Overview

About the property

This Cozy Apt. Has 2 Separate Bedrooms, 1.5 Bath And A Well Appointed Kitchen.

This apartment is a lower unit in a fourplex near Freret St. The foyer serves as a small office, library and a place to sit and meditate or read one of the many books provided. There is a living room with a full-sized sleep sofa, two separate bedrooms, dining room, newly remodeled kitchen with granite counter tops, stainless steel refrigerator and new dishwasher. The two bathrooms are also newly remodeled. One bathroom is a full bath with shower and the rear is a half bath.

THE SPACE

The first bedroom has a full-sized bed, chest and closet; and the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed, chest and closet. Because this is a small apartment, 4 is the recommended number of adults.

GUEST ACCESS

Guests will have a kitchen with pots/pans, dishes and flatware for 8, coffee maker, blender, toaster oven, and waffle iron. There is an energy efficient washer and dryer for your use. The cabinets are stocked with condiments, salt/pepper, spices, sugar, honey, coffee and tea. Extra sheets, towels, and blankets also provided.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Freret Street is located Uptown and is dubbed the Freret Arts and Entertainment District. It is an area that is experiencing revitalization to bring it back to its former glory. The Freret Corridor is just 8 blocks long but can claim great restaurants, cafes, a bakery, unique bar and other local flavors. Every April, the Freret Street Festival blocks the street for food trucks, musicians and over 200 vendors. The first Saturday of each month, at the corner of Napoleon and Freret is the Freret Street Market. The market is divided into food, art and flea, and is a great place to explore, eat and enjoy the music. Eat too much? Stop in at Anytime Fitness, open 24/7. Explore BrottWork Design Studio to see custom art glass or Freret Clay Center nearby. From the apartment it is just 7 blocks to St. Charles Ave. which is a major parade route during Mardi Gras. The St. Charles streetcar takes you to downtown, the Convention Center, Harrah's Casino and the French Quarters. It's 2.5 miles from the Super Dome and just a 15 min. walk to Tulane and Loyola Universities. For Jazz Fest, the Fairgrounds are just 5.17 miles away by car. Or, take the street car to Audubon Park and catch the shuttle. Oshner/Baptist Hospital is a few blocks away.

SECURITY

A manager lives in one of the lower units and is available as needed. This is a quiet building. Guests are encouraged to enjoy themselves and party responsibly. If you are the type who would prefer to stay in the Quarters, then this is not the place for you. Come, enjoy the City. Hopefully this will be a place you will enjoy coming to at the end of the revelry.

GETTING AROUND

The bus stop is at the corner. It is a 20-30 min. drive from the airport depending on traffic. Parking can be a problem. One off-street parking space is provided for our guests.

HOUSE RULES

Currently only two of the apartments are rented. Guests are expected to respect the privacy and quiet atmosphere of the building. Party responsibly. Talk with me first about pets as they may be allowed. Smoking outside ONLY.

COMMUNICATION:

Before you book, PLEASE send me a message telling me about who you are, the purpose of your visit, and the guests who will be traveling with you. I appreciate knowing with whom I am communicating about the rental.

About Elaine Armour-Word

Years ago I made a promise to a friend. I told her I would come out of retirement and help her if she became a principal. Guess what? She did...and I did! In June 2014, I completed my 40th year of teaching (OMG). I now serve as the Computer Coordinator for grades 2nd - 5th grade students.

I was born and raised in New Orleans. Graduated from St. Mary's Academy when it was in the French Quarters (long, long time ago). Moved to Los Angeles, CA to attend college and now live in the Bay Area. But, I still call NOLA home and come every 2 - 3 months. My husband and I love to travel. We have sailed most of the caribbean islands with friends, traveled Europe, South America and Africa. Paris is my most favored city. Since we travel with friends, we always rent apartments and prefer that to staying in hotels. I have tried to incorporate all of the good things I like about traveling and staying in homes to the space I have created for you because I want my guests to be comfortable, feel cared about and satisfied when you leave my special get-away home.

I am an avid reader with a library of over 700 books, most of them hardbacks. I have placed a number of them on the bookcase for my guests to enjoy. In my spare time I crochet, make jewelry, garden and feed a host of friends. I am in the process of creating a vegetable/herb garden in the back yard for the continued good health of all. Guests will be able to pick whatever is growing in the garden at the time.

I love the theater and see a minimum of 3 shows per year, including a few operas. There is also a collection of music and movies for guests to enjoy.

My Life's Motto: I believe that no matter what, things are in divine order in the universe. There is no greater power than Love and appreciation. I give thanks for all blessings - those I have received in the past - those I have now, in the present - and those I will have in the future. Thank you for considering and/or booking. Ma maison est votre maison.

Why Elaine Armour-Word chose Uptown

After Katrina the New Orleans Redevelopment Agency (NORA) set about restoring sections of the city to its previous glory. Freret Street is now being redeveloped with new streets and new businesses. It is the new up-and-coming 'hip' area of N.O. and in a few years will rival popular Oak Street. It is walking distance to St. Charles Ave and the streetcar line as well as Tulane and Loyola Universities. The streetcar line will take you through a scenic route directly to downtown, the French Quarters, and Harrah's Casino. It's also a short distance to the Super Dome.

What makes this apartment unique

Originally my husband and I, along with a few friends, thought about buying a place in Paris. We soon realized that was just a beautiful fantasy and wasn't going to happen. So, I have created my 'Paris' apartment here in my hometown - The Big Easy. It's a special place to me and it will be my pleasure to share it with others who love this city as much as I do.

Very comfortable in a nice setting. Visitors from Toronto

My wife and I stayed here with two teenage boys and found it the ideal set-up. The layout allows for lots of privacy, the neighborhood is close to good restaurants, and the kitchen has all the essentials. Elaine was very responsive to any questions. It is an easy walk to the St. Charles streetcar for access to the city. We would definitely stay here again.

A great place to call home for a weekend NOLA visit

  • 4 of 5

A very convenient place to stay regardless of where you wanted to go for any attractions throughout the city. All things were as advertised, with many places to eat and explore within easy walking distance from the site. We were unable to contact the attendant when we arrived or upon our departure but Elaine's comprehensive instructions allowed easy access to the site even without the attendant. It was our first experience with VRBO and due to it we are very likely to try it again in the future.

Great Place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I had to leave early due to a family emergency, but I hope my housemates followed all of the rules and left your home in great shape. It was wonderful, much larger than anticipated and the space between the two bedrooms allowed for much needed privacy. Perfect for 2 couples, great neighborhood, truly enjoyed our stay.

Very satisfactory

  • 4 of 5

The apartment gave us more room than we expected, with great separation of bedrooms. Kitchen was very nice. Good beds. Very clean. Neighborhood was fine and borders some pretty elegant areas. Could have walked to St Charles Ave streetcar but actually drove and easily found unrestricted parking a block or two from the Robert St stop.

So glad we found this little jewel for our stay. It was clean, comfortable and within walking distance of some great eateries! Parking wasn't a problem. We hope to get to use it again as our granddaughter signed to run track for loyola! !

More than promised!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place for me to stay with my parents! The location is very convenient, and it was fabulous to have parking, coffee and some fun restaurants right there. The place is everything that was promised and more- great furnishings and decor, comfortable, and loved the extra touches and recommendations. Check in super easy and communication was great. We walked a lot to Magazine St and Tulane area, and took Lynx when going anywhere driving distance, which was really convenient. Can't recommend enough, and plan to stay again my next trip to NOLA!
