|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
This waterfront family summer home is located at Seber Shores on Sandy Pond, a large bay off Lake Ontario in northern Oswego County, New York. Three bedrooms, large living room, two full baths, fully-equipped kitchen, screen porch, dock, good water, glorious sunsets, and the largest lawn on the Shore. A canoe and row boat are included for your enjoyment. The house is comfortably and attractively furnished, and includes a large-screen TV, DVD player, piano, and decent stereo; wi-fi and cable.
The master bedroom has a superb king-sized bed and its own (full) bath (with tub and shower). There are two other bedrooms, one with an excellent queen-sized bed and the other with twin beds. There’s a queen-sized pull-out couch in the living room for additional sleeping facilities (and the screen porch can accommodate those who prefer al fresco sleeping).
The cottage is convenient to three State Parks on Lake Ontario, with sandy beaches, and several golf courses. The Pond boasts good fishing for pike, bass and panfish (you can fish off the front lawn if you’d like), and of course Lake Ontario is famous for salmon, lake trout and brown trout. (No guarantees from the Management!) You’re only a few miles from the mouth of the Salmon River, known for (you guessed it!) salmon, and just a bit further north is Henderson Harbor, “home of the black bass.” (There are many licensed charter captains nearby to take you “big water” fishing.) The canoe and row boat are ideal for exploring “Little Sandy Creek,” the mouth of which is right out front. (The boat is an aluminum 12’ which will happily accommodate your outboard motor up to 25hp - the canoe is a fiberglass 16' .) You are also invited to bring your own boat. Smaller craft can live right at the dock, and several of the nearby marinas often can accommodate larger boats with short-term slip rentals. Sandy Pond is ideal for small-boat sailing, so if you have a sailboat be sure to bring it.
The nearby villages of Pulaski and Sandy Creek can supply all day-to-day shopping needs, and for more extensive “mall” shopping (and entertainments) Watertown is only about a half-hour away (either by I-81 or Route 3, known for decades as the “scenic highway”).
The cottage is available for rentals from May through October. Rentals are typically by the week. Summer rentals start and end on Sunday . Longer or shorter stays (3-night minimum) will happily be accommodated by special arrangement.
Built by current owners' family in the late 1950s, with several additions since then.
Neal Chamberlain purchased this cottage in 1955
Great place on north sandy had all the kitchen stuff needed, clean and 10mins to downtown Pulaski.We will be back next year, thanks Neal for letting us use your home it was great.
Spent a week at Chamberlain Cottage in the last week of September and really enjoyed it. Was looking for something serene and this was the perfect spot. The cottage has a very relaxing, homey feel to it. Though the immediate area/camp is not as isolated as I thought it would be, there is still plenty of space and privacy in both the front and back. Sitting in the plastic (but super comfy) chairs on the screened-in porch while looking out on the water is about as good as it gets for me; sat there with my Kindle and my dog laying down next to me, and the chilly breeze put us both right to sleep in no time. The sunrise/sunset view from the backyard is amazing.
If you're from a big city like me, you'll probably find the town very quaint and charming, but it still has everything you need to get you through the week, all within 10-15 minutes driving distance. We mostly spent our days at the beaches/state parks/wildlife areas close by (which were nearly empty this time of year). I had been looking forward to taking the canoe out on the lake right behind the house and fishing, but the water level in early Fall is apparently extremely low there at this time of year, and so we had to scrap that (it would have been possible but a bit of a hassle for a non-outdoorsman like myself) - there are still plenty of places nearby to do major fishing if that's your thing.
As far as cons go, if you're picky I guess you could say the following: The water pressure isn't great in certain places in the cottage (esp. kitchen sink and master bathroom toilet); the towels were a bit old-looking but clean; the microwave is super old school with a bit of a rust-ring under the rotating bottom. So long as you're not expecting the Hilton or used to your butler shining your appliances, you'll be fine.
The owner is very responsive to emails before your trip, usually responded to my emails within a couple of hours at most. And once you are in the cottage, the caretaker lives two houses down and is readily available and helpful when you need him. I would definitely recommend staying here - it was a five-hour drive each way for me, and it was totally worth it.
Our experience was great. We were met by the friendly caretaker who walked us through the property and explained the important details. Our family loved the screen porch, fire pit by the lake and 2 full baths!
This was one of our favorite places to stay so far! Something for everyone in the family to do. The views during meals were breathtaking from the screened in porch. My kids caught Bass, Sun fish and little Perch right from the yard. We brought up our kayaks and hung out on the pond while fishing and watching the sunset. We tried for Salmon on the Lake but they just didn't seem to be running yet. About 45 minutes away there is a drive in movie theater which made for a unforgettable first time experience for the kids. Plenty of room for everyone to find a quiet space to read or watch a video. When nighttime rolled upon us we sat out by the fire and watched shooting stars. The caretaker David Bently and his brother Brian couldn't have been any nicer and answered and questions you could have. Would love to stay again. Thank you Neal and Family for sharing your home with us and being patient with me and all my question since I was a first time user of homeaway.
This cottage was exactly as it was described. Although it was not luxurious, it was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a fun family week. Beautiful views, easy boat access, and friendly neighbors made this a relaxing vacation. It was just 10 minutes to grocery stores or restaurants in Pulaski. With 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and the large screened in porch, there was plenty of room for our family. If you like cottage living, this place is for you!
Excellent location for our family vacation with three young children. Home was very well kept and met all of our needs. Loved the big, shaded yard and access to swimming and canoe rides!! Screened in porch was a bonus. Would love to come back again.
