James and Libby Roach. We're both the youngest of large families. We both grew up in
Beattyville and chose to raise our family here. We've been married for 25 years and have two daughters, 23 and 20. I am an elected official(Property Valuation Administrator) in Lee County and James works in the construction business. We love the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
James and Elizabeth Roach purchased this cabin in 2009
We bought this 40 acre property because it is located close to our home. This 3rd generation family farm had been carefully cared for by our neighbor 'Bill' who lived a long life there. When he passed away in 2009, we purchased it from his family. We think of the property as 'Bill's Place', therefore we named it that. Bill was a real character in our small town and will not be easily forgotten. It didn't take long to realize how peaceful 'Bill's Place' was. We decided to remodel his home into the beautiful cabin it is today, and share it with others. The property is like many in our area. It was home to Bill's family where he and his siblings were raised by living off the land. There is evidence of the original homestead still there. The lawn has many fruit trees, planted by Bill. The barn wood on the walls of the upstairs in the cabin was taken from Bill's old barn. There is a picture of the barn hanging upstairs. We found heirloom, garden seeds in the barn from years ago. I was told by Bill's sister, Abby, that the rose in the front yard was brought from the original homestead and before that from another old homestead. She ask me to take care of her mother's rose. James and I feel like we are the caretakers of this wonderful property for now and will pass it on just as the family before us. The property's history shows it's self every time we are there. We feel honored be part of it.
Visiting 'Bill's Place' will be a peaceful getaway from the hustle of life. It will force you to slow down and enjoy nature while enjoying all the comforts of home. The area offers something for everyone. Many of our guests are here to visit family and friends for a homecoming. Many enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival held annually in October. If you love old cars, you'll want to visit Beattyville for car shows, street cruise-in and old engine and tractor shows. Lee County is known for horse riding, off road atv/jeep riding, world class rock climbing. Lee County is home to the Three Forks of the Kentucky River that offers boating and fishing. We are located near Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge, Red River Gorge Zipline Adventures. We are within minutes of The Lee County Recreational Center that offers bowling, fitness center, pizza, etc.

Lee County offers Beattyville Country Club that is a 9 hole golf course.
The cabin is exactly as pictured. We enjoyed every moment at the cabin and exploring the surrounding areas. The hot tub was a relaxing way to end the day. James and Libby are wonderful hosts and go above and beyond to make sure that your stay is ideal.

It pleases us greatly to hear that quests are enjoying their stay at our cabin. Our goal is to make them comfortable and hope they have a great time during their visit. We will continue to make improvements so it only gets better! We really appreciate our quests. James and Libby
Very clean and outfitted nicely. Hot tub was nice as well. We would definitely recommend this cabin to someone else as long as they are not wanting to rent it the same time as us next time we are there!!!
The property was great. It is in a very secluded location but is about 20 to 30 minutes from the slade exit. However wasn't a big issue to drive a little further for such a great place. I have stayed in several cabins at the gorge and this one was by far the cleanest and most well maintained. There is a nice flat yard with a lot of grass and an overlook into the valley. The fire-pit was great with chairs and wood available. As stated in other comments, in order to get to the two bedrooms upstairs you must walk through the downstairs bedroom. There is no door separating the downstairs bedroom and the loft bedroom at the top of the steps. However there is a door separating the two bedrooms upstairs. This was not an issue for my group but may be for some. The only suggestions I have are to better label the mailbox with the address, the gps stops at the beginning of the road and we weren't sure if we were at the right spot when arriving. Also although the hot tub seemed very clean and nice there were a few jets that weren't working and need repair. In addition it seemed like it would be nice to have a small fan available to help circulate air in the upper bedrooms when its not necessary to have the air or heat on since the windows don't have screens. Otherwise it was a wonderful trip and the owners were readily available if we needed anything. We look forward to staying again!
We truly enjoyed this cabin. The property is much more secluded than the pictures led us to believe. The cabin is nicely decorated and well stocked. Hot tub would be a great size for up to 6 people, although we only had 2. The one small disadvantage is that the bedrooms are not very private (you have to walk through each of them to get to the living room/kitchen) so I recommend that your party be comfortable with this. We wish we could have stayed longer and would love to go back.
Absolutely amazing experience. The cabin is super clean, and tastefully designed. It has plenty of space inside and the hot tub on the patio is big enough to fit 4-6 people! The location is another wonder, Natural Bridge captivated us with its beauty, however this area has many more landmarks to see. The best part about our stay was the explicable attention from James and Elizabeth, whose hospitality touched our hearts! We are very grateful to you and your cabin for a wonderful time me and my friends spent on this New Year's Eve. The memories of this place will live in us for ever!
We were in town over Thanksgiving for a climbing vacation. Cabin was great, comfortable beds, plenty of towels, and the hot tub was wonderful. Pretty location and not hard to find, even in the dark. 20 min from Miguel's, 10 minutes from MFRP climbing area. Only thing to note is 2 bedrooms are not private, and the one private bedroom has no sound privacy. But the bedrooms are separate from the kitchen and living area. We really enjoyed our stay.
This cabin is beautiful! We all loved staying here! Thank you Libby and James!
