Large House that sleeps 12 with great access to the city.
This house was originally built in 1860. In 1900 the house was purchased and converted into a 2-family home to accommodate extended family. Today homes like this in Boston have been converted into apartments and condos. Retaining its original structure each room in this historic 2 address house has been renovated to offer all of the modern conveniences that make for a pleasant stay. House characteristics of that era like steep stairs and smaller room sizes could prove challenging for some visitors, but perfect for those looking to fully experience the history of Boston. This upper unit has 2,200 square feet of living space divided into 12 rooms consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, den/5th bedroom, porch, game room, large yard, outside BBQ with patio dining for 8 and off-street parking for 2 cars.
The house allows a maximum of 12 people. The standard sleeping configuration is to use the 4 bedrooms and the den as sleeping areas. However for added convenience and privacy the sleeping areas can be expanded during warm weather months into 8 distinct sleeping areas that include: 1) Master Bedroom queen size bed (with an EZ inflate twin in the closet), 2) Maple Bedroom full size bed, 3) White Bedroom full size bed, 4) Porch Bedroom full size bed, 5) Den full size and twin size sleeper couches, 6) Porch twin size bed (not heated so unusable Nov–Mar), 7) 3rd floor Loft twin size bed and 8) Game Room EZ inflate queen size bed (also not heated so unusable Nov–Mar).
Boston is America’s oldest city with the downtown area surrounded by 22 Boston neighborhoods. The property is situated in Boston’s “Brighton neighborhood”, which is the college neighborhood surrounded by Harvard to the North, Boston College to the South and Boston University to the East. This location is ideal as you are only 5 miles from downtown Boston and 200 yards from Brighton Center. Brighton Center is a quaint urban area with banks, a post office, library, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, pizza places, ice cream parlors and more. Enjoy a Pats or Sox game with locals in one of the Irish pubs, have lunch in a pleasant courtyard restaurant, or take an after dinner stroll for some ice cream. Brighton’s lively center offers an authentic taste of life in the Boston area. The house is also within walking distance from a United Church of Christ, Roman Catholic Church and a Jewish Synagogue.
Boston’s public transit system, “the T” includes: subway, trolley, bus, rail and ferry options. A 3 minute walk to the “T stop” allows you to quickly get anywhere in the city, while saving you the cost of staying at a downtown hotel. If you rent a car or use Uber, it’s a 1.5-mile drive to the Mass Pike (I-90) that gets you to downtown Boston in 15 minutes and then anywhere else in New England.

About Jeff Hazell
I grew up in this house that was purchased by my grandfather in 1900 and remains in our family to this day. I moved away from Boston to attend college and pursue a career in the Navy and I now reside in California with my family. I return to Boston every winter and summer to make improvements to the house with the aid of my general contractor. When I am away he serves as my local contact and on-site property manager. This house has two separate addresses; the lower unit is listed as 41 Dighton Street and is a year round rental. The vacation rental is 43 Dighton and all of the pictures and information provided is for this unit.

Why Jeff Hazell chose Oak Square
Boston offers world-class universities, a rich history, majestic rivers, harbors and parks, famous sport venues, a diverse culture, fantastic food and a truly unique atmosphere. Here are only a few of the things to do in Boston: • See a game at Fenway Park (or take a tour in the offseason) • Visit Harvard, MIT, BC, BU, Northeastern or the other great universities • Tour the city on a Duck Boat • See the Boston Marathon finish line • Ride the swan boats in the Public Gardens • Visit the Cheers Bar next to the Boston Common • Catch the Boston Pops orchestra on the Charles River • See Faneuil Hall and then browse the shops in Quincy Market • Explore the many Boston museums • Visit Trinity Church in Copley Square and then stop for lunch along Newbury Street • Walk the Freedom Trail and climb Bunker Hill • Visit the Boston Tea Party Museum and then tour Old Ironsides • See Paul Revere’s house and the Old North Church • Eat great Italian food in the North End or delicious Seafood on the Waterfront. As much as this great American city has to offer, it’s only the beginning. The rest of New England has tons to offer as well. Here are only a few of the things to do in New England: • Visit the fantastic beaches on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket • Head to Maine to have lobster along its rocky coast on the way to Acadia National Park • See Old Man Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire • Travel through rural Vermont on route to Montreal, Canada. • Visit the historic mansions of Newport, Rhode Island • Stop in the seaport village of Mystic, Connecticut. And if you have your sights set on more than just New England, you can always make the 200 mile drive to New York City. In short, you’ll never run out of things to do during your visit to Boston!
What makes this House unique
It’s very difficult to find a large home with a large yard and off street parking that is conveniently located in a very safe Boston Neighborhood close to Boston’s main attractions. The house is only 200 yards from Brighton Center’s shops, pubs and restaurants and just 5 miles from Downtown Boston.

Beautiful old home, lots of character
Had the pleasure of staying here during Spring Break (yep, the blizzard break!). The house is huge. Plenty of space for a large family. *Note: Prepare to walk up and down stairs.*
Cute neighborhood, in walking distance to CVS Pharmacy and some good pubs/restaurants. The Owner was very responsive to questions, and was even willing to work with us when our flight got cancelled due to the snowstorm.
Highly recommend this rental.
Great place to stay! Beautiful historic house. We had an awesome time visiting Boston!
Great for our needs, but some quirks
There were 7 of us on a business trip that needed a reasonable place to stay. This worked well (we are pretty close team) with lots of separate sleeping areas. The place is well appointed, easy to find, convenient to the bus route and has parking. The only strange part is that people who service the property for linens or other stuff kept coming in during the day when we were gone and would leave the house unlocked after the left - a little disconcerting in Boston, but it is a safe neighborhood.
I understand the concern and have instructed my team to leave a note on the front door if they need to make follow-up visit to the house to correct an item and the quest is not at the house when they ring the bell.
Great place - just as advertised
I've used VRBO/HomeAway dozens of times and Jeff's place ranks right near the top. Very easy process and the home was just as advertised. We walked to BC for a game as well as the nearby shops and restaurants. Getting to Fenway and downtown were short Uber rides.
The house itself is well maintained and easy to access. Located on the end of the street made it quiet and peaceful. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in traveling to Boston.
Home away from home
This is a great place to say. All you need and close to Boston just a short block to public transportation. Very clean. Owner called to be sure we were comfortable. Wifi available and all the comforts of home. This is a find 5 stars.
We loved spending time together but with private rooms to go to.
We loved the house and the proximity to all things Boston. Be prepared to walk some stairs and a gentle touch with the toaster is needed. The owner reached out to make sure everything was great. This was my first time doing VRBO (or related sites) and it could not have been a better experience! Thank you!
This is a 2 family house that is 200 yards from Brighton Center. Brighton Center is a village that has banks, pubs, restaurants, post office, grocery shopping, public transportation stops and everything you need within easy walking distance from the house.
