Minimum Stay

About the property

Permit 2013-184.

The Highland Sage Guest House is located in historic downtown on a sunny corner lot. The home offers an open living and dining room, two bedrooms with queen beds, additional day beds, and historic character throughout. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped to make a multi-course meal or a simple smoothie. The bathroom includes a restored cast iron tub, and the home is cooled by a swamp cooler, providing for easeful sleep on hot Summer nights.

The backyard offers a patio open to 10th Street with a grill and family-size table. Adjacent to the courtyard is a historic garage providing off-street parking.

When you arrive, you will have a combination to enter the home. I live within a few blocks so will be available to help as much as needed or leave you in privacy per your preference.

In addition to downtown and Main Avenue, the Nature Trail leading to Fort Lewis Collage and panoramic views of Durango is one block away. The Highland Sage Guest House offers an ideal combination of proximity to downtown, historic character, spaciousness, and a front porch and courtyard both facing friendly neighborhood streets.

If you don't see that dates you are looking for please check both of my rentals in historic downtown.

About Victoria Schmitt

I moved to Durango in 2005 and work as a civil engineer for the local county. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio and have since lived in Arizona and Colorado, with some time spent in West Africa and Southeast Asia. In Durango I have been involved with the Durango Dharma Center and the Durango Independent Film Festival.

Outside of work and the vacation rental, I also enjoy biking, camping, reading, and hiking, especially with my 11-year old dogs, Neutron and Kozmo.

Private but perfect location to everything!

Victoria has done a great job decorating this adorable house! It's comfortable and has a ton of character. We walked to dinner every night and it was only a 20-25 min drive to Purg! Our pups loved it as well. We will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: I'm happy you enjoyed the proximity to Main. It is amazing that being so close to all the activity, it is still so quiet, especially with the snow. Thank you for staying, and look forward to you being back.

This is the second time we stayed here and the second time we had a great time. The house is in a perfect location just a few blocks north of Main St. with many restaurants, pubs and shops. It's an easy 25 minute drive to the ski area. Victoria was friendly and available to answer any questions we may have had. The house was clean comfortable and well stocked with all the conveniences. There was plenty of room for the five adults in our group. Behind the house is the garage to park your car, a great amenity!

Great house to stay in Durango

  • 5 of 5

It started difficult situation to check-in with accident, we ended to stay over another hotel the first night. The owner Victoria was very apologetic and did quick action for us and room was ready at the night but we drove 7 hours to get there and were so tired to move in to the house. I worried about refund because of some other VRBO's properties reviews. (NOT Highland Sage). But we received refund from Victoria right away at the night more than we needed for first night fee + hotel fee. When we moved in to the house next early morning, I regretted why we didn't I move in the night before. Highland Sage was beautiful, quiet, clean and relaxing. We enjoyed walking around neighbor, nature trail backs to the house also restaurants on the main street. My husband and our dog walked a lot everyday. The location was perfect also the house it self is super comfortable. Everything was functional than our real home. We stayed many VRBO houses but Highland Sage is the best for us so far. Victoria made sure us to be comfortable everyday. Thank you for your hospitality. We will stay longer next time.

Great house in a great location.

Victoria was so nice to deal with in arranging our stay at Highland Sage. Her house is spotless and furnished very comfortably. Nice linens, very nicely outfitted kitchen etc. After a day out, we always looked forward to coming "home." We had a couple of questions about the house and the owner responded very promptly with help. We stayed 5 days and highly recommend, and we would definitely stay here again if coming back to the area.
