Great Location , Wonderful Terrasse in Old Aix-en-Province
We stayed at 10 Av Victor Hugo for 8 days late June / early July 2016. The location of the apartment couldn't have been better . We could walk to all the markets and supermarkets within the old town within 10 mins, many were 3-5 mins away. There are some fantastic restaurants ( highly recommend La Tomate Verte (15 Rue des Tanneurs ) and an amazing Thai Massage place - SRI-AYOTHAYA ( 35 Rue Beddarrides) . Also we went to Chateau La Coste inery TWICE ... great wine/food and spectacular scenery
The apartment was small but clean and functional for 2 people. Kitchen was well stoked BUT cooking facilities were limited but we were able to cook the occasional simple meal... Most of the time we ate Provencal farmer style ( local bread, saucisson, cheese, vegetables and fruit ... and of course WINE!) which we ate on the balcony, which was fantastic .
We did have a couple of hiccups . First their was a paucity of instructions - We had to work things out as we didn't have clear directions of several things e.g. which door to enter the apartment when we arrived late night( you need to look for the apartment number(00041) on left hand corner of the door which is on your right when you walk up the stairs; The apartment has a European style washer / dryer - there were NO instructions on how to use it - we had to translate from French and use friend via social media to help us!
A couple of other minor things -
The ad says that coffee, soaps + shampoos would be provided ... but there was NO soap and only enough coffee pods for 1-2 days.
The stairs not only up to apartment but also from the kitchen to the bed/bathroom/ Terrasse are VERY difficult ( especially the stairs to the Bedroom ... where you need to be a mountain goat - LOL)
There are strong winds on the balcony - be careful when you use the umbrella - it likes to go flying over the balcony edge for a little vacation ...Luckily it returned within 2 hrs to the front door ( but didn't bring us any presents from its trip ...LOL! )
PARKING is a problem and expensive ... strongly suggest not making our mistake ... We suggest you do not bother renting a car ... take transport ( train / bus) to Aix and then rent a car for a day or two for a day or book one of the may tours!
One last point - when we did encounter minor problems Patrick/ Marianne helped solve them in a timely manner
All of that being said we REALLY enjoyed our stay and would happily stay here again
Excellent, quiet location! The terrace view can't be beat
We rented this apartment for 4 nights in July. The owner was very friendly and gave us a city map and great advice. This apartment is close to everything, including the train station. The wi-fi is fast and the bed is comfortable with plenty of blankets. The bedroom and bathroom are up some very steep stairs with a low sloped ceiling, so it's not for very tall people or anyone who has difficulty with stairs. The apartment itself is on the top floor with no elevator.
We were very grateful for the A/C and the fans both upstairs and downstairs that kept the apartment very cool. The terrace is very private and big. It gets afternoon sun, so it can get very hot mid-day, but the sunset view can't be missed. The fireworks on July 15 were right off the terrace and we had the best view!
The shower has good water pressure, but is quite small. The kitchen is fairly well stocked, but we didn't have any Nespresso pods or paper towels. It would have been nice to have more dishtowels. The burners on the stove (no oven) are very close together, which makes cooking a little challenging. There was also only 1 wine glass during our stay.
We would definitely stay here again!
