Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Sandy - The little bear on Cedar Creek

Situated 25 min. from PDX, 35 min to Portland, we are the gateway to the Gorge,

Our home is a balance of terraced gardens, stone paths, deck and Jacuzzi under a canopy of Cedar trees. Situated 25 min. from PDX, 35 min to Portland, we are the gateway to the Gorge, walking trails of the Sandy River, and 25 minutes from Mt. Hood.

The entire backyard of our property sits on the bank of Cedar Creek. A stunning Mt. Hood glacier sourced tributary that feeds into the Sandy River nearby. Walk out of the master bedroom right onto the deck overlooking the Creek. The dining room as well leads out directly onto the deck. Sit in the Jacuzzi on the deck, relax and watch the water flow downstream, or find your favorite reading spot on one of the several benches or swings on the property. Relax and read by the coy pond and small waterfall.

The layout of the house is one of many vaulted ceilings, windows and natural light, creating a unique contemporary fusion with a fun rich palate of colors to warm you. There are two wood burning stoves. One is a fireplace insert in the family room and the other is a wood pallet stove in the dining room (each room including the bathroom has its own heaters, the house has been recently completely insulated)

The master bedroom with a queen size bed, has a wall of windows looking out onto the creek, and the giant cedars in the backyard. You will fall asleep to the sounds of the creek rushing by. You have your own direct door access to the deck and the Jacuzzi.

The 2nd bedroom is a fully functional den with a twin sofa that folds out into either 2 separate singles or one full size bed, there is a wall mounted internet compatible TV for you to use your Netflix, Hulu etc. The den has a desk with several full large monitors to check in at home or work as needed. There is high speed wireless internet throughout the house. (The internet speeds are suitable for financial trading, movie down streaming and gaming.)

The 3rd bedroom is in most case will not be accessible - special request can be made. This bedroom has a loft with a Japanese full-size futon, an electronic piano in the downstairs sitting area awaits your fingers.

We are on a water well, the water is delicious, but shower pressure needs patience to get up to speed. just turn it on a little ahead. We ask to run dishwasher and washing machine alternatively after showers and last thing at night. A little conservation and water management. If it is not a problem great, if so, not a great fit.

The kitchen is fully functional and is open to the family room, with stools for counter eating (great for kids). There is a slight burn mark next to the stove (sorry gift from a guest). The bathroom is heated with a claw foot tub. There is a full size utility room with washer and dryer. The garage is for the owner only, but there is plenty of parking in the drive way.

About David Goldstein

I have lived in Prague, CZ and Krakow, PL for over 14 years, then Mexico city for 3 years and Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada for a little under two years..

We Moved to Oregon about 3 years ago, and are thrilled to share our experiences here with anyone wanting to come and visit and see what this area has to offer.

My wife and I live at the base of Mt. Hood just outside Portland, Oregon, a stunningly beautiful but treacherous little volcano for climbing, fun skiing and wonderful hikes.

We enjoy mountain climbing, rock climbing, scuba diving and trekking. Most of all great food, cooking ourselves or having others cooking and just getting to eat it - anywhere in the world anytime.

We welcome you to stay at our home and relax and let the beauty of being in the quiet of the cedar tree forest, alongside the rushing glacial water of Cedar Creek which runs the entire length of our back yard.

We look forward to hosting you, whether it be for a short retreat from Portland to release the work day stress or from anywhere in the world.

A magical place

  • 5 of 5

The setting is breathtaking. The river--stream that flows through it is surrounded by ferns, magnificent cedar and air that floats a flowered scent. The home is beautiful and a place of peace and relaxation.

David was very helpful and wanted to make sure all was good.

I would definitely recommend it.

Relaxing escape to nature.

  • 5 of 5

We were attracted to the photos of the backyard and the creek running through the back of the property, and we weren't disappointed! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The inside decor was bright and colorful, and the creek was soothing - hours were spent on one of the swings overlooking the water.

Thank you, David! We hope to return at some point in the near future!

Get away trip

  • 5 of 5

Waited with excitement to arrive. Was not disappointed. Wow, a beautiful cabin and a beautiful property with all of its natural beauty enhanced with just the right touch of landscaping. I have never seen or been so close to trees so big, tall and beautiful. A hot cup of coffee, the whispering trees and an enchanting brook to listen to in the morning before heading out to Astoria, Cannon Beach, Pumpkin Ridge, Mount Hood, Coming back in the evening to the setting sun filtering through the tall cedars, a beautiful display of light, with all shades of green presented to me in flashing glory, relaxing in the hot tub, with the brook telling me how wonderful life is. We had a wonderful stay, with a beautiful place to come home to after our daily adventures in the beautiful state of Oregon.

Many unforeseen drawbacks and poor customer relations

  • 1 of 5

Renters beware--if you only read the first few lines, take note of what we wish we knew prior to contract signing and arrival:

--First, the house is listed as a 3-bedroom but you are only allowed to use 2 (we were informed of this upon arrival to the property and advised to have our elderly relatives double bunk with our young child or sleep on the living room couch);

--Second, the water pressure in the house is very low restricting showering and usage of washer and dish washer (again only informed upon arrival--told we could only use one of the above appliances at a given time and both only in the late evening; showering was with a trickle of water even after letting run for "5 minutes first," as instructed);

--Third, the contract is so exhaustive to preclude litigation even with death occurring on the property (yet within 20 seconds of arrival our child fell on the deck due to slipperiness and my husband put his back out slipping in sludge on the driveway the next day);

--Fourth, you pay a cleaning fee but are informed that after a "reasonable amount of light cleaning" you would be charged a steep hourly rate. The house was dusty and there was hair in the bathtub when we arrived yet the stipulation was so broad that we cleaned thoroughly to avoid additional, frivolous charges after check out;

--Fifth, the wireless didn't work and required us using a second account;

--Last, you have to be very able-bodied to access the hot tub and bath tub--there are no steps into the hot tub and the bath tub is a high clawfoot tub with no step stool.

When we attempted to reconcile our concerns with the owner--requesting reimbursement of some of the fees due to the challenges of the property--we were met with defensive argumentation and advised we should have been aware of low water levels due to the regional drought. Not informed consent upon rental and poor customer relations.

Pretty property but the pictures are from a few years back when the deck was newly upgraded. The trees make for a shady space so plan to leave for a full day when the sun is out.

Without the above impediments would have more enjoyed the artistic design and space.

We plan to follow up with the Better Business Bureau and Rip Off Report now that we received back our deposit.

Owner's Response: I'm committed to making my guests' stay an exceptional one and am disheartened to receive the 1-star review. To offer clarifications to future guests: 1. Sarah made her reservation for 3 guests. The listing and VRBO platform itemize costs based on # of guests and whether or not the guests request the 3rd bedroom. Extra fees for 5th & 6th guests and the 3rd bedroom are disclosed at the time of booking. I prepared the house according to the reservation details. 2. The house is on a shared well and it takes time for water pressure to come up. I politely asked that the dishwasher or washing machines be operated in the evening. I disclose this to guests prior to and on arrival. This has never been an issue with any of my previous 50+ guests over the past 2 years. 3. The charm of the house is in its creek-side setting under the shades of giant cedar trees. When I receive guests with children, I always remind the parents to keep a watchful eye as there are natural hazards. Rocks and woods are slippery when wet and the guests were informed both verbally and by the literature at the house to be cautious when it's wet outside. It's also why the 3rd bedroom and its loft is only available upon request as it's a fall risk for children. The rental contract is a standard one used by other rental properties in the area. 4. The cleaning fee is as disclosed at time of booking. I've never charged additional fees and the wording is there to cover extreme cases if the property were vandalized. I personally walked Sarah and her husband through all the rooms in the house on arrival and they were happy with the cleanliness of the house. 5. We have 2 wifi networks. Within 15min of the guests informing me of their password problem, they were given a new one that worked. Last, the hot tub and clawfoot tub are as pictured and of standard heights. sara 6', he is 6'7" -funny. The guests never informed us that they required special accommodation. Our previous guests have ranged from the young to the elderly. Sarah never communicated her concerns, besides the wifi issue, during the stay. She only complained after check-out to demand a refund as she felt she could not accommodate the additional guests after I already gave the extra bedroom usage free of charge. It's disappointing that after many positive hosting experiences, I have to defend against guests who misrepresent the # of guests at time of booking to demand monetary reimbursement when services were provided in good faith.

Serene Cabin on Cedar Creek

  • 5 of 5

If you want a relaxing getaway, this is it! We enjoyed breakfast on the patio, listening to the small rapids of the creek. The hottub was a great place to start the mornings & end the evenings. Although secluded, it was very close to downtown Sandy, where there are shops & grocery stores. If we need to rental in Sandy again we will definitely return to this serene cabin on Cedar Creek!

Birthday weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are considering purchasing a house or land and building a house in the Sandy area, so we decided to stay in there for my birthday getaway. It just so happened to be an extremely hot few days, and the house is clearly built for very cold weather. Oops.... Well, we bought a fan to make sleeping better, as the main bedroom doesn't have windows that open.

We enjoyed the town of Sandy, were surprised and delighted by the local food options (even Thai! and the local pizza place was great with nice staff, delicious food!). Proximity to Mt Hood was our favorite part, and we spent a lot of time just exploring the area and finding the most random places to hang out to get a feel for local culture.

We also did some touristy things, like the Fruit Loop, and even visited an Alpaca farm and bought natural yarn! We also ate the local berries, and had Marion berry French toast at Multnomah Fall Lodge (amazing to eat a delicious breakfast while viewing a gorgeous waterfall!)

I didn't get to enjoy the yard as much as I would have liked due to the heat and Mosquitos. Also, the neighbor houses were closer than I expected. Not super close, but I imagined the house to be more isolated.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. Got some great reading and relaxing time in.

Owner's Response: I am glad you had a great visit and enjoyed the area. Thank you for your feedback on the amenities of the house and the heat wave we experienced. We and all of Western Oregon and Washington State experienced an unprecedented record-breaking heat wave with temperatures over 100f topping out at 105f. The Main bedroom has a fully screened door that opens up onto the deck overlooking the creek., letting in a full breeze, from the glacial fed creek. Most homes and cabins in the area tend not to have ac, but there is a ceiling fan in the living room to circulate the air and fans are in the master bedroom closet for use. No doubt it was hot, but cooler down under the cedar trees on the creek then in town or in Portland. Mosquitos are very mild but anywhere in the forest there are insects. We are in a residential area with homes spread out on our dirt road. There are 8 homes on the entire dirt road, but there are only two directly visible from our property.
