A wonderful retreat from the crowds in old Florence. A car and mosquito repellant are necessary. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. Large grocery store in the town. Situated among olive orchards so maybe not great for people with olive tree allergy. A wonderful place- highly recommended.
This is a great property with a beautiful view of Florence. It was super clean and well set up for our needs. We enjoyed the bottle of wine and snacks left for us after a long day of travelling. The rooms are lovely and there was plenty of space for us and the other couple we were travelling with. Our host was very helpful and available as we were trying to find the place, as it is a bit difficult to find, even with GPS
If you are driving, they are not kidding when they say steep and narrow roads. We managed just fine, but the drive up and down the hill was something we did not enjoy, as we are from Canada and not at all used to driving on roads so narrow.
Overall though I would definitely recommend this property. It it’s great for its proximity to Florence, the views, and the size for a group travelling together.
We stayed for 5 days and had the best time ever!!
Myself and 6 friends who wanted a nice break for our friends 30th. Francessco couldn't do enough for us! He even asked his mother to take us shopping when we arrived as it was very hot. He then took me to the shops so i could buy a cake for my friends bithday and alloed us to keep it in his fridge as we wanted to suprise her! I would def be back with my family. I cannot thank you enough for such an amazing trip! It really is like home away from home!!
We had such a wonderful stay at this villa. Francesco was an amazing host. Dinner on the veranda cooked by Theresa is a must and was probably the best meal we had in all of Italy. Each bedroom has a high powered fan above the bed which made sleeping in The July heat comfortable. The pool and view from the olive trees were both amazing. Everyday we walked down hill to the bus stop. You can give the bus driver 2.50 euro per person for a ticket but you are better off eventually finding 1.50 prepaid tickets bc sometimes the bus driver was out of tickets and we couldn’t get on the bus. We only walked up the hill once. We had grocery bags and it was 95 degrees and we do CrossFit. We decided to never do it again and always took a cab home especially up the hill. Cabs ran between 20-30 euros from the taxi stand at the train station. It was more with luggage. You can not hail a cab in Florence, you need to call a cab or find a taxi stand. There is no Uber. Francesco called a cab for us from the villa a few times and that helped. We had 7 people so needed 2 cabs. Sometimes you can find a cab to fit 5 or 6 but it was hard. Highly recommend a day trip to Lucca and Pisa. It’s pretty easy to get to the train station then get your selves to these places instead of doing a Viator trip. We rode bikes around the walls of Lucca and it was amazing! Plenty of bike rentals right off the train. This villa gets you out of the crowded city and gives you a beautiful place to relax with a glass of wine in the evenings. The hosts live on the property and were always helpful and tended to our needs if we had any. There was fresh basil and parsley in our kitchen that was grown on site that was a lovely touch. My kids hung out on the hammock frequently and loved a dip in the pool after a long hot day in the city. We often walked up the hill into the olive trees to see the donkeys and horses after dinner. Just an FYI bring bug spray to Italy. Every place we stayed in every city had mosquitoes. Not something you think about but wish we had. We had a very memorable time here and will never forget our Time in Florence.
wonderful villa experience
We had a wonderful experience staying at this property. The grounds were peaceful and inspiring, the property was clean and spacious and beautiful, and Francesco was a fantastic, helpful and gracious host. I highly recommend this property, especially if you like animals and open spaces away from the hustle of the city.
Large multi-room apartment with breathtaking views of Florence
Overall the place is fantastic. Beautiful views from both the bedrooms and the swimming pool. Quiet, peaceful setting, kind and warm proprietors and comfortable area both in and out of the villa. I believe we picked one of the hottest weeks to spend here so the lack of air conditioning was especially hard to bear but as things cooled off toward the end of the week, we quickly forgot about the first couple of nights. We would definitely book here again if and when we get the chance.
Castello is an area of great historical importance. Several Renaissance villas are located within walking distance from the apartment. The Villa Reale and Villa Petraia, both belonging to the Medici family, are famous for their architecture and as striking examples of Italian formal gardens. Villa Petraia was also home to king Vittorio Emanuele II, who summered in Castello when Florence became the capital of Italy in 1865. Further down the road from Villa Petraia, you’ll see Villa Bel Riposo. Carlo Lorenzi Collodi, the author of Pinocchio lived here while he was writing this popular story. All the characters in Pinocchio were drawn from real persons living in and around Castello. Castello is an area of great natural beauty. Narrow roads wind along ancient stone walls up the mountainside. Marvel at the rustic farm houses and splendid villas that sit amongst acres of silver-leafed olive trees. Guests are invited to stroll throughout the Castello apartment's olive grove.
