About James and Elizabeth Roach

James and Libby Roach. We're both the youngest of large families. We both grew up in

Beattyville and chose to raise our family here. We've been married for 25 years and have two daughters, 23 and 20. I am an elected official(Property Valuation Administrator) in Lee County and James works in the construction business. We love the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

James and Elizabeth Roach purchased this cabin in 2009

Why James and Elizabeth Roach chose Kentucky

We bought this 40 acre property because it is located close to our home. This 3rd generation family farm had been carefully cared for by our neighbor 'Bill' who lived a long life there. When he passed away in 2009, we purchased it from his family. We think of the property as 'Bill's Place', therefore we named it that. Bill was a real character in our small town and will not be easily forgotten. It didn't take long to realize how peaceful 'Bill's Place' was. We decided to remodel his home into the beautiful cabin it is today, and share it with others. The property is like many in our area. It was home to Bill's family where he and his siblings were raised by living off the land. There is evidence of the original homestead still there. The lawn has many fruit trees, planted by Bill. The barn wood on the walls of the upstairs in the cabin was taken from Bill's old barn. There is a picture of the barn hanging upstairs. We found heirloom, garden seeds in the barn from years ago. I was told by Bill's sister, Abby, that the rose in the front yard was brought from the original homestead and before that from another old homestead. She ask me to take care of her mother's rose. James and I feel like we are the caretakers of this wonderful property for now and will pass it on just as the family before us. The property's history shows it's self every time we are there. We feel honored be part of it.

What makes this cabin unique

Visiting 'Bill's Place' will be a peaceful getaway from the hustle of life. It will force you to slow down and enjoy nature while enjoying all the comforts of home. The area offers something for everyone. Many of our guests are here to visit family and friends for a homecoming. Many enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival held annually in October. If you love old cars, you'll want to visit Beattyville for car shows, street cruise-in and old engine and tractor shows. Lee County is known for horse riding, off road atv/jeep riding, world class rock climbing. Lee County is home to the Three Forks of the Kentucky River that offers boating and fishing. We are located near Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge, Red River Gorge Zipline Adventures. We are within minutes of The Lee County Recreational Center that offers bowling, fitness center, pizza, etc.

Lee County has 1000's of acres of the Daniel Boone National Forest located here that offers hiking, bird watching, cycling, ect.

Lee County offers Beattyville Country Club that is a 9 hole golf course.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Girls getaway at peaceful cabin

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Bill's cabin for a long weekend with my daughters. We arrived to find a cozy & quaint cabin and felt at home immediately. The best part of our stay here was seeing all the deer in the valley. We even had one come in the yard within 100 feet of us while we were sitting outside. It was so nice to relax and get away with my little family & can't wait to return again

Lovely Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This cabin really is so nice and peaceful. We loved the giant yard, the fire pit, the hot tub, etc. It made for a great weekend get-away. And the inside of the cabin was well kept and comfortable. All in all, a great experience!

Wonderful Time, above and beyond expectations.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 nights, 5 days during our daughters spring break. Libby and James were awesome! They went above and beyond our expectations. James had plenty of firewood for bond fires every night. Got to talk to him about the history of the hilltop and farm. Libby offered assistance on activities in the area. ,The cabin was very clean and comfortable. There were bikes there for the kids to ride around. We explored the trails and found a cave. The view sitting by the camp fire was amazing. They had board games to use, kitchen had everything we needed. Very nice BBQ grill on back porch. We enjoyed sitting in rockers on front covered porch during some rain. This is one of the nicest cabins we have stayed in. We have already recommended this location to a few friends and family.

Libby and James know how to offer great southern hospitality.

Perfect, peaceful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Bill's Place Cabin was exactly what I was looking for when planing our extra long family weekend to the Red River Gorge area over Easter. The home was just as described and pictured. Easy to find, very clean, secluded (zero noise from roads and/or neighbors) and Libby left a lovely welcome sign by the front door! While the cabin is small, it maximized all the space brilliantly and we were very comfortable. I traveled with my sister, brother-in-law, 8 yr old niece and 5 yr old nephew. The kids LOVED all the open area to play outside and enjoyed exploring the woods and paths around the property. We used the fire pit every night as we wound down from a day of hiking. The location is great. Easy to get to all the hiking trails in the area and also to town for the grocery store (and Dairy Queen!) I plan on returning to the area to hike more trails (so many!) and will definitely stay here. Can't imagine a better property for a Red River Gorge get-away. Thanks James and Libby!
