About Glenn Odegard

As a fifth generation general contractor and carpenter, I bought the house with the intent to restore to it's original state to preserve a unique piece of Jerome and Arizona history.

Pictured along with myself (on right) is Neil Riordan(on left). Neil, now age 81 along with his brother John , now aged 86, who grew up in this house from 1931 until 1953. Click on the second link below to read the 2 page article in ARIZONA HIGHWAYS MAGAZINE about the families life and their escape when the mudslide struck the house while living inside.

Glenn Odegard purchased this house in 2012

Wow!! This place is amazing! Glenn did a historical rebuild with only a fraction of the original house remaining after a rock and mud slide that nearly totaled the house and occurred over 60 years ago! Little wall plaques have been used to note where the debris settled which gives the guests a feel for what had to be removed in order to being the construction. The rooms have been carefully redone making you feel like you have gone back in time except there are a number of modern conveniences . Some are "hidden" in the kitchen and of course there is Wi-Fi but don't plan on watching TV for there is none. What you'll want to watch is the stars in the night sky and the view from the amazing patio and porch area. If this doesn't leave you breathless and wishing that you could stay longer I'd be surprised! Thanks Glenn, you are a special individual with such a special talent!

It Was Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We, myself and two dear friends traveling together, loved our stay at the John Riordan house! It was an adventure just to get there, through the old town of Jerome, and then up and up the mountain with hairpin turns, but what a spectacular vista awaited us! The house was decorated and furnished in a quaint expression of the period, with pictures that told stories, and the story of the home renovation. We especially loved the view, from the porch that overlooked the town of Jerome and Cottonwood, sedona valley, and several layers of mountains. We spent until late at night on the porch enjoying the stars, and the full moon over the valley, and could hardly wait to get up early for the sunrise. Our only difficulty was figuring out how to get the refrigerator open----as it was within an "ice-box" cabinet, to reflect the period of the house. I finally called Glenn, the owner, who shared a laugh with us and gave me instructions as to how to open it (really, it was actually easy, but just a big mystery to us at the moment). We also held our breath, thinking we were suppose to cook on the big wood-burning stove of the period, that stood in the kitchen....but then we discovered the modern amenities in the kitchen drawers, like microwave, and electric fry pans, etc. Ahh, yes, we could do this! We were comfortable, slept well in the clean and comfortable beds, in awe, and peaceful....even enjoyed the "swing on top of the world" outside, the swing chairs on the porch and the little replica of the house in the tree.....it was everything and more, of what we hoped for! Thanks Glenn, what a wonderful home you've created out of the ruins, and are willing to share!
