Secluded and Tranquil Cabin in the Woods, On the Water in Downeast Maine.

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Cabin is 15 minute drive from the Schoodic Peninsula

Our cabin in the woods is on a gorgeous salt water tidal cove, about a 30 minute drive from Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It is also about a 15 minute drive from the Schoodic Peninsula. The cabin is wonderfully secluded--many locals don't know it is here, with no neighbors but deer and the occasional eagle flying overhead. It is a short drive to local lobster merchants, wonderful hiking and swimming in pristine lakes. Feel free to take our canoe out for a paddle in the cove, or head out at low tide so that you can do some clamming in the front of the property. At the end of the day, take a moment to sit by the wood burning stove. It is a great place to explore the limitless relaxation and recreational opportunities of Downeast and Acadia. We have 3 queen sized beds (two downstairs bedrooms and one convertible day bed upstairs). There is a child's bed (suitable up to a 10 year old) in one of the bedrooms. In a pinch, one of the couches can accommodate a sleeping adult.

Perfect home away from home for small family!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this quiet little cabin in the woods! It was comfortable, well equipped, and had a place for everyone to relax individually and to get together as a group. My 7 year old son loved the loft area, and my 16 year old son loved the canoe. I enjoyed the rockers on the front porch, and I was pleased with the cookware and serving items in the kitchen. My wife loved the quiet of being so remote; we could barely hear any traffic, so the cool nights let us sleep comfortably with the windows open. We love birdwatching, and were please to see a hummingbird feeder, suet feeder, and a seed feeder. We also made use of the washing machine and clothes dryer in the basement, making the trip home a little more comfortable. The owners were very accommodating with our schedule, and they squeezed us in perfectly to make our stay work out just right. This was our first trip to Maine, and the location between Mt. Desert Island and the Schoodic Peninsula was great; we spent most of our time in Acadia. There wasn't WiFi available, but the 4G signal was great when we needed to connect to the outside world; we wanted to disconnect from the world on this vacation, so we didn't use our 4G internet any more than necessary. Same with TV: there was no cable or satellite available but we didn't miss it at all (we don't have these at home either, so not a big deal for us). They did have a DVD player and small TV in the loft, which was all our 7 year old needed to keep him occupied for a few minutes while we fixed the meals. If we were ever to make it back to Maine, we would definitely try to stay here again!!!

Quiet, beautiful and secluded cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin! Very peaceful and clean with all the amenities we needed. Kids missed the wifi and cable TV but I loved that it wasn't available! We played games and watched movies in the evening. Our only complaint is the fact there is no garbage drop off. Traveling in itself has its challenge with garbage but add kids and it adds up quick! We trucked small bags each day to town looking for a place to drop like BK or gas station....very undesirable predicament to have to dispose of garbage in secret. We would rather see a slight increase in cost of rental to cover for this. Beautiful home located near Acadia, and we made wonderful memories while staying here and would definitely recommend!

The property was clean, homey and comfortable. The perfect location to visit Acadia and Bar Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

The log cabin was beautifully located down a dirt road, in a secluded area in the woods. The river outlet was a short walk down a small hill where people clammed daily. Only noises from nature could be heard. So relaxing!

The cabin was so inviting and such a warm welcome after a 5 1/2 hour drive from Massachusetts. It had a wrap around open porch complete with a grill, table to have breakfast, and comfortable rocking chairs. Bugs were not an issue in September. The overhang made it possible to enjoy the porch even on a rainy day.

The inside of the cabin looked as if it was just built. It was clean, warm, and cozy for two couples. As you entered the cabin to the right was a opened plan with a kitchen and living room, nicely decorated with a wood stove and well heated with a wall heater. The kitchen complete with dishwasher, full frig, stove, coffee maker, and toaster. A table set for 4 people finished off the kitchen.

To the far left were two bedrooms with queen size beds decorated nicely with homey quilts and very comfy.

Between the bedrooms and living room was a full bath and a spiral stairway that led up to a loft where there was a tv room.

During our four days there, we never watched the tv, but instead enjoyed playing cards every night. It was so nice to have conversations and a way to reconnect with our friends.

During the day we explored Acadia and the islands and Bar Harbor. The cabin was the perfect location to visit both of our destinations. The choices for food were endless and something for everyone. Our favorite upscale restaurant was the Iron Bound, down Route 1 minutes from the cabin. The owners left a notebook full of ideas for both food and things to do and see in the area, and things to know about the cabin, which was very helpful.

The four days we were there flew by. We were sad to leave, but left with such warm and beautiful memories.

Quiet & Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and my stay in "The little cabin in the woods," as we fondly referred to it, was perfect! The cabin is extremely well stocked and comfy-cozy; it is also immaculately kept. Most importantly, it is wonderfully secluded in a quiet and serene spot in the woods. It was so peaceful to enjoy our coffee on the deck every morning and read in the cabin at night, as the cool Maine breezes washed over you. We literally did not see or hear another soul the entire week we were there! The cabin is about a half hour drive to Acadia National Park, which we went to every day for some hiking and yummy eats/drinks in Bar Harbor. Finally, Andrew and Ellen were incredibly warm and responsive hosts from our initial reservation request through our final questions before we arrived. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a little cabin in the woods, with easy access to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, then this is the property for you. If we decide to travel to Maine again, we would *only* consider staying at this property.

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great! Had everything we needed to enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle and is centrally located to make exploring Maine's beauty easy and convenient. Andrew and Ellen were wonderful and along with many other amenities, provided a binder of things to do with comments and suggestions. Nothing better than sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs on a cool evening, going clamming when the tide was out or driving to the Bay of Fundy to see the tide rush out and of course there is Bar Harbor just a short drive away!
