My grandfather built the house 'Eagle's Watch', that was designed by legendary architect Harry Gesner, so I take great pride in the home and take pleasure in others being able to enjoy such a marvelous location. I have been living in Malibu for 10 years, now with my husband and 3 children. My husband and I manage rental properties, we take pride in our properties and are responsive to any of our renters needs. Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between. All of our properties are fully furnished and have all the luxuries of home! We also have great local tips to help you make the best of your stay.
Katherine VandeVoort purchased this villa in 1971
Eagles Watch has become a famous Malibu landmark that is impossible to miss while driving along Pacific Coast Highway. Built by the late Orlando J. Aliberti and designed by the famous Architect Harry Gesner, both brilliant men with visionary thinking. Seen jetting out from the hillside, above La Costa beach, this house is often referred to as the 'boat House', the 'Viking House' or the 'Pagoda House', but Harry Gesner named the original built in 1955 'Eagle's Watch' due to the incredible 360 degree views of Malibu’s most jaw dropping canyons and seascapes. A cast bronze eagle sculpture is installed on the outer point of the property to commemorate the name of the house. Unlike the properties on the beachfront, Eagle’s Watch has the best panoramic view in Malibu from Santa Monica pier to Catalina to Malibu pier and Point Dume; the view in every direction is simply stunning.
Although the silhouette of the structure is initially most striking, this house is filled with unique design features. One theme throughout the home is the opulent use of rare granite and marble imported from Italy, covering some bathrooms from the floor to ceiling as well as being used in the large, gourmet kitchen and around the two fireplaces. Hardwood floors with decorative inlay work are used throughout the home. Another truly unique feature is the 180-foot incline private elevator or funicular. Also imported from Italy, this glass funicular gracefully takes you from street level to high above the rest of the homes where you are quietly isolated on the beautiful ridge-top.
The view from Eagle's watch is difficult to put in words, and even photos don't do it justice. Every room and every side of the house have panoramic views with no obstructions. The patios and lawn area that surround the house each have a special vantage point of Malibu. Glass railings along the front of the house assure that the ocean view is clear. A dramatic waterfall welcomes you as you exit the funicular and accents the back patio and outdoor cooking area. High ceilings and large windows maximize the views from inside the house.
The location of this home makes it highly desirable as well. It is 8 mile from Santa Monica, 3 miles to the large shopping area in Malibu, walking distance to the beach and a handful of delicious restaurants, and the Post Office is a block away as well. It's the perfect balance of serenity and civilization.
Malibu (/ˈmælɨbuː/) is an affluent beach city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,645. Signs around the city proclaim '27 miles of scenic beauty', referring to Malibu's original length of 27 miles (43 km) before the city was incorporated in 1991.

We absolutely loved the home! We will definitely be back. You and your husband were so accommodating and available for anything we needed and we really appreciated that.
All our best. Teri B
Our large family celebrated Christmas 2016 at Eagles Watch. From the breathtaking views, to hanging our stockings by the fire, singing songs and guitar playing, family dinner, to opening presents with the Pacific Ocean as our backdrop, this incredible house and its owners helped us create some new and everlasting family memories!
Our family stayed at Eagles' Watch the first week of November as we were in town for our son's wedding in Pacific Palisades. From the moment we rode the funicular with Katherine up to the home, we knew we were in for an amazing stay! The views are unreal, and you are able to see both sunrise and sunset from this spectacular home. At each turn, we were amazed with the beauty -- both inside the home and outside. The amount of space and the seclusion of the various rooms, bedrooms, patios, and yard areas is remarkable. It is nice to be above PCH and is so much more relaxing and quiet up on the hill. The lower level of the home has so much natural light and it's own separate kitchen. We enjoyed every minute of our time in this spectacular home! Rory and Katherine (and their three darling sons) are wonderful hosts!
We loved every second of our stay in this amazing Malibu house. The view was breathtaking and the house was super clean and comfortable. The Hot Tub was super nice and relaxing on the deck watching the sunset was a sight we will never forget.
We spent the last week at Eagles Watch with my extended family, for a family reunion of sorts. It was a great week, from the first moments coming into the house , to the amazing sunsets, to the sound of the ocean rolling in.
The house is an amazing piece of west coast architecture, with amazing natural light from both sides , seclusion, and the beds on different levels
Katherine and her husband are kind amazing people who went above and beyond to make sure everything was great. Thanks so much!
A few months ago I began my search for a perfect/unique girlfriends' getaway week in California. I reserved Eagle's Watch in Malibu with high hopes of being amazed at the architecture, location and views. My hopes came to fruition! This home is extraordinary in so many ways. The archecture is indeed superb. (Wow!) The location is ideal, whether you are interested in a simple stroll down the hill to Duke's or a cruise up/down PCH to your desired destination (Santa Monica/Santa Barbara, etc.). The view is phenomenal, nestled into the Malibu hills, offering perhaps the most breathtaking ocean backdrops one can imagine. My friends (x6) and I enjoyed countless, priceless moments soaking up the remarkable ambience at Eagle's Watch. Furthermore, Katherine was a fabulous host. She initially met us at the base of the tram (very cool, btw!) and spent much time & care in getting to know our interests during our stay in Malibu. In so doing she was able to highlight exquisite establishments to dine and beaches to recline. A remarkable individual & a remarkable home. I'll be back!
Best VIEW from any room in the house!!
Great OWNERS! Katherine and Rory were more than kind, accommodating and gracious hosts.

The views from every room, breakfast on the 2nd deck and the spacious rooms. Forgot to mention the HOT TUB!
(It was hot during our stay. We turned the heat off on the hot tub during the day -to cool off while sunning on the amazing lounge sofas on the front patio). They also loved being walking distance to the beach & a few miles from great shopping!
Everything was within in driving distance. Market within 2 miles.
Private parking for 2 cars.
AC and fans in every room! (Plus for my wife)
Kitchen filled with everything for cooking, baking and grilling. We cooked in most meals.
