Step back into 1898 with all the comforts of modern day conveniences. 2 bedroom, one bath, with 1200 square feet of wood deck and flagstone patio overlooking the center of the Town of Jerome and the entire Verde Valley. Easy (vertical) walking distance to the center of town shops, wineries, restaurants. Great year round weather and peaceful mountain air evenings. Stay in a house that is 118 years old buried in mud and abandoned for 60 years.
The John Riordan House is the highest rentable space available in Jerome. It is located directly above the center of town with fantastic views of the tourists and valley below. Please perform an internet search for much more complete information and interesting history on 'The John Riordan House, Jerome.'
A full two page story of the 81 and 86 year old Riordan brothers returning to their childhood home after it was buried for over 60 years was featured in the November's 2014 issue of Arizona Highways magazine. That story is on the link below "Owners Info" near the bottom of this page.
As a fifth generation general contractor and carpenter, I bought the house with the intent to restore to it's original state to preserve a unique piece of Jerome and Arizona history.
Pictured along with myself (on right) is Neil Riordan(on left). Neil, now age 81 along with his brother John , now aged 86, who grew up in this house from 1931 until 1953. Click on the second link below to read the 2 page article in ARIZONA HIGHWAYS MAGAZINE about the families life and their escape when the mudslide struck the house while living inside.
Glenn Odegard purchased this house in 2012
In town for Ashbrook at the Spirit Room. The Riordan house is everything as advertised. Amazing views, great 5 min walk to the city center and the home was charming. Only there 1 night but plan on being back for another on our next rendezvous to Jerome. Owner was great to deal with.
We took a group of 19 women to Jerome for a mini reunion and to partake of the Jerome Ghost Walk. We rented 4 properties to accommodate all of us and this house was the perfect gathering place for us because of the huge beautiful deck and breathtaking view.
It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. We enjoyed the historical pictures of the house's journey, but loved the modern bathroom and mix of modern and antiques which added to the cozy feel of the whole house.
The owner was incredibly easy to work with and did everything possible to make sure we were comfortable and accommodated. The road to the house is a little tricky, but added to general feel of our entire "spooky" weekend. :)
We would definitely rent again and we are already planning our trip for next year.
We loved our stay and look forward to staying again. Very comfortable and close to everything in Jerome. Thank you for the experience!
Cannot fault Glenn and this house in any way. It is perfectly located just a few minutes walk from the high street. The house is so beautifully restored. Glenn's communication with us was excellent from booking to departure. Next time we visit Jerome, this is definitely where we will return to stay!
I chose this rental to celebrate my 45th birthday with my closest friends, and it was wonderful. When we arrived we had fun just looking at all of the antiques and the special finishing touches on this restored property. The kitchen provided the most surprises. We spent the majority of our time outside, we grilled out for dinner and the wood deck and flagstone patio offer THE BEST views of town and the valley below. It rained for a little bit but we stayed outside because the porch is covered and there is lots of seating.
Everyone (6 adults) slept comfortably, and the pillows and linens were provided. I've already shared this property with family who want to escape the heat of Phoenix, and I'm looking forward to going again.
If you're not used to gravel roads, or narrow roads, that last turn up to the house is nerve-wracking but doable.
Thank you so much for making this wonderful property available to rent, it was a special treat. :)
We had an amazing time at this rental! If you're a history buff, this is the place for you. Antiques all around you as well as the story of the renovation of the house all over the walls. We truly felt as if we were back in time. I would say the patio was our favorite part. Several swings hang from the trees and patio tables and chairs everywhere. This was pretty much the highlight of the trip… Just sitting on the patio and enjoying the view of the city right below you. The town is probably a five minute walk and so convenient. I will be back to this rental whenever we stay in Jerome. Consider renting this… So much better than a bed-and-breakfast or a hotel and very private.
Jerome is a nationally Certified former Ghost and Historic town. The John Riordan House is easy walking distance to the center of town.
