3 bedroom 2 bath, living room plus additional space in a downstairs enclosed living and entertainment area for more family and friends!
Ocean view home with great snorkeling beach access.
Calm waters, excellent snorkeling conditions, shade, tide pools and green sea turtles are all just across the street.
From this location you can easily enjoy the ocean, beach and park areas. And it is just a short drive to water falls, botanical gardens, restaurants and shopping.
We are the proud hosts of the traditional Hawaii house.
Scott & Merin purchased this house in 2014
On our first visit to Hilo we visited Richardson and Carlsmith Beach Parks and never wanted to leave.
There are large yards in front and behind the house with fruit trees. There is ample onsite parking and a security fence for your privacy. This house is in the unique area of Hilo with walkup beach access for swimming and snorkeling.
Thank you for allowing our family the use of your home! The home was the right size for us. (5 adults and child)
We arrived at night and it was difficult to locate the entrance and we passed it the first time by. The house number is on the stonewall at the entrance to gated driveway and hard to see. We easily figured out the entrance after that.
We enjoyed our stay even though the home got very hot in the afternnon into evening even with all of the ceiling fans on in every room. The ocean breeze is blocked by trees across the street. Additional floor/pedestal fans would have helped some.
We walked to the various nearby beaches each morning. The convenience to the beach was awesome!! We appreciated having the boogie boards available for us to use.
Your home is very welcoming and relaxing. Enjoyed cooking on that awesome gas stove!!
We stayed in this beautiful Hawaiian home near the ocean for 8 days and loved it. We were with a party of 6 - myself, spouse, and children - and the house beautifully accommodated us. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, spacious living room, and well-equipped kitchen made it easy to make this house home. We also enjoyed easy access to Carl Smith Park and downtown Hilo, both of which were visited numerous times. The owners were also quick to assist when help was needed. They responded to one of our requests in such a generous way that had the effect of enhancing our holiday and accommoding our travel plans. Thank you so very much. If in Hilo again we would not hesitate to return to this lovely home!
House and yard were both beautiful. Close to the beach and within driving distance of all the attractions on the Big Island. The only drawback to this house is that it needs another air conditioner in the master bedroom or another part of the house. With temps in the 80's and the humidity in the 80's as well, it got quite hot and sticky even with the windows open and the ceiling fans on high. Other than that this was an awesome experience and I would definitely recommend this house to anyone staying in Hilo!!!
This house was excellent for our group of six adults and a toddler. We simply loved the location with easy access to Richardson and Carlsmith beach parks. We visited the latter regularly and were able to snorkel with turtles even with very elementary swimming skills.
There were no grocery stores nearby in walking distance so we couldn't just pop out to get something. It takes 3-4 miles of driving to get groceries but once we knew this, it was easy to plan for the remaining days.
There is no AC and there were moments in the afternoon when things felt a bit hot even with windows open. I'd recommend having a couple of extra floor fans. Nights were quite pleasant and enjoyable. The sound of Coqui frogs seems to be quite dominant in this area at night. Initially we thought it was a tropical bird because of the melodious nature of their croaking. This is something worth knowing if it's the kind of thing that bothers you because you'll most probably have the windows open and these little guys can get loud (Check youtube :)). For the record, none of us had any problems getting good sleep.
We had a little problem with the fridge not working on the day before we checked out. The owner tried his best to get it fixed but it was hard to get help on Easter Sunday which is understandable. They refunded a portion of our payment which I thought was a very nice gesture.
We found it very relaxing staying in this Traditional Hawaii Beach House. It has a great heritage feel and I felt like I was staying at a friend's cottage. It's got lots of space and it was wonderful having everything from snorkels to surf boards on hand. The property is very beautiful - loved hearing the birds and looking at the trees and flowers all around the yard. It's a quick trip into Hilo and a short walk to the beach. A big thank you to our hosts - I somehow had the wrong key code and emailed Merin and he got back to me instantly. We really enjoyed this especially because we felt like we were in "local" Hawaii not "tourist" Hawaii.
We had a perfect location and accomodations. Clean, modern appliances, comfortable beds with a stocked kitchen. Extra bedding, lots of gear if we needed. Our 18 month granddaughter used the play and pack for her crib and nap time. Worked out well. And we were thankful for the washer and dryer. I would give this a 5th star except, in three weeks we were there, the scheduled garbage pickup and cleaning did not happen. That took some time to resolve. We would recommend this beach house to any family. The 6 adults in our family and 1 baby were all very satisfied. There is more sleeping and recreating area in the basement but we did not need to use it.The grounds are beautiful and we could walk to beaches in both directions!!
The house is located between Richardson and Carlsmith beaches which are rare opportunities to walk up to the water in Hilo.
