huge dining table inside that all the kids put their toys on but probably our favourite aspect to the house (and consequently, where we spent most of our time) was the outside living area.
The owners of the villa really made this the focus area and we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner out here and read on the comfy cushions - at all times able to watch the kids on the patio below or in the gorgeous infinity pool that juts out to the mountain on the other side.
If you like to stay somewhere a little more peaceful (and a little remote) with beautiful uninterrupted views and a lot more of the 'real' flavour of Spain - then this is the perfect place to stay.
We loved our week there!
We have been to this villa now for two years running. The surrounding area is really breath taking, unlike anywhere we have been before. They filmed the spaghetti westerns nearby in the national park and you can see why - epic scenery.
We loved the house, a perfect mix of comfort, stylish decor and an amazing infinity pool for luxury! A real break - getting away from it all, yet you can drive to visit so many thing nearby if you want. We were very happy relaxing by the pool for days. The kitchen had everything we needed and the outside seating area is brilliant for shade and evening relaxing.
There was a food festival happening in the nearby town of Bedar one year and a fiesta in the other nearby village on our second visit. Plenty to see and do, great trips up in to the mountains as well. Mojacar has great beach bars and fun and further a field there are more secluded bays to visit.
You do need a car or bikes to get around.
We would go every year if we could. We loved it.
I have been going to Sasosa on holiday for many years. I go with a group of friends and the format is well rehearsed ! A leisurely breakfast on the cosy terrace, chatting and admiring the view, followed by sunbathing, swimming, reading and lots of drinks and tapas in between. The best bit is gin o'clock, just as the sun starts going down. Apart from home, it is probably my favourite place. The location and vibe of Sasosa could not be more relaxing, it's a wonderful place to spend time with friends. There is plenty to do locally and we have been known to venture out to the market or for dinner, but for me, it's beauty is the unique tranquility of the hills, Victoria
The villa is in a superb position in a small, quiet and friendly hilltop village. There are no shops, bars or supermarkets within half an hour which makes you consider every journey but it is really worthwhile. The villa is basic but provides every comfort, the pool is great if not a little chilly but I was late in the season.
I spent most the time lying by the pool and relaxing in what I called the "chill out" room. If you want a place to just chillax, read books and sleep this is the place and it must be one of the quietest places I have ever been.
The villa was spotless and had all the necessary cooking and cleaning essentials, comfortable bed and books to read.
Garrucha is about 40 minutes away and I found this town better for shopping than Mojacar. Antas, although much closer provides very few amenities.
Overall it was a great place to stay for a few weeks, thank you to Sally the owner.
My Partner and I rented this fabulous villa mid July 2009 and had a wonderful time. Yes there is easy access to the beaches, tourist trail and various other activities if you so desire, but that was not what our holiday was all about. We were looking for a peaceful piece of rural Spain, away from the hustle and bustle of city life and tourists and this certainly delivered. The villa itself is beautifully decorated with the perfect combination of all the mod-cons to ensure your holiday is complete luxury, yet keeping the rustic charm to feel like a real get away destination. However the best part of this villa is certainly the location, bedded into a mountain side you are surrounded by nothing but country side, glorious sunshine and the odd bird or mountain goat, which you can while away the hours watching from the wonderful pool.
The only possible draw back of this villa is that you will need a car as there is nothing on your doorstep, but once you have stocked up on essentials from any of the neighboring villages part of the charm is leaving them behind to return to your secret hideaway, not to be disturbed until you choose to venture out again!
The terrace at the villa gives views of the mountains and valleys of the Sierra de los Filabres. The surrounding area, as you travel from the village, is rural Spain with olive farms and fruit plantations, set amongst rugged and mountainous terrain. A great “get away from it” location for an enjoyable, peaceful holiday. Nearby is the small village of Bedar, with 5 restaurants/bars, offering a range of traditional spanish food, from tapas to great seafood. The nearby beaches of Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera Playa are within a 20 minute drive, here you will find further restaurants/bars and shops. Up into the hills sits Mojacar Pueblo (Old Mojacar), a quaint town with many bars and hidden restaurants amongst the cobbled twisted streets.
There is a naturist beach and Water Park at Vera, a marina and go-karting at nearby Garrucha. There are 5 golf courses within 25 minutes drive. Potteries to visit at Nijar, Caves at Sorbas. The Cabo de Gata natural park is 40 minutes south and is a must see for its fishing villages and quiet award winning beaches. The Mini Hollywood theme park and zoo, where the famous spaghetti westerns were made is 45 minutes away at Tabernas, where you can also visit the famous Olive Oil centre. Granda and Alhambra Palace is a 2 hour drivw via the motorway and can be visited on a day trip.
