About the property

5Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps up to 5)

Lora’s Cottage, an original Birch Bay beach cottage, lovingly restored with modern appliances and furnishings while leaving the original character of the cottage

If you want some of the best and easiest beach access in Birch Bay, try Lora's Cottage. You'll find several miles of open beach to walk or bike. When the tide is out there are miles of tide flats on which to make sand castles or clam. And one of the features which sets this cottage apart is a delightful gated, wooden foot bridge that leads to a privately owned spit where you can find your own driftwood log to sit on and gaze at sunsets, sometimes peaceful in pastel blue and yellow or raucous in vivid color splashed across the sky.

Lora's Cottage inspires comments like 'That cottage is sooo cute! as walkers stroll past the white picket fence. Modern comforts & new furnishings simply make Lora's mellow age all the more delightful! Old fashioned wood windows let partial views of the Bay & sunshine in, while original wood floors throughout & a tiled wood stove give warmth & a great atmosphere for summer vacation or a romantic getaway. (wood provided in winter, electric heat throughout)

One bedroom has a very comfy queen memory mattress bed plus our second cable TV, an LCD flat screen. The second has a full bed. A leather queen sofa sleeper in the living room sleeps two more. This sofa is made by American Leather and has no bars under it. It is very comfortable! Lora's is a perfect little cottage for two, comfortable for four and sleeps 6 in a pinch.

A short walk south along the Bay brings you to Birch Bay's 'C' shop--known all over the county for its European trained chocolatier's - watch as they craft. You'll find pastries, breads, pizza and lunch there as well. Though not open winter months, you can order ahead Christmas and Easter goodies. Across the street is Bay Cafe, open year 'round. A short walk north on Birch Bay Drive takes you to Shores, Tradewinds Cafe, and CJ's Restaurants, more restaurants & golf. Or how about just relaxing on your own old-fashioned covered sitting porch at the cottage with lemonade or iced tea? Or grind your own coffee beans for that perfect cup. In the new little tea cupboard is a vintage china tea set. Chances are you'll find some Stash tea in the cupboard and...there are some crystal wine goblets! We have added a new Weber grill, beautifully clad in green enamel and there's a large yard, too, for picnics & play.

About Patti

We purchased Lora’s Cottage in 2004. We own 3 cottages all on Lora Lane. We rent 2 of them almost exclusively vacations. After retiring, we moved into the 3rd cottage. Our other cottage is Seashell Cottage, VRBO # 37252.

We believe in being locally connected and belong to the Birch Bay and Blaine Chambers of Commerce, Bellingham – Whatcom Tourism and Go Northwest.

Why Patti chose Birch Bay

We were attracted to Lora's Cottage because it is one house from the beach and also includes shared private beach rights to an undeveloped portion of the spit at the mouth of Terrill Creek. One of the features we truly enjoy about this property and Seashell Cottage (across the lane from Lora's) is that there is no railroad track to cross. This type of beach property is not common in Washington State. So it's very easy to get to the beach and that was very important to us. It's away from the hustle and bustle of urban living and yet has a wonderful year 'round holiday good times flavor. Also we were drawn by the low bank beach, no hills or berms or bluffs to hike down. The cottage itself held so much charm and we knew it had a lot of potential because of that before we renovated. It is really fun to go crabbing in August. We catch a lot of crab and one of the things we enjoy is sharing it with others and upon many occasions are able to share with our rental guests. The non-stop water views of the entire area, whether Birch Bay, Blaine or Semiahmoo were a tremendous attraction to us as well as the great diversity of the area.

What makes this cottage unique

It is so lovely to sit on the front porch, we really enjoy having drinks with either friends or family and watch the sunset over the water, feel the gentle breeze from the west. We were attracted, too, by how easy it is to just walk over to the beach whenever we feel like it, maybe to watch eagles or watch a spectacular sunset. Our daughter loves the 'C' Shop and we are anticipating her children enjoying it too and having memories of goodies planted in their heads in just a few years when they're old enough. The cottage is a little dollhouse and was so much fun to decorate.

Cute cottage with way too many rules and restrictions

  • 1 of 5

Think about what type of vacation you want before booking this property! The cottage was very clean, cute and in a great location; however, the property managers made us feel uncomfortable and our trip was strained because of all the " policies" that the property had. If you want a relaxed vacation with family around this would not be a good place for you!

We were down for a family gathering with our two young kids and wanted to have a nice place where people could come and have a drink and dinner after spending the day at the beach. We rented Loras cottage and our family rented the larger cottage next door for convenience and to spend evenings catching up. We weren't allowed a family BBQ as it was considered and "event" and were told we would have to take it to the beach. They said it was a county bylaw, but after speaking to the sheriff he said he had never heard of that before. The managers property is situated directly on the yard of the cottage and they are there at all times patrolling the grounds. We asked to set up a tent so the kids could stay in it and that was an issue. Any visitors that came to stop in and say hi, we're not allowed to park anywhere ( even though there was plenty of space) because their car was not registered. Overall we felt uncomfortable and constantly being watched while we were there with our Family and would not ever recommend or book this cottage again.

This is a very cozy cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The location is perfect, peaceful and close to beach. The beds are very firm and the fold-out couch is very comfy. All the comforts of home in a rustic cottage with an amazing yard.

Best organized/equipped vrbo!

  • 5 of 5

1. Clean 2. SUPER well organized 3. Pleasant setting 4. Comfortable bed 5. great and responsive local manager 6. good value

Very convenient location, very comfortable and pleasant to sit out on the deck - I had several questions for the manager and she was great! This was probably the only place we've stayed where my very well organized wife was really impressed by how everything was available, labeled, extra everything ... really, really nicely done.

Thanks!

From the front porch you and your family can enjoy the beautiful hour long sunsets. There are miles of beaches to explore and lots of day trips to enjoy. You will actually save money because you can cook in the well stocked kitchen. Also there is grill and laundry. G

A magical little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful week away in this very sweet and quaint seaside cottage. We enjoyed exploring Birch Bay, the surrounding areas but especially treasure hunting on the beach. Lora's cottage was warm, cozy, clean and inviting. Owners Kelvin and Patti were gracious, friendly and kind hosts. I highly recommend their property. In fact, I've already booked a return getaway! Only an hour away from home! We are looking forward to going back!

Nice cottages, cute shops, sandy beaches

  • 5 of 5

The cottages are nicely decorated with modern but furniture fitting the cottage. We enjoyed walking to the local C Shop to get cinnamon rolls. The beach was also nice, especially when the tide was out with a lot of sand to walk on.
