Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Uptown/Carrollton

This Cozy Apt. Has 2 Separate Bedrooms, 1.5 Bath And A Well Appointed Kitchen.

This apartment is a lower unit in a fourplex near Freret St. The foyer serves as a small office, library and a place to sit and meditate or read one of the many books provided. There is a living room with a full-sized sleep sofa, two separate bedrooms, dining room, newly remodeled kitchen with granite counter tops, stainless steel refrigerator and new dishwasher. The two bathrooms are also newly remodeled. One bathroom is a full bath with shower and the rear is a half bath.

The first bedroom has a full-sized bed, chest and closet; and the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, chest and closet. Because this is a small apartment, 4 is the recommended number of adults.

Guests will have a kitchen with pots/pans, dishes and flatware for 8, coffee maker, blender, toaster oven, and waffle iron. There is an energy efficient washer and dryer for your use. The cabinets are stocked with condiments, salt/pepper, spices, sugar, honey, coffee and tea. Extra sheets, towels, and blankets also provided.

Freret Street is located Uptown and is dubbed the Freret Arts and Entertainment District. It is an area that is experiencing revitalization to bring it back to its former glory. The Freret Corridor is just 8 blocks long but can claim great restaurants, cafes, a bakery, unique bar and other local flavors. Every April, the Freret Street Festival blocks the street for food trucks, musicians and over 200 vendors. The first Saturday of each month, at the corner of Napoleon and Freret is the Freret Street Market. The market is divided into food, art and flea, and is a great place to explore, eat and enjoy the music. Eat too much? Stop in at Anytime Fitness, open 24/7. Explore BrottWork Design Studio to see custom art glass or Freret Clay Center nearby. From the apartment it is just 7 blocks to St. Charles Ave. which is a major parade route during Mardi Gras. The St. Charles streetcar takes you to downtown, the Convention Center, Harrah's Casino and the French Quarters. It's 2.5 miles from the Super Dome and just a 15 min. walk to Tulane and Loyola Universities. For Jazz Fest, the Fairgrounds are just 5.17 miles away by car. Or, take the street car to Audubon Park and catch the shuttle. Oshner/Baptist Hospital is a few blocks away.

A manager lives in one of the lower units and is available as needed. This is a quiet building. Guests are encouraged to enjoy themselves and party responsibly. If you are the type who would prefer to stay in the Quarters, then this is not the place for you. Come, enjoy the City. Hopefully this will be a place you will enjoy coming to at the end of the revelry.

The bus stop is at the corner. It is a 20-30 min. drive from the airport depending on traffic. Parking can be a problem. One off-street parking space is provided for our guests.

Currently only two of the apartments are rented. Guests are expected to respect the privacy and quiet atmosphere of the building. Party responsibly. Talk with me first about pets as they may be allowed. Smoking outside ONLY.

Before you book, PLEASE send me a message telling me about who you are, the purpose of your visit, and the guests who will be traveling with you. I appreciate knowing with whom I am communicating about the rental.

About Elaine Armour-Word

Years ago I made a promise to a friend. I told her I would come out of retirement and help her if she became a principal. Guess what? She did...and I did! In June 2014, I completed my 40th year of teaching (OMG). I now serve as the Computer Coordinator for grades 2nd - 5th grade students.

I was born and raised in New Orleans. Graduated from St. Mary's Academy when it was in the French Quarters (long, long time ago). Moved to Los Angeles, CA to attend college and now live in the Bay Area. But, I still call NOLA home and come every 2 - 3 months. My husband and I love to travel. We have sailed most of the caribbean islands with friends, traveled Europe, South America and Africa. Paris is my most favored city. Since we travel with friends, we always rent apartments and prefer that to staying in hotels. I have tried to incorporate all of the good things I like about traveling and staying in homes to the space I have created for you because I want my guests to be comfortable, feel cared about and satisfied when you leave my special get-away home.

I am an avid reader with a library of over 700 books, most of them hardbacks. I have placed a number of them on the bookcase for my guests to enjoy. In my spare time I crochet, make jewelry, garden and feed a host of friends. I am in the process of creating a vegetable/herb garden in the back yard for the continued good health of all. Guests will be able to pick whatever is growing in the garden at the time.

I love the theater and see a minimum of 3 shows per year, including a few operas. There is also a collection of music and movies for guests to enjoy.

My Life's Motto: I believe that no matter what, things are in divine order in the universe. There is no greater power than Love and appreciation. I give thanks for all blessings - those I have received in the past - those I have now, in the present - and those I will have in the future. Thank you for considering and/or booking. Ma maison est votre maison.

Why Elaine Armour-Word chose New Orleans

After Katrina the New Orleans Redevelopment Agency (NORA) set about restoring sections of the city to its previous glory. Freret Street is now being redeveloped with new streets and new businesses. It is the new up-and-coming 'hip' area of N.O. and in a few years will rival popular Oak Street. It is walking distance to St. Charles Ave and the streetcar line as well as Tulane and Loyola Universities. The streetcar line will take you through a scenic route directly to downtown, the French Quarters, and Harrah's Casino. It's also a short distance to the Super Dome.

What makes this apartment unique

Originally my husband and I, along with a few friends, thought about buying a place in Paris. We soon realized that was just a beautiful fantasy and wasn't going to happen. So, I have created my 'Paris' apartment here in my hometown - The Big Easy. It's a special place to me and it will be my pleasure to share it with others who love this city as much as I do.

We stayed her for Essence 2016 with another couple. Clean, quite and comfortable location. This place could comfortably sleep 6. The house manager was AWESOME and even provided welcome treats. I would stay here again without hesitation. This is my first home away from home stay and will travel no other way

Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay last week in the 2 bedroom unit. It was the perfect fit for our family of four. Elaine maintains the unit in perfect condition. It is comfortable, exceptionally clean and located in a great neighborhood. We felt very safe in the area and enjoyed walking to several of the surrounding restaurants. Elaine goes out of her way to see that your stay is carefree. She provides all of the essentials in the kitchen, including coffee and tea. When we are in the New Orleans area, we would love to stay here again.

Beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

There were 5 in my party and this home was perfect for us. The apartment is so cute and clean; also in a really great, quiet and safe neighborhood. Even sleeping on the sofa bed was very comfortable. Elaine was very nice and truly a pleasure to work it. I would recommend staying here.

Accurate listing information for this local neighborhood apartment

  • 4 of 5

When we first booked our reservation Elaine was prompt to answer any and all questions. We stayed here the first week of April and, besides beautiful weather, we found the apartment met our needs. We were two senior couples and weren't sure if the apartment would be big enough, especially the bedrooms, but it worked out fine. It was nice having access to a washer and dryer. The oversized shower with the rain head was great! And we can't say enough about the house manager, Doris. She was available to us any time day or night. As mentioned in the description of the house, parking can be an issue and if you bring your car and plan to drive a lot, parking can be difficult. Enjoyed our stay in a New Orleans neighborhood.

Perfect Apartment for a small group

  • 5 of 5

I traveled to NOLA with 2 good friends for a 3 day weekend. Booking this property and working with the owner was so easy. Everything we needed, including shampoo and body wash, were stocked in the apartment. There were 2 males and 1 female in our group and we fit very comfortably in the apartment. It was a great location, not a far car ride from anywhere. We took uber to get into the quarter and walked from the garden district back to the house. We would stay here again!
