Why Betsy and John Seno chose Southwest Michigan

We bought Little Blue when our 3 children were very young and drifting apart from one another. The lack of electronics, brought our children to rediscover nature and the fun they could have with each other. The adventures in the woods, discovering wildlife, board games and uninterrupted family time. The possibilities are endless with No WI_FI or internet.

Little Blue was cozy and very comfortable in a lovely wooded setting.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay in Little Blue. It was very clean and cozy. The beds were comfortable and the window air conditioner kept the place cool and decreased the August humidity. We enjoyed the back deck and spent a lot of time out there. The outdoor shower was a great addition as we all came home from the beach covered in sand!

The owners were very helpful when texted a question and left condiments and assorted things to make our stay more comfortable. Our favorite Lake Michigan beach- Pier Cove was just 10 minutes away- and was so warm we could swim every day.

We came home yesterday, today our 5 year old grandson was asking to go back. 😀

pleasant, cozy family cabin by beach

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay, very cozy and well loved place. Everything you need. Would definitely stay again. Nice neighborhood to walk in and small rocky beach but still fun to walk along and explore. Large selection of home movies and novels to read. My kids loved looking at all the little nooks and crannies in the place and had a great time (age 6 and 8). Very private with large double lot and well maintained. Nice deck and grill area too as well as bonfire area. Perfect vacation spot for casual family get away!

A spade is a spade

Stephen N. The reason you didn't receive your deposit back is due to damage done to the rear slider, not the screen. This cottage is checked prior to your arrival as well as your departure leaving no one responsible for damage except the renter. Combine the damage left, with the lack of cleanliness on the renters part requires the owner to pay more money as a result of your negligence.

I am the one who finds and reports the damage.

If you want your deposit returned, then you might want to be an ethical renter.

Normally don’t complain. My motto has been if I couldn’t provide a good review, not to review, but

Reviewer from August 1, 2015 is correct. The cottage is very dated and cluttered. Look very closely so you will know what you are getting for your money! The cottage itself is not well lit. There are a few lamps and not much overhead lighting. The porch has a lean to it as if the foundation has settled east to west. The water system in this development must be on some kind of independent water system as you could smell sulphur and iron. Suspect this cottage is not on a filtration system. The kitchen is functional at best. Bring your own water as the water from tap made coffee so bad, it reeked of rotten eggs. We had to clean the coffee maker itself, but that wasn’t a big issue. The bathroom is small. Shower adequate. The beach access had a yellow warning tape and signs which stated, “access at your own risk” and the ramp is damaged with a sign warning not to stand on it, which you have to in order to gain access to the beach. You will need to bring your hiking shoes as the beach access is a good hike. I didn’t mind the hike or the hill, but if you are not in physical shape to make that, you will not be happy. The beach itself is pretty small given that the lake has risen this year and is simply a small strip of six feet. Another couple that rented an actual beach house with stair access was forewarned by their property owner and they were provided a chance to cancel. Starting on Monday, the cottage next door underwent repairs, including sand blasting. That made for a lovely noise. While out of control by my property owner, this was unacceptable for a vacation. There is no Wi-Fi and the location of this development makes cell service very spotty. Just a warning on that. Other houses had Wi-Fi access. Electrical outlets are few. Now one of the few positives. The fire pit and side yard were lovely. It would have been nice to have had firewood. (We had to bring ours) The wood there was really just piled up brush and wet. I have leased cottages all over from Grand Haven to South Haven and have always been very careful and clean. I am a meticulous individual by nature. In fact, I have always received my security deposit back. Two days after we left, I was emailed by the owner making claims the back screen door was damage, etc. I asked for pictures/receipts of the alleged damage/repairs and never heard back. My entire security deposit was culled by this property owner. The screen door worked fine when we left. Be careful with this one.

Good location, however...

  • 4 of 5

There is no 5 minute walk to beach as that stairway is washed out. No fault of owners but would have been nice to know up front. Otherwise cottage is clean and well stocked. Coffee maker was yucky dirty but cleaned up with some effort and worked ok then. Needs water softener and washer/dryer. I know it's a cottage. Fortunately were able to return to our home and bring up additional towels to use. White bathing suit turned orange in shower causing teenage anguish. I lost keys at the beach and owner was available to help. Short drive to south haven or saugatuck. Overall would recommend but with above caveats.

Delightful cottage

  • 5 of 5

Little Blue is well furnished with everything you'd need for a visit to Lake Michigan. All amenities for a day at the beach or a walk in the woods. Walk to private beach access by steep steps or by a short drive to another access. Close to town where there are several restaurants and shops. Broad sandy public beach and marina in town. Good communication with owner. I'd recommend this property to family and friends who would like to get away for a quiet retreat or an active vacation.
