3 bedroom 2 bath, living room plus additional space in a downstairs enclosed living and entertainment area for more family and friends!
Ocean view home with great snorkeling beach access.
Calm waters, excellent snorkeling conditions, shade, tide pools and green sea turtles are all just across the street.
From this location you can easily enjoy the ocean, beach and park areas. And it is just a short drive to water falls, botanical gardens, restaurants and shopping.
We are the proud hosts of the traditional Hawaii house.
Scott & Merin purchased this house in 2014
On our first visit to Hilo we visited Richardson and Carlsmith Beach Parks and never wanted to leave.
There are large yards in front and behind the house with fruit trees. There is ample onsite parking and a security fence for your privacy. This house is in the unique area of Hilo with walkup beach access for swimming and snorkeling.
We really appreciated that the kitchen was very organized and equipped plus the whole home was very clean. The baby seat and Pack and Play was so convenient for us and we did not have to bring anything like that for our little granddaughter. The little teddy bear on the bed was a nice touch for her too. We really enjoyed our stay and were lucky to have no rain while we were there, unusual for Hilo.
Just a few comments. There were only 4 chairs for our group of 6 but we did find some folding chairs in the basement. The basement is promoted as an additional space but smelled very musty. I don't think it would be very comfortable for sleeping or hanging out in.
My last comment and I don't want to appear to harsh, I think the towels could be in a bit better shape (they were quite tattered) and we never did find the 2 beach towels. Just as a comparison, the home we stayed at it Kona, had many towels both for the home and the beach, which accommodated all of us. And the Hilo home was slightly more expensive to rent than the other home.
My family of 3 stayed in this Hilo house for 3 nights in January. It was everything promised and more! I really liked the frogs and birds at night though they did keep my son awake. There was a very pretty, but territorial red bird (cardinal, I think?) in residence in the carport who kept pecking at his reflection in the car windshield/mirrors. He was quite entertaining.
The surf was quite high & stormy while we were in town which limited our swimming and lava boat tour, however we were able to snorkel at Richardson Park and swim with a HUGE Honu. Despite low visibility we saw hundreds of fish. The swells and currents were very strong, however so we had to be very careful to stay close enough to the lifeguard shack but not let the heavy waves throw us on the rocks. We were very glad we had rented a Jeep when we headed up Saddle Road to try to stargaze on Mauna Kea. We were told the road was under construction. I thought maybe some traffic cones, new asphalt and short delays. But the road is literally being TOTALLY rebuilt for a good 5 mile stretch and is down to gravel/lava rocks with huge ruts and holes. Throw in heavy, heavy rain - especially at night and it can be a challenge. We saw two low-clearance cars get stranded (luckily going the opposite direction). After all that the mountain was socked in (a very rare occurrence) so we couldn't see the stars but still had a fun adventure. Great snorkeling at Kapoho Tide pools. They are hard to find.
Would definitely come back to this house again. Maybe in the summer when it's not so stormy.
Private gated yard.
Mile from lagoons, five miles from downtown Hilo.
Thank you for allowing our family the use of your home! The home was the right size for us. (5 adults and child)
We arrived at night and it was difficult to locate the entrance and we passed it the first time by. The house number is on the stonewall at the entrance to gated driveway and hard to see. We easily figured out the entrance after that.
We enjoyed our stay even though the home got very hot in the afternnon into evening even with all of the ceiling fans on in every room. The ocean breeze is blocked by trees across the street. Additional floor/pedestal fans would have helped some.
We walked to the various nearby beaches each morning. The convenience to the beach was awesome!! We appreciated having the boogie boards available for us to use.
Your home is very welcoming and relaxing. Enjoyed cooking on that awesome gas stove!!
We stayed in this beautiful Hawaiian home near the ocean for 8 days and loved it. We were with a party of 6 - myself, spouse, and children - and the house beautifully accommodated us. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, spacious living room, and well-equipped kitchen made it easy to make this house home. We also enjoyed easy access to Carl Smith Park and downtown Hilo, both of which were visited numerous times. The owners were also quick to assist when help was needed. They responded to one of our requests in such a generous way that had the effect of enhancing our holiday and accommoding our travel plans. Thank you so very much. If in Hilo again we would not hesitate to return to this lovely home!
House and yard were both beautiful. Close to the beach and within driving distance of all the attractions on the Big Island. The only drawback to this house is that it needs another air conditioner in the master bedroom or another part of the house. With temps in the 80's and the humidity in the 80's as well, it got quite hot and sticky even with the windows open and the ceiling fans on high. Other than that this was an awesome experience and I would definitely recommend this house to anyone staying in Hilo!!!
The house is located between Richardson and Carlsmith beaches which are rare opportunities to walk up to the water in Hilo.
