Price is adjusted to the number of persons staying for an affordable stay even for a single traveler.

A good location to visit Victoria, Cowichan Bay, Mill Bay, Cobble Hill, Duncan, Nanaimo and also a good location for visiting wineries, Kinsol Trestle, and also for hiking, fishing, bird watching and cycling.

Occasionally, we see birds and animals. Sometimes there might be Deer, Rabbits, Squirrels, Ravens in the area, and different species of birds too, which are seen at different times of the year.

The deck has chairs, a table and a Barbeque.

We stayed at the vacation rental which is know as Moon Over Shawnigan for 1 week. We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is set on a large property with many large trees. It is like being in a forest. The house was very comfortable. The trees in summer are very refreshing, there is no need for air conditioning. The cedar trees give a very pleasant fresh air feeling.

We enjoyed using the barbeque on the sundeck.

The location is very good. It is in a rural area, but it is also only a 8 minute walk to the village. The village has several good choices for a meal and also grocery shopping and a cute little coffee shop with bakery all just a short walk from the house.

We enjoyed our stay and we hope to return again. The Cowichan valley has so many things to do, for example; we went to a winery for lunch and wine tasting, we went hiking on the trans Canada trail, and we went boating in Mill Bay. It was fun.

No smoking inside the house. There is no designated sheltered smoking area. For smokers this property is not suitable for winter occupancy. Wood-stove and electric baseboard heating. Firewood is $5 an armload. Electric limited to $6.50 per-day for daily rentals. Guests rarely use more than $6.50 per day except winter then sometimes a small extra fee is asked to help with the cost of heating. Owner's Response: About this vacation rental; This vacation rental does not include a dishwasher. The kitchen is a simple kitchen for travelers. Laundry is $8 per load, laundry fee is advertised. For bookings of 2 persons, guests have the option of using the 1 King suite room or two Queen rooms. The other rooms will remain locked until notification that extra guests will stay and payment for the extra guests is received. Manager is always available to receive extra guests and payment for extra guests. Do not smoke inside this house. Smoking inside the house will result in cleaning fee of $200. Pets which are brought into the house are also subject to a $200 cleaning fee. No exceptions.

The house worked great for us in relation to our visit with family.The owner Robert was very accommodating. The kitchen needs a few more dishes to prepare meals. Overall we were very satisfied.

Very cozy and quiet nice place

I reserved for my friends from Korea and they stayed here 2 weeks.

During their stay, Robert(site manager) was very kind and helpful.

Especially he provided very warm wood burning fireplace with reasonable price. This place is located very quite, private and peaceful area.

My friends were so satisfied with this place, I recommend this place as one of the top priority.

Christmas 2017

My wife and I spent a week here over Christmas, with our son and daughter, and their spouses. The house was everything we needed it to be. Robert, our host, was very accommodating. I initially had some concerns about some of the restrictions listed with the property, particularly some of the extra charges. How do you define "a reasonable amount" of firewood, or electricity? To me, it's "reasonable" to keep the house warm in winter. Why are there extra charges for using the laundry facilities? Perhaps Robert was just feeling the Christmas spirit, I don't know, but he offered not to charge us any extra for these things. We also had some concerns with some of the rules regarding the kitchen, particularly, but when we discussed these issues with him, we were able to come to a very reasonable understanding. I asked about having a real Christmas tree, and that was fine, he even offered to dispose of it for us after we left.

One quibble that I would have is with the large bathtub advertised in the Master Bath. It is, indeed, big enough for 2, as advertised, but you will want to have two people in it, and they should be large people who displace a lot of water. The hot water heater is not nearly capable of filling this tub. I drained the hot water tank, waited until it recharged, and drained it again, and still didn't half fill the tub (with me in it). I didn't discuss this with Robert, perhaps he has some way of dealing with it.

All in all, I must say we had a very pleasant stay, and my thanks to our host

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay in my vacation rental Daryl. Many people ask about reasonable electricity and firewood. BC Hydro the electrical utility company has a complicated billing system based on usage. My place has an electrical cost average of $0.1295 per Kwh. Customers rarely use more than $6.50 per day of electrical power. I rarely ask for additional electrical power money. $6.50 per day is reasonable for daily rentals. For daily rentals, $6.50 per day of electrical power is included in the rate, extra power used in excess of $6.50 is $0.1295 per Kwh. For weekly rentals, the power consumed is $0.1295 for each Kwh of power used. $6.50 of power is not included in weekly rentals. By charging only for power actually consumed I am able to reduce my rental rates. I were to include all electrical expenses freely with the rental cost, the rental cost would be more. By charging customers only for the electrical power actually consumed I am able to offer a lower cost for stay. My method of billing is the most accurate and reasonable method for electrical power considerations. I charge extra for laundry because I supply the room, the machines, the water and the detergent. Also, in summer there are water restrictions in the area so I need customers to conserve water. By charging for laundry I recover my expenses and also encourage water conservation. I did not charge your group for electrical, firewood or laundry because your group of 6 adults staying for 7 days paid much extra-person fee. The extra person fee was enough that I felt the need for other expenses were not needed to be charged. I was not in any spirit other than a desire to offer the best rates and service that I can in this affordable rustic rental. The house has a 60 gallon electric Hot Water Tank which is larger than 40 gallon tanks that houses usually have. The tank takes about 100 minutes to warm from cold to hot. Any hot water used during the warming process will add additional time to warm the tank. Any hot water used while the tank is being used to fill the tub will reduce the hot water which is available. When making a bath, please let others in your group know about that so that the hot water which is available in the tank will be available for use in the large tub. The tub is difficult for elderly or physically challenged persons to enter. Please watch children at all times while in the tub. Thanks Daryl and family for your stay. Have a great 2018

Very nice

What a gem of a place! If your looking to kick back..enjoy the wood burning stove..and cozy around the outdoor fire pit this is it! Ample room for all your friends and family..truly a BC wilderness experence..private but close enough for shopping and supplies if you run out. I deffinatly will be back and would recommend to any one i know. Robert was very accomidating and a real sweetheart..thanks Rob..Shane and Michelle
