Gabriel Arquilevich purchased this House in 2012
Why Gabriel Arquilevich chose Wonder Valley
I have always loved the desert, and always dreamed of a little place surrounded by silence and sand. I rented this house four years ago and kept coming back until it became clear that it's time. My wife came to love the place as well, and so it's our 'baby'.
What makes this House unique
The feel of the open skies, the beauty and play of the interior of the house, the proximity to Joshua Tree--all this and more drew us here. We love that there's no fence--just the open desert.
OUTSIDE only! Thank you!
Yes, but please no redecorating or kids' art!
No fire outside if it's windy! Please no food in kitchen drain. It clogs pipes. Only TP in bathroom

An absolutely magical place for a quiet retreat for two
This was an absolutely magical place for a quiet retreat for the two of us. The home is open concept with beautifully colored walls and decor. The tile work throughout is exquisite (the best shower room EVER). We loved the large windows and comfy furnishings and lighting.
It is obvious that the owners love this space as everything is well-cared for, clean, non-cluttered and perfectly placed. We adored it, too! (As did the many who stayed there and wrote in the guestbook!)
The home was equipped with all the essentials including everything needed to prepare meals onsite so we didn't miss some of the most glorious sunsets we have ever seen (followed by the most amazing starry night skies). We did not miss a single sunrise - got up each morning to wait and watch.
One of the many treasures of this Desert Wonderland is the supreme quiet inside the home as well as outside. The silence is absorptive and soothing and we found our time there restful and rejuvenating. The surrounding desert landscape is so lovely. We were fortunate to be present at the peak of the wildflower bloom. Between the house and surrounding desert we captured amazing photo memories!
Gabriel was a helpful and responsive host. Everything was exactly as described in his detailed instructions which made for an easy arrival and departure. He provided some great tips for local hikes - one of the new ones for us was the Amboy crater. Hiking a volcano is now off our bucket list!
The home is within a short drive to all amenities and less than an hour away from the Coachella valley (Palm Springs/Cathedral City) where we enjoyed some hot springs and the Thursday Night Street Fair. After all of the people and noise, it was always good to return "home" to our retreat.
We loved this Desert Wonderland and were sad to leave...we hope to return very soon. Thank you Gabriel & Jaymie for sharing this desert treasure.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful couple of nights at the desert wonderland. Perfectly remote, beautifully funky little house and kitchen, and perfect outdoor set up for a long night by the fire stargazing, after a long day of hiking in the park. Was sad to leave!
Gabriel was totally accessible and helpful throughout the weekend, although we got in and out of the place with no problem. Cannot recommend this place enough for a Joshua Tree getaway.
Enjoyed my stay at Desert Wonderland. The location feels like your far from civilization (mountains everywhere you look) but your only fifteen minutes from the Joshua Tree entrance. The best part of my stay was the backyard, the sunsets were stunning. The interior is full of nice details and includes one of the coolest showers ever. The hosts were helpful and easy to get in touch with. Nice relaxing vacation spot that I definitely recommend .
Perfect desert getaway
The Desert Wonderland is the perfect place for people who want to unplug, experience each sunrise/sunset, and stargaze at night. The house is far enough from the nearby homes to feel alone (but not too lonely), and you feel as though you are in the middle of the desert even though you are a 20 min drive from downtown. The hosts could not have been more accommodating, they have really created something special here. Make sure to check out JT Saloon and 29 Palms Inn...and set your alarm for each sunrise!
Wonderful Escape in Wonder Valley
Excellent getaway in Wonder Valley. This is a place to get away from pretty much everything. It’s remote and beautiful. If the desert is your thing, then go for it. House has the basics, plus very cool artsy flavor. Close to Joshua Tree. Great place!
A great get away for the couple that wants some peace and quiet :)
My husband and I wanted to go somewhere that was in the "middle of nowhere" type of feel. I came across this on VRBO and fell in love with the authenticity of the place.
The host of this house was the best. Quickly returned my messages and did everything in his power to make our stay the best. The place itself is great. Super comfy bed in the bedroom and a space heater that made it so lovely. There is no TV which is perfect because I wanted to unplug at this place. There is a fireplace inside which we used and was great! They did have a firepit outside but did not have the chance to use it because we loved using indoor fireplace :) We were able to cook lovely meals in their kitchen. They have the basics in the kitchen so if you like to do gourmet meals like my hubby I suggest bringing in your own spices :)
Overall I would def. recommend this place for couples who are looking for some R&R :)
Check out the Glass Outhouse Gallery! Five minute drive. Amboy Crater is 35 minutes away--wonderful drive and incredible, surreal hike to top of crater. A simple walk up the road across Godwin and you have lovely 360 degree views.
