About the property

Charming 1948 newly remodeled cottage on small homestead. 2 BR, 1 Bath, Futon

Welcome to my homestead! Settle into this serene, natural paradise in the middle of a bustling city. Nowhere else will you find this level of tranquility hidden away in suburban Sarasota, just minutes from the city's beaches, attractions, restaurants and stores. The property is 10 minutes from Siesta Key beach and downtown, and just a few blocks from the nearest stores.

The newly remodeled guesthouse was built on Siesta Key in 1948 and moved by my father to its present location in the early 70s. Its permanent resting place is this beautiful homestead, nestled among age-old oaks, pine trees and lush Florida vegetation. This ecologically sound, nature-lover's paradise is also host to an organic garden and orchard, hens (farm-fresh eggs, anyone?), a lake and a small creek. The property, which is mostly wooded, is fenced in and gated for maximum privacy and security. Guests are free to roam, meditate and enjoy this unofficial natural reserve!

The house is cozy yet spacious and is a wonderful mix of antiques and all the modern conveniences. There is a sunroom, a fireplace and a huge screened-in porch with hammock. The bedroom and living room floors are the original hardwood. Behind the house, there is a deck with an outdoor grill and a pond with a waterfall surrounded by lush vegetation. Guests fall in love with this warm, charming cottage and its magical setting and are pleased with the well stocked, modern kitchen and other amenities.

There is a queen-size bed in one bedroom (mattress bought April 2015), a full in the other and a futon in the living room. The bathroom is comfortable, adequate and newly updated, but not large. Washer and dryer are full size. TV has built-in DVD. There is a carport (one car). There are two bicycles available upon request (one beach cruiser and one hybrid), two beach chairs and five beach towels.

IMPORTANT SALES TAX INFORMATION: You are required to pay the Hotel and Resort Tax, which is 12% (7% for Florida and 5% for Sarasota County). Florida law states that this must be clearly stated and not included in the rental price.

IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION: Preferred method of payment is by personal check or eCheck. Guests paying by credit card must reimburse me for credit card fees on the full amount (EXCEPT the $500 damage deposit) in cash at check-in time. Fees are as follows:

• 2.9% for Visa, MasterCard, Discover cards issued in the United States.

• 4.9% for Visa, MasterCard, Discover issued outside of the United States.

• eChecks (electronic checks) with free processing are available for domestic U.S.

banks only. Chargeback fee is $25 USD per chargeback. Guests cannot pay via

eChecks within 10 days of their arrival date.

Guests are free to roam the property, but please respect the privacy of the main house. The property is fenced in, but the lake, creek and pond are NOT enclosed, and there is an electric wire around the hen house.

Unless I'm with clients at my studio, I am usually available for questions. You will often find me tending to my gardens and property and are welcome to come chat!

About Kat Cosentino

I am passionate about nature, gardening, fitness, nutrition, traveling, languages, food, living off my land, mountains, hiking, writing, music...to name just a few of my “hobbies!”

My family has been in Sarasota since the 40s. I was born in Sarasota but lived over a decade of my adult life in Italy (Siena and the Alps). I own a private fitness studio where I offer one-on-one training sessions and nutritional coaching. I am certified in personal training, corrective exercise (including pain management), sports nutrition and peri- and post-menopausal fitness.

I moved from Italy to Sarasota a few years ago to take care of my parents. This magical property has been in my family since the 60s, when this area was mostly undeveloped. It is my oasis, my connection to my roots. I have an organic garden and orchard and 12 hens. I am an acknowledged “plant geek” and somewhat of an environmental, food and nutrition activist. I thrive on helping people make positive changes in their lives. I realize how lucky I am to live on this slice of paradise and am very excited about sharing it with others who appreciate it.

Kat Cosentino purchased this house in 1968

Why Kat Cosentino chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

My father brought this property in 1968. My earliest memory is being on the guesthouse porch when I was a kid and my grandmother lived there. I have many memories here, from childhood to more recent. It is my connection to my roots and my passion!

What makes this house unique

My property is my oasis. I am in the middle of nature, in the middle of the city. Could it get any better? :)

Oasis Within Stone's Throw of the City

  • 5 of 5

I needed a place to get away from everything and everyone, but I didn't want to drive for hours. This cabin was perfect. Quaint and cute, it's only a few minutes from downtown Sarasota, but you feel like you're in the everglades (without the swamp). I spent three days on the screened in porch, alternating between the hammock and the rocker. I read and gazed at the woodland and felt my stress ooze away. The owner, Kat, was sweet and accommodating. I'll definitely be back.

PS: Just so you know, you can see houses from two sides of the cabin, but they are behind fences and/or far enough away. From the porch and backyard you can't see them so it feels completely private.

Owner's Response: I was honored to offer a reprieve for Terri. From our first communication to the way she left the cottage, she was easy, kind and considerate. It was a pleasure to host her, and I would love for her to come back any time she desires!

Just the right place....

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is a great place to stay for relaxation and seclusion. The grounds are intriguing and reminiscent of old Florida. Everything you need is provided in the house and the porches are great places for gathering, reading or relaxing. My only regret is I did not have longer to stay.

Great long weekend in Sarasota

  • 5 of 5

We went to Sarasota to explore for possible retirement relocation. Kat's guest house was the perfect location. We were so relaxed in the mini paradise had trouble leaving to venture out. The house was so clean and full of personality. I wished we could have stayed longer. Kat was very welcoming and brought us fresh eggs from the resident hens. Highly recommend this cute little guest house.

Owner's Response: I loved hosting Lisa and her sister on the homestead! Lisa was so easy to communicate with from the beginning; I had a feeling it was going to be a great fit. It certainly was, and I was glad we got to have a nice conversation before they left. They left the cottage spotless. I hope they'll be back soon :)

A little slice of paradise hidden away in Sarasota

  • 5 of 5

The property was described perfectly in the listing. Kat is a very gracious host, offering friendly advice and recommendations about the homestead and the local area. it is conveniently located a short distance from the beaches and downtown Sarasota. The cottage is very homey, with plenty of room for a family. All in all, a very relaxing atmosphere. The fresh eggs were an added bonus.

Hidden Paradise, beach and jungle together!

  • 5 of 5

It is a piece of paradise which include, a cabin sensation, a beach air, and a jungle trail in the backyard. The Kat's offer of fresh eggs is so real, that we had our breakfast with those delicious eggs, and her welcome with a hug is a part of her paradise. There is nothing better like be treated like a friend. The house was very cleaned, the first thing we did was walking trough the trail which is unbelievable. The near beach is Siesta Key, what an amazing beach!!! And also it is near restaurants, supermarket, pharmacies, everything you need to have in just few minutes! Thank you Kat!!

Owner's Response: It was such a pleasure to host Haley and her family. She was so friendly and easy to communicate with from our first contact; I just knew they were a perfect fit. And - it's true - it felt like we were already friends when they got here! They left the house in tip-top shape, and I would love to have them back again :) Oh, and Haley brought me warm Venezuelan arepas the morning they left. What a treat!! Muchas gracias, Haley! Ha sido un verdadero placer y ustedes son bienvenidos cuando quieran!! :)

A Special Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This property is very special---an oasis of green near downtown Sarasota and the beautiful Siesta Beach. As birders, we loved the proximity to Myakka State Park and the Celery Fields, not to mention the good birding on the property itself. We also liked feeding Kat's chickens our fruit and vegetable scraps and enjoying the fresh eggs. There are 2 wonderful YMCA's a short drive from the property which offer racketball, pickleball, zumba, yoga and swimming indoors and out. Needless to say, we truly enjoyed our 6 weeks.

Owner's Response: I feel very fortunate that Dorothy and Chris chose my cottage for their stay. I loved having them as temporary neighbors, in part because they share my love and great appreciation for nature. They were kind, courteous and treated my cottage like their own. My doors are always open to them, and I hope we will continue to stay in touch :)
