The Little Green Cabin a very rustic getaway in the heart of Hope, Alaska. This vintage cabin is an ideal retreat for the savvy camper who wants the comforts of a real bed and wood stove without the grand expense of luxurious living. We describe this cabin as the next step up from tent camping. It is extremely comfortable, cozy, warm and affordable. There aren't many bells and whistles, and the campers who most love this cabin are looking for just that - an isolated retreat that removes you from the every day busy-ness of life. The Little Green Cabin a queen size bed in the loft (all linens provided) and 2 pull-out couches in the living area (if using the pull-out couches, you will want to bring a sleeping bag or other such linens, as only the queen size bed in the loft includes linens). Both pullout couches cannot be fully laid out at the same time very easily, so most guests choose either the single bed or full sized couch bed. But, if you get creative, it can be done.
The wood stove and electric heater will keep you plenty warm in the evenings, and the mini fridge will keep you food plenty cool (be sure to bring firewood if you would like to strike up the stove or fire pit).
The Little Green Cabin is approximately 300 square feet with an additional loft overhead. It is sweetly decorated with country touches, and is an adorable retreat at an extremely affordable price. The cabin has a front porch for relaxing on, and a small portable gas grill to cook up your dinner. The fire pit is shared with the neighboring historic Hirshey Cabin, and it is surrounded by wooden chairs and a picnic table. The Little Green Cabin has a small dinette set for playing cards or enjoying a snack indoors.
The Little Green Cabin is considered a 'dry cabin' in that it does NOT have running water. There is a dedicated outhouse for using the facilities, but there is no sink or shower. We recommend guest bring their own drinking and non-potable water. Coin-op shower facilities and laundry machines are located 2 doors down at the Dacha general store. While the Little Green Cabin doesn't have consistent wifi, a signal from the owner's cabin nearby can frequently be picked up. Ask for the password when you arrive.
Please note that the cabin was recently painted and the furniture has been replaced, so the photos are slightly outdated. New photos are soon to come.
The Little Green Cabin is located at Mile 16.25 on the Hope Highway, just 1/4 mile from downtown historic Hope, Alaska - the perfect walking distance to all of Hope's nearly untouched attractions. Just take a right at the large wooden fish on the side of the road.
I read through all the reviews, and I can see that some people are expecting a posh stay at a "backpacker cabin." We were expecting something super rough, but we were shocked by how clean and cozy the cabin is. It's well-stocked, accurately described, and very warm. I guess it's not for everyone (certainly not someone expecting 5star accommodations) but we loved it and can't wait to come back!
Firstly, this is not a complaint about the “rustic” of a cabin. We are from Europe, and are used to travel with the lack of commodities of the modern world. Myself and my partner have been travelling around the world and love to be backpackers.
This cabin is far from “adorably and cozy”. The pictures are out of date and in short, it is worse than stay the night, at someone's backyard hut. Worst because the price of the stay is far away from adorably and cozy. And staying in someone's backyard is normally free.
For two women, the lack of any security at the place...the lack of locks and right in the middle of bear country makes totally not recommendable . At our arrival they mentioned that “the door will be open for you”. Of course, it will be open! As said no lock.
Messy, unclean, the sheets stacked on a roll wrapped on a blanket. I was afraid to touch them!. Two couches -dirty- take away the cabin space. The fireplace was right by the wall protected by some metal pieces. Maybe that was secure enough for a fire, but we did not even try. We decided to not even spend the night and find a hostel around.
Just for example to mention that the night before we stayed in cabin at Seward and, for only a few dollars more, the coziness and the adorably of the cabin is far far away from this nonsense place.
Little Green Cabin is a bit corky, but totally clean and worked out great for us. A bit hard to figure out where to pull in and park when we arrived in the dark, but a great location and easy to find. If you plan to use both pull out couches the configuration is a bit wonky, but it worked. Owners were very helpful and I would rent this cabin again for sure.
The pictures are way out of date. So were the amenities. The manager was nice and humble came by and introduced herself gave a brief summary of the very limited things to do in Hope Alaska. Quite little place. Was under the impression the place had more because of then picture. We made the best of it though.
The place was very much as advertised. The cabin itself was very clean and perfectly comfortable to sleep in. The outhouse was...well...an outhouse, but also totally fine. I really liked the firepit and it was an easy and scenic walk to downtown strip for dinner. Had a relaxing night there!
