The Danish love of form, style and comfort fills every room of this sunny ground floor apartment in a 1950's cottage on Hudson's Union Street.
Drive in the driveway, park your car and enter a world we created to make your visit to Hudson as laid back and enjoyable as a visit to wonderful Copenhagen. A large comfortable living room, two cool bedrooms, a cosy study give way to a sizeable kitchen with an enclosed porch dining room.
Parking off the street for at least two cars.
A couple of minutes walk takes you to Warren Street, the antiques shops, art galleries and some of the best restaurants in Hudson, Bonfiglio & Bread for morning coffee and croissant, Le Gamin Country for lunch, Crimson Sparrow for dinner, within 2-5 minutes walk away. Of course, further down Warren Street there are many other choices to discover and delight you.
And if you wish to relax at home, TV and WiFi in every room. Neflix and Hulu Plus are included. Upper Union is a quiet, safe, residential neighborhood and also is within walking distance to Amtrak, the River Front Park and Basilica Hudson art and performance space.
Kim and Jennifer have lived in Hudson for 20 years and have loved every minute of it. It's an amazing City and we hope you'll fall in love with it as we did.
Danish antiques dealer, golfer, bon vivant, you name it, and I've been a citizen of the cool City of Hudson, NY for over 20 years.
Kim Arenskjold purchased this apartment in 2013
The house is interesting architecturally and is located in a quiet area but is located within walking distance to all Hudson has to offer.
Large spacious kitchen with sunny enclosed porch dining room, TV with Netflix and Hulu Plus in every room. Quiet outdoor picnicking area in back.
Kim met us at his charming house, an eclectic mix of mid-century modern and antique pieces (he owns a large and interesting antique store on Warren Street). The photos on the web are quite representative. In addition to the two bedrooms with comfortable queen beds, there is a spacious living room and also a den. Three flat screen TV's with good internet connections/Netflix, etc and a kitchen that is pretty well equipped. The kitchen is eat-in but the sun porch is a cozy dining room for 6. Lots of off street parking and in season, the back terrace is equipped with outdoor furniture and BBQ. Warren Street with its shops and restaurants is a block away and basically one does not need a car unless out of town outings are planned. This was a great spot from which to explore sites on both sides of the Hudson such as Hyde Park, Tivoli, Rhinebeck and the nearby Catskills. We had a lovely family weekend. Dr. J. Overall it was a great few days in Kim & Jennifer's house. We would recommend it to our friends. Convenient location, too.
I could not have been happier with my stay at the Danish Modern Upper Union St. Guest House. Kim and Jennifer were lovely hosts, I enjoyed talking to them about Hudson and also enjoyed feeling like I had a large and beautiful private space. It's comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. There are also much appreciated details such as: fresh bars of soap in the bathroom, plenty of soft towels, dish soap in the kitchen and space to hang and store clothing in each bedroom. The house is quiet, parking is easy and it's just a block from Warren St., so you can't get better than that. I am already trying to figure out my next stay...
The listing description was on target - the house was exactly as described. The property was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen appliances and utensils were top notch and we enjoyed eating in the sunny enclosed porch.
Jennifer was the best! She was very welcoming upon our arrival, meeting us at the house and was readily available and very responsive to any questions we had. In addition to providing fresh croissants, milk and juice upon our arrival, Jennifer took the time to orient us to the area by pointing out nice places to check out on Main Street, which is only a couple of minutes from the house. Also, Jennifer and her husband, Kim, own a wonderful antique shop on Main Street. Another place to check out when you visit the area.
The property is centrally located to many great attractions and restaurants such as Hyde Park, NY, where you can tour the FDR National Historical Museum and Presidential Library and many other historical and cultural sites. Main Street in Hudson is a fun place to walk, the people are friendly and the cafes and shops along Main Street are diverse and unique.
The only suggestion that I would make is that the living room could use better light for reading. Other than this minor suggestion, I would highly recommend this property! Our experience was thoroughly enjoyable and would like to go back for another visit in the future!
Thank you Jennifer and Kim for a wonderful vacation experience!
* Beautiful decor, even nicer than the website photos
* Lots of space; large rooms, good flow, airy and bright
* Private parking
* Excellent location for shops/restaurants on Warren St.
* A good base for Hudson Valley and Albany area
* AC worked very well
* Toilet broken on arrival (no chain to attach handle to flushing mechanism). Was repaired about 24 hours into our stay.
* Unexpected upstairs tenant. Due to earlier reviews citing footfall noise, I inquired specifically whether we would the only renters during our stay. I was told there were no tenants for that period, and our arrival instructions said to park anywhere, there was no one else on the property. When middle of the night foot traffic woke me, it was a bit freaky since we'd heard nothing prior in the house. In the morning we confirmed with the owner that a tenant was in residence. The footfalls were a sleep issue that night also. Note, this was not a noisy/partying person; but as a light sleeper I was awakened by the footsteps despite using a sound machine.
I rented this property for four out of town relatives attending our daughter's wedding during Memorial Day weekend in 2016. The apartment was as described in the VRBO advertisement. The property was clean and well maintained. The owner met us at the apartment for check-in and gave helpful instructions about check-out. He was flexible with the check-out time, since we needed a few more hours of the normal time due to train schedule to NYC. Overall we were satisfied with the property and would strongly recommend this to others.
Hudson is a town that contains many restored historic buildings, many of them quite early. Hudson is known for its arts and antique galleries and restaurants, most of them located on a main street going through town by the name of Warren. All easily within walking distance from our property. Hudson's location is close to the Catskill and the Berkshire Mountains so to stay in Hudson gives one access to the many activities in these areas, including art and musical events. Hudson itself is located right on the Hudson River.
